I just hope this is a good move and not another Wayne going after the biggest name out there even if they are past there prime or in over there heads. He has a record of doing that. Jimmy Johnson Dan Marino Nick Saban Bill Parcells
jimmy johnson wasn't that bad, he just wasn't anything spectacular. not to mention i don't consider any of those guys on the same level as the tuna
yeah but Tuna is also the biggest name out there that wayne can get right now. Him and Cowher. and I don't think he can offer Bill a job until the season is over since Cam is still the coach. however, this quote lets you know that Head coaching job is Bills call, and we can see what Tuna thinks next year needs.
Also, Parcells is not going to be the coach like JJ and Saban. He can focus everything on scouting/development and personnel without having to worry about the games themselves. I wouldnt want Tuna coaching, but the guy does have a track record in terms of building and personnel thats pretty solid. If he can get us some players, thats not a bad thing. Also, it might be an attraction to potential FAs, that we arent a doghouse team content to sit on our butts, but go out there and get someone whos got a good record.
These posts are so far off base. Jimmy Johnson was neither "past his prime" nor "over his head". This was a no brainer hire that had NFL circles convinced Miami would be headed to down the road to a championship. Jimmy had won at every level he's coached. No one could have known, NO ONE, that Jimmy would lose his fire to coach after his father died. Hardly a reach hire. Nick Saban was a coach VERY well respected in NFL circles and a coach other teams had already made a run at in the past. You were hard pressed to hear anyone knock that hire and again many mentioned that Miami was well on their way to championship football again with that hire. Once again, no one, NO ONE, could have forseen Saban getting what he claimed was his dream NFL scenario only to see him tuck his tail and run being intimidated by the NFL game. Yet again, not a reach hire by any means. The result of Bill Parcels is yet to be seen but you can certainly make a very good argument that Parcels could in fact do a great job here and that it's a hire that has a good chance of working wonders. Wayne wanted the "name" because of what that "name" has accomplished in the NFL. Would you like him to hire someone out of a AAA High School program that has no name?
Not interesting, but telling. Is it me or did this win make it seem like the pendulum has swung. There is a different attitude in the organization now for some reason. Or is it just me?
Here you are right to a point. He has a track record for getting solid teams for him to coach. I wonder how good he will do finding talent for another coach to coach.
thats the thing neither he or wayne has laid out his responsibilities to the organization...we know he is not manning the side lines and thats about it...everything else is blured in the sand....now is he the TALENT evaluator if so he is the GM... and in terms of finding the talent he will get a coach that will walk and talk in his image..all the more reason why cam is done
You are right. That is the most intriguing part of the article. Now, I am interested to see what else might be in store. Personally, I think we should stop practicing so much in that damn bubble.
IMHO, Jimmy gave up 1 year too soon... Had he stuck around for 1 more year, I believe that our 11-5 record in 2000 would have be 13-3 or better and a SB appearance...
Well, with the tuna, you'll make the team better or you won't be here, is as simple as that....he's not here to be the most popular guy, he's here to win. Ozzy rules!!
Look at how much the discussion between both men centered around buzz words like "talent evaluation" and "talent acquisition" etc. I'm sorry, but I just don't see how anyone sees Cameron and not Mueller as the guy being on the frying pan here. All the writing is on the wall, Mueller is either on the outs, or he's going to have to come to grips with working for a guy that that will overrule him on a lot of personnel decisions. Everything they keep talking about seems to be about personnel.
CK has a point...but keep on mind that you have to start with the personel and once you get that then you have to coach those players.....I think Muller could be gone but Cam could be going too, hard to tell at this point. Not saying I want Cam to go but is posible that Bill will bring his own coach. Ozzy rules!!
This is where Tuna scares me, are there problems with the Dolphins?... Yes Are there so much problem that you need to say, "I have a lot of work to do in Miami"...I do not think so. That is what scares me about Parcells, he might try to gut this team (In so doing allowing what could take 1-2 year wait to be back in the playoffs, to maybe 3-4 years, and if that falls apart, bye bye Bill. This team last year with pretty much the same talent, beat the Bear bad, and shutout the Pats, give that team just two things (A better QB, and a Commited HC), Miami is in the playoffs, but now after all the injuries, a rookie HC, Miami is so bad that there is a lot of work to be done. I just hope Bill is actually coming to help the Miami Dolphins, and not Bill Parcells yet again.
The next few month are going to tell us what we are in for, if Parcells decides to clean house, that should tell you who he's here for.
