http://www.walterfootball.com/offseason2013mia.php Yah, they'll probably choke..they'll probably be the eagles south.
I love how every big free agent frenzy now gets compared to those eagles. Well we have 3 things those Eagles didnt have. A QB who can read progressions and get rid of the ball. A qb who isnt injured every season (knock on wood). And an OL that bears resemblance to an actual NFL caliber OL. Walter Football isnt the best source for info either imo. They have their moments but this isnt one of them.
A surprising analysis of the Dolphins from Walter......er, not! The guy really doesn't like the Dolphins, and it comes out in almost everything he writes about them. Could they fail this year, yes, but where's the analysis behind why they're "more likely to choke" beyond "well, the Eagles did". Edit - just read the rest of the article now, and not just the highlighted bit, and it's not too bad a write-up really. But I still disagree with the final analysis paragraph and comparison with the Eagles.
Thanks. Was looking for a good website with a team by team outlook with major free agent gains and losses to refresh before camps start. I usually buy the PFW print addition, but haven't the last two years.
Yeah I know, but he's probably right in this case, this team is the offseason champ and that's about it, we'll see if their man enough to put it together, sacrifice, and actually care to do something about it as a team.
Outside of the predictable Eagles' comparisons I thought this was a pretty fair analysis. I think one thing you can't account for in all of these factors he mentioned is that of coaching.
Here is his rookie forecast for us as well: http://www.walterfootball.com/rookieforecast2013dolphins.php
Walter didn't write that, but man, he gets some flak on the forums from time to time on his Jimmy Clausen love.
pretty good writeup IMO. Even with all our improvements, our likely outcome (IMO) is 9-7 and 7th or 8th spot in AFC. If things go really well, I can see us eeking into a wild card spot. I think we should be able to go 2-3 in the first 5. If we start off 2-3, I'll feel pretty good at making a run at 10 wins.
Pretty much, I just post to post some reading material.. We'll see if he's right though, we'll prolly fold when we get a little hype, I would say half of the players on this team have folded before when they get a little hype of positivity, ( beat the sh&$ out if jets, show *** against bills)so I'm interested to find out if their men or a bunch of boys..if they really give a sh&$ you know, or are they just here cause they got paid, or wanna get paid.
WalterFootball.com might as well be renamed SomeRandomGuyFootball.com. "choke under this new pressure"? LOL. Yeah like there was previously no pressure felt after losing season after losing season as if we were content with it.
Based on some of these threads lately this forum is going to have an epic meltdown if Miami plays poorly in the preseason. I'll still stick with a prediction of 9-7 or 10-6 (the O-line still concerns me quite a bit) - who knows if that gets you in the playoffs. But, this forum seems primed for a meltdown at the first sign of poor play, even if it's a preseason game - like the ones last year.
That whole eagles "dream team" thing was so blown out of proportion anyway. It was a resurgent playoff team back on the rise that acquired 2 pro-bowl caliber CBs to pair with the one they already had, sprinkled with a few other insignificant signings. The media was googly-eyed over the comeback Vick made, and ready to crown them champs after a nice offseason. Lesson learned. We added quite a few new starters with pro-bowl talent, losing almost as many. We've been rebuilding... Replacing Marshall,Davis,Smith,Long,Bush,Dansby,Burnett,Bell etc. Entirely different scenario. Our excitement derives from the young QB we drafted showing promise in a throw away year, and the well timed plan to build around him.
I don't understand the Eagles comparison, the Eagles were supposed to be a "dynasty", supposed to win multiple Super Bowls. "Experts" predicted Super Bowl right off the bat. We are trying to make the playoffs and improve as a team. And we are going to choke under all that pressure? Bad comparison.
My issue is how utterly different the draft write ups and the forecasts are. His obsession with 3-4 and 4-3 as apparently the only ways to structure a defense is also a bit sketchy. Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk 2
IDGAF what anyone has to say, IM EXCITED TO SEE THEM PLAY. First QB since Marino that I felt has a chance to be our franchise QB. We have a depth threat to stretch the field and Keller and Hartline can do their things underneath. We all know what keller CAN do And hardline won't be going up against the top CB this year...he is a good WR with limitations but he gets open. Excited to see Dion Jordan. Can anyone remember the last time the Dolphins have drafted a defensive athlete like Jordan, this high in the draft and they traded up. We have a shot of him turning into the next Aldon Smith, Matthews, Miller or Ware... IMO Brent Grimes was almost at elite status before he was injured. Boy would I like to see Vontae Davis opposite Grime but we have put a lot of resources into db. I just believe more in this team than I did with any other team we have had in the last 10 years
It was a strange article. Almost as if the summary at the end was written by a different author than the main write up. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Some people can't bring themselves to believe that the Patriots won't dominate the division every single year. He did a decent job of outlining the changes that have occurred but at the end he throws it all out the window and says the teams will finish the same as they did last year, NE the same 12-4 record, Miami with 1 extra win to go 8-8. It's the B&B syndrome. Like the Patriots don't succeed because they have good TEAMS, but because Brady and Belichek have some magical powers that cause them to win games. I don't mind it, they have to show up and play just like everyone else. We'll see what happens then.
Most times FA big spending does not turn out well, true, as it is handled as if its desperation time However our spending, the way the contracts are written, and the fact that we went with younger guys means (to me) that yes we want to win now but we also want to win consistantly long term. Any mistakes can be cleaned up and still not land us in CAP hell. Can it blow up in our faces, of course, but I don't think it will given the coaching staff we have now. I would also be very surprised if we don't reach at least 10 wins this season unless RT implodes or we have injuries out the gazoo.
