Most people at camp were saying good things about him...

But if you want to continue to re-write history to support your Omar Kelly bashing, then go ahead.

Coaches too. I don't see how Omar could really get much criticism for Naanee. The guy played great in camp. Omar just reported that.

It's not money. The roster spot is more valuable than the salary cap number.

I didn't follow that nonsense much, but didn't Omar stick with the Nanee camp when everyone else jumped off? I think that's where the criticism really lays.

not sure where you stand but if I know I have a full time returner who is in the top 5 of both averages, can play on special teams coverage unit, and a lil running back, I don't see the reasoning on why a coach would not want that as a roster spot, is there a scenario I'm not seeing when you have a top returner that you would release in favor of something else?

Right, but they are trying to see if they can get similar ST production from another player, so they can have roster space for a player that can contribute in other places besides just STs. They may very well stick with him, but now is the time to see if they have to.

I get that, I'm just not sure it's the right strategy with a top 5 returner coming off his first year, now, I'm all about always looking to upgrade that position with a special player, ( wanted to make a move preseason on trindon Holliday) but putting hartline or grimes back there for punts instead of meshing the unit as is, I'm not sure, but it's the OTA's, time to experiment right Fin, I mean you know all about that college experimenting stuff?

Nope. But let's not pretend it's what we want to be hearing. Tanny wasn't great in the first OTA day too, IIRC.

Is Sherm throwing an expanded set of plays at him now? Is it chemistry with the new receivers and TE?

Whatever it is, it's very very early in the process.

    VERY early....

I listed Clay as a bubble player this training camp if he doesn't make good on his potential on the field at long last.

This coaching staff inherited him, and will not be patient forever. He has the ability to be great, but it just hasn't translated to consistent production (yet).

Clay or Lane goes, depending on preseason.

Starks played outside in a 3-4 front for us. Now we play a 4 front and as you say, I think he's too big for DE in that look.

    Odrick is too, imo.

I hate the idea of Odrick getting snaps at DE.

    Agree.

He really over-emphasized that Coyle has his own way he wants CBs to play and that it's a big transition for him to do that. I got the sense he either doesn;t like the technique he is being asked to play, or is just worried/frustrated that it's not coming easily to him. Seems like a guy who doesn't know if he'll make the team... even talked about 'they' and 'them' on defense and figuring our what 'they' do so "I" can fit in. Feeling like an outsider, not saying "we" at all. And the morose body language, expression and lack of eye contact.

Maybe just a tough day for him. Or maybe it was a personally tough day off the field.

Either way, I figure one of Marshall or Patterson stay and Marshall seems to be getting the nod over Patterson.

    Odrick at DT.... YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

Clear the way for some Dion Jordan action at DE... rotated in with some other chumps on run downs.

I think CK once said something in the 4-4.5mil was fair for a fgood #3 CB given what a passing league this is and how often they are on the field.

Don't quote me on that, though, I may be mis-remembering what he said.

At one time that was the going price. What we saw this off season was either a temporary (cyclical) blip in the radar due to the unbelievable glut of supply (as I pointed out, something like 26 or 27% of ALL corner snaps in 2012 were put on the market this off season), or perhaps it was more indicative of a longer term, secular trend (e.g. "In today's passing league, corners just aren't as valuable or difference-making anymore"). Either way, the corner market was re-priced this off season. Of that, I think there is very little doubt. We can argue about why it happened, but it definitely happened. Prices that had previously been the norm for good #3 corners became the norm for #2 corners.

What about his arms? Nice looking set of guns IMO. I didn't see anything negative about his body language. Anyone who does is reading too much into it, IMO. Informative interview from my perspective. I'm rooting for Dimitri and Marshall both. They have both gotten too many unwarranted negative comments on this forum in the past few months. I'd like to see them both shut up the naysayers.

Regardless of Omar, this coaching staff made him a starter, what does that imply other than he practiced better than the other guys. BTW, hating on Omar seems counterproductive and childish...he has his opinions, you have yours, personally, I prefer reading from someone who's actually present for OTC, minicamp and TC.

I think David Canter promised that Legedu Naanee would end up a starter for Miami, when he signed. I don't know how he ended up right, but he ended up right. And that's not a good thing.

Omar is only a target for the Naanee thing because he was so effusive in his praise, and also because he makes it a point whenever he can to let everyone know how much more he knows about all this stuff than everyone else, etc. I'd counsel him to down it down but then, I'm not sure it's within his job description to tone it down. And thus, the hate continues, as do the hits.

Dunno but as you say, "ME LIKEY!"

    Possibilities:

    a) they want him to get some work at DT, as they will play him there more snaps than they did last year, but he will still play snaps at DE in on 1st and 2nd and short and they figure he doesn't need a lot of work there because he has it 'down' already. Pros: Begins to groom Oddie as Starks replacement after this season, and makes way for more snaps for better pass rush from the DE spot. Cons: Who will take those DE snaps? Dion Jordan surely gets a a chunk of pass rush snaps there on 3rd and long or 2nd and very long downs. Does Olivier Vernon take some of the run-down snaps from Odrick? Not sure that's a great improvement as Vernon will get washed out in the run way more than Oddie did. Odrick was very high on tackles for a loss (just behind Wake, I think). So we lose some run D if we dedicate Oddie to the inside. Do we try to rotate Odrick on 1st, Vernon on 2nd and Jordan on 3rd? That's just silly and too much switching.

As much as I do not want to see Jared Odrick at end, and feel he will be more impactful rotating inside at DT, who exactly will take up those run-down snaps at DE and provide similar effectiveness v the run?

That jibes with what Rafael's been saying the past six to nine months; that CBs are not a premium impact position, by and large, in today's NFL. He argued that's why you probably don;t want to take a cornerback high in the 1st round.

Regardless of position, I think wake Starks and Odrick get the most snaps this year for the DL.

I think most defensive subs will be with Olb/de and DB

I like what Vern does on the end against the run..he's very strong Bk, has that serious man body already, keeps his eyes up and his blocker at arms length..contains the edge really well, forces that sh&$ inside all the time, sometimes does it with one arm..we're gonna have some depth no matter how we look at it.

Vernon is just as proficient at RE (run defense) as Odrick. He was already a slightly better pass rusher than Odrick. Perhaps this year he improves so that it's an upgrade. It's a nice rotation, it's good to see them making moves in a strong attempt at increasing pressure on the QB.

yeah that was my point about his arms, if you just look at richard marshalls interview from yesterday also with jessie agler at the finsiders studio, its just totally different imo, he sits towards agler, looking at him when he speaks , i mean don't get me wrong i'm also excited for patterson to make this team, because he really looked good with very limited practice at the end of last year, but he just looks not happy to me for whatever reason, maybe he was just pissed to have to sit there and give an interview right after practice
