This is true. But, the Dolphins could really use him this year. We don't have a decade with him and Wake. With Wake in his 30's there is no telling when his body slows him down.

Another interesting tidbit to this is the interview with Dmitri Patterson from yesterday. When asked what WR's he thought were doing well, he said they were all competing well but that Binns was one of the ones that stuck out to him.

I think it will be important for the 3-4-5 guys to step up if we are to really have a consistently effective passing attack.

When you look at teams like the Packers, those that can go 4 deep at WR and be effective with every one of them - are ones that put a lot of pressure on the Ds.

Absolutely, you want this defense to press him as hard as possible..if our defense is very good, it will make it easier come real bullets from inferior opponents.

I like hearing Jeff fuller is having a good minicamp...I swear man, if that dude could learn how to block in line a bit, I would be tempted to have him gain 20..he is so gifted down the seam.

Yesterday it was Brian Tyms, today it's Binns, tomorrow it will be someone else. But I guess it's encouraging compared to last year, when everything was about all the receivers dropping passes.

I had no idea we are this close to signing leach, I thought when we claimed Rodriguez that was over..seems like an odd fit, unless this offense is going in a direction that not many thought...balance..which I'm a big fan of..

Time to do some diggin on this Kyle miller cat...

Kevin Coyle shedding some light on the Jared Odrick at DT deal. Paraphrasing here:

Says he's shown he can play a 3 technique very well. Says he's very versatile and can play DT AND you can move him back out to DE in a 5 technique. Says he'll play a number of roles (I'm guessing he means DE, 3 technique, and interior nickel stuff). Coyle also said he's been very pleased with Vaughn Martin's ability to play inside at DT and outside at DE as well. Coyle says Miami will be multiple in coverages - man, zone, combo, press - all will be played.

So, I think despite Odrick getting reps at DT, it's safe to say he'll also be playing the 5 technique DE spot he played a year ago. It sounds like Vaughn Martin will be doing that as well.

One quote that Coyle gave was, "On paper it might not look like it numbers-wise, but I think our depth is better than a year ago." That was him responding to a question about DEs. Said he likes that he has a lot of guys that can play different roles outside and give different looks.

So, I'll stand by it, my prediction is that Odrick, Soliai, Starks, and Wake are Miami's starting front four come week 1 barring injury.

DJ, they asked about Dion Jordan. Coyle said that he's not been here, but they're very excited to work with him. Secretive. He did say earlier in the interview in a general question that he thought the team improved the pass-rush "...through the draft..." though.

I would be excited too if I was him, your getting a special athlete, and sometimes special athletes can fail in this sport, and that's because their athleticism is not condusive to the sport, Dion Jordan has graceful natural position specific football movement .when you combine those two things, you could have a groundbreaking player..

You hear Philbin all the time apoligize for continuing to describe certain players that he likes, he describes them as a player "who moves like a football player"....well, wait til they get a load of this freak.

I think the thing about Jared Odrick is that he got asked to play wider than a 5-technique, and that's where the problem/perceived problem came about. I wonder if him not mentioning it suggests that the duties are going to be split a little more with Odrick playing 5 and inside and Vernon outside of that.

Certainly could be the case. One of the reporters in the press conference did ask a question about Olivier Vernon getting a lot of looks at DE with the first team unit, so you might be very well on point there. Vaughn Martin I know was a 3-4 DE in San Diego, but hearing Coyle mention him was slightly surprising. Maybe it shouldn't have been but, to me, it was. I wonder if they'd consider putting him there to offers some looks like Seattle does with Red Bryant. They run a lot of Bear fronts.

Odrick getting looks at 3 technique as well will help spell Randy Starks. I know he and Odrick both got a lot of nickel snaps. I think the more rotational their reps get, the fresher it might keep them.

Plus I also think you want your qb experimenting in Mini Camp. He learns his limits in practice and learns what chances he can take and which ones he can't when there is no penalties. The number of new chances a QB is a making in games should be minimal because he takes so many chances in practice.

Signed as an UDFA with the Jaguars two years ago and was cut before the season began. Took a head coaching job at a High School in Ohio but had to resign before he coached even a practice when the Colts signed him last year. Colts cut him in November 2012 and we picked him up off the waiver wire. Nice size on the guy at 6' 5" and 260 Lbs. and he also was the long snapper at Mount Union.

Lol, that's not what I meant when I said that, is missing three days going to affect that during the whole offseason?, why can't he be allowed to study his profession to further his career, why must a rule literally keep him behind the curve?

Have to agree... Highly doubt a 3 day camp will keep him from getting his degree. Some concessions should be made at least.

In a quarter system, this week is traditionally finals week. So, yes, it is likely that a three day absence would have a large effect on his classes this quarter.

He'll start training camp right off because this quarter/graduation is ending around now. For what it's worth, I don't think the rule should keep them from attending rookie mini-camps in May/ middle of the quarter. For instance, them missing 2-3 days is no different than me flying to a job interview and making up two days of classes. However, missing finals would be pretty rough and I think if the rule weren't in place, most recently drafted players would get pressured by coaches into skipping finals to attend mini-camps.

The easiest thing to do would be to give players who know they're declaring for the draft the option to accelerate their classes in the last semester so they can finish earlier and not miss any time.

Jordan's length and natural athletic ability will make up for the mandatory missing time.

The reality is Jordan is going to be hurt this season by not being in the mini camps and learning his position(s). He will pretty much come to camp "cold" and will also likely be a late addition as the Dolphins will negotiate hard. I think he will be struggling to be a big factor in the starting lineup or get on the field much early in the seasons (in fact, early in the season, I think it will be Misi at OLB and either Odrick or Vernon as the starting DE).

So, that is a significant frustration. The good thing is we have an extra week because of the HOF game. But, if this kid does not have a Ray Lewis type work ethic - if he is not at the facility 16-18 hours a day all through the pre-season to make up for lost time - then it will be harder for him to crack the lineup and frankly, it will be a bit of a disappointment.

But, I do think if a player is a first round selection - given the amount of money in their first contract - I think the league should make some exceptions. Esp. since - with 4 year contracts - that first year is crucial for the team to get their money's worth out of a player. And usually schools and profs can/will make exceptions about timing of certain papers/tests.

I do get the rule, however. It is to protect the player. If you have a kid who is a 6th round pick and marginal to make the team, and the team says, "We'd like you to be here" and he opts to stay in school to finish his degree because he has papers/tests/etc. then the team may look at him differently. Or, if the player is given the option - he will definitely forego school in order to be on the field every single time. It puts too much pressure on a player to get into practice and sacrifice his schooling - esp. since not a lot of those picks will ever really make it in the NFL and several might not make it through the first year.
