I think it's difficult for us to say as fans. I like the limited action we saw him in, but there wasn't enough to really tell. I think the Dolphins will draft someone like Swope or Denard Robinson to at least compete for that spot.
it certainly could be him. He has upside and size. He's fast. I think this will be a pretty pass heavy offense so the ball is in his court.
Definitely....coach Philbin's philosophy is to get WRs that can run a full route tree and be interchangeable. That is why Austin was nothing but a pipe-dream for so many fans on this site. Rishard fits the bill, he is a tough SOB and was definitely underutilized in his rookie season...so is the life of a 7th round draft pick, but is the real deal.
I've heard that they love him as well, and it makes some sense. They are clearly looking for a playmaker that can make plays in open space. That's what intrigued them so much about Austin. Robinson is not Austin, but the assumption is that's what he can bring to the table. I'm intrigued by Robinson and would not mind it if he were taken. I'd love to see them double up though and go for a complete WR in the Patton/Swope/Wilson mold though regardless.
I am guessing the team likes Robinson much like Green Bay liked Cobb coming out of college. If you look at the Green Bay roster there are no players like Bess. All the receivers are about the same size with the exception of Nelson, who is bit bigger. I expect the Dolphins to focus on guys about 5-11 to 6-2, who can run the full route tree. Interesting enough, Swope is actually a big kid, bigger than most think.
I would love to take best available players. Some good defensive ends still available and not necessarily a need right now. Same for wrs.
in his Day 2 press conference when asked about the receivers and the bess trade, ireland said something like "we like the players we have, mike, brian, brandon and rishard", so maybe they really like matthews as a #4, still would like to get a guy like patton or swope
