Of course a defense can take away one guy, maybe two. But to suggest that team defense is holding four separate guys way below their averages, without taking into account that those guys have beens truggling the entire post season is silly. You can credit the Pacers without making it seem like they're the '89 Pistons. Allen, Battier, Wade and Bosh have gotten plenty of good looks that they haven't knocked down. Mike Miller got the same looks that allen had been getting and he made the shots.
Good looks for Miami's shooters are corner 3s. They aren't getting corner 3s. They're taking 3s from the worst spots on the floor. Good looks for Chris Bosh are mid-range jumpers. He's taking outside jumpers. Wade is really the only one getting looks he's used to, but missing.
Wade has Gatorade and Nike deals. That's why he's the focus of the narrative. Nobody on Indy has an endorsement with an ESPN sponsor. I agree Vogel's coaching and Indy's D are not getting enough credit.
Tonight is must watch, until now I have caught bits and pieces..... I feel something special coming tonight...from somebody....not saying who because I dont know...... From the Heat it would most likely be Bron cause the way the others are playing, from Indy it will be somebody as well because to knock off the Heat in their house is going to take something special too...
Because it's a lot easier to throw out narratives than actual basketball analysis. Sent from my phone using Fapatalk 2
Well, I don't think you'll get much of an audience if the narrative is the intricacies of team-defense. Any way you look at it, LeBron's move to Miami has taken the NBA's popularity to another level. He is single-handedly driving a billion dollar business right now.
Just to illustrate the quality of shots Miami is taking, here is Ray Allen's shot chart for this season: Now go look at Ray Allen's shot charts from this series. Most of his shots are coming from the right-corner or the left-wing, the two areas he shoots the worst from.
Really looking forward to the game tonight. Hope it's as good as games 1, 2, and 4 (I believe those were the closest ones iirc).
Jason Kidd retired. Great career. As importantly...sign and trades back in play for the Knicks since not all of his salary was guaranteed. This will drop them below the salary cap tax apron which if youre over, you basically cant do anything as far as sign and trades go.
It won't be. This game is shaping up to be a Heat 15 point win. Love the ref crew as well. A Benign crew, unlike that Tony Brothers or Joey Crawford abortion.
I am not a big NBA fan anymore, and idk who the bald guy on ESPN right now saying Miami is not a great team, but that guy is an idiot. Miami is not a great team? Best record in the NBA and 3 years potentially in the NBA Finals. How does that guy have a job. I am not even a heat fan
Prediction: Heat 96 Pacers 89 Wishful prediction: They both lose, eliminate each other, spurs declared default champs because two of the teams I hate most are gone. Awesome.
Deeeeaad giveaway.... Mario Chalmers got big testicles, cause we see this dude everyday (everyday), We eat ribs with this dude, but we didn't have a clue, We begged coach to take him out, after another ticky tack foul... Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk HD
I am nowhere near this confident. A 1 point win seems like fantasy right now. But, ESPN treats the Heat like the Yankees! Why not? Has anyone actually tried it?
I'm expecting the same. I think it might be over somewhere in the middle of the 3rd QTR. But it would not shock me at all to see the Pacers win a close one at the end, a la Orlando @ Boston a few years back (game 7 ECF) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There are plenty of people that write about this stuff. Zach Lowe has a pretty insightful article today, for example. A lot of it requires a certain level of understanding that the majority of target audience doesn't have. Those people are drawn to the soap opera more than the game itself. I mean my mom is excited for the game tonight, but she doesn't even really understand the bonus rule.
Let me know when Zach Lowe gets a 30 minute show on ESPN every weekday. Posting on Grantland is not in any way an attempt at reaching a mass audience.
With Grant and Kidd now retired that only leaves Vince Carter as the only player left in the "He still plays?" Category.
You have it backwards. His placement is defined by his ratings. They don't put guys on TV for 30 minutes unless they've proven to draw ratings. Lowe's ratings will define where they put his work. And Grantland actually does decent numbers.
I have it forwards: a concept must be tried before it can be declared to be successful or unsuccessful.
Yeah, the concept is being tried. He will advance based on his merits. This is true for almost any free enterprise.
Someone said on the Jim Rome show today that he thinks when Lebron looks at Dwayne Wade this year, he sees Larry Hughes. I think he is right. Lebron?? Score 50 and send those hicks back home. #fallinginlovewith23alloveragain.
Anyone who thinks Wade is anything like Hughes only started watching the Heat play 3 weeks ago and missed Wade having one of his best seasons ever. Although anyone who listens to Jim Rome isn't somebody too swift
I don't dislike Wade, but it's obvious he is playing poorly. Yep people who listen to Jim Rome aren't swift, clever. Also let me clarify I think he meant lately Lebron sees Larry Hughes, can't be sure though...I don't know the guy.
We have a healthy Rasheed Wallace and we beat Indiana. He's everything we were missing in that series.
