So for the first time in 15 years I'm going without the sunday ticket... I am really freaking out that I am going to miss the games, but I've had some friends tell me that they know of some "ways" of watching the games online. I figured I could try that out and if it didnt work I could always go to the local sports bar. Am I insane in not wanting to deal with directv anymore? Should I go back to them? Does anyone go the internet streaming route? And whats the quality like with that? I dont know what to do... And I left Directv because I'm just fed up with all of the promotions for new customers and I, a 15 year subscriber get the finger when I ask for a discount on the NFL ticket...
I hated that company. They were horrible with customer service and even worse when it came to billing. Even their contract installers shook me down for an extra $100. I've said on this site before and it appeared I was in the serious minority. But: Link So i don't know, maybe its just a few of us....maybe not.
Find a buddy that does and watch the games with him....Its what I do....I provide the food for Sunday, he paid for the Sunday Ticket.....plus I cant even think I could watch football games alone...
hmm, is this the (call them up and tell them I cant have a satellite dish, so I need to just pay to stream it) method... or something else?
You must not be talking to the retention department. I've never paid for Sunday Ticket. I've been calling in once each year and getting it for free, or at a discounted price and then received discounts on my bill to even it out. This year I got Sunday Ticket Max for 4 payments of $36.99 instead of the usual 8 payments. But I also got $25 off my bill a month for 12 months. I'll let you do the math.
I may be in the minority, but I love DTV. I have always had great customer service, and anytime I have asked (or bluffed by claiming I am cancelling) I have always got NFLT for free or extremley discounted. I have had DTV for about 7 years now, and have never paid full price for NFL ticket. Not even close, and free the majority of the time. Call and bluff, say you're leaving, when they ask why tell them NFL ticket is too expensive, you can save more with dish or cable and go to the sports bar.....they 100% of the time (for me) transfer me to retention dept. who always gets me a huge deal. Now, I am not accusing, but I pay my bill on time every month, I always buy extras like Cinema movies and UFC fights, so I may be one of their "good customers".....but it's worth a shot.
You don't even need to tell them that anymore. Can just sign up for the online package without an account.
And to be fair, DTV isnt the only ones trying to earn new business with deals.....Banks offer better interest rates on CDs for "new money" coming from another financial institutions. Loyal clients hate it, but its the way of the world....
Yea....Red Zone is all I watch on Sunday afternoons. I live in West Virginia so we bet very little Dolphins games up here. I've been watching dolphins games via the net for 4 years now. Unfortunately it's usually spotty and the feed can sometimes go down or freeze a few times per game. That makes it incredibly frustrating. The feed also ends up being a few plays behind the live version as well. But with all that being said, it's better than nothing.
I've never got it for free, but I have always got a discount. What are your methods? Last year I called and said I was thinking of cancelling DTV (Usually when I call I say, I don't want the sunday ticket, and I get a discount) but this time I tried cancelling the whole thing, still only got the normal discount rate... which was something like $199 total (not for the max ticket though, just the basic). My Sunday Ticket is not auto renewed, which I believe is the case for everyone now, meaning, you have to call to get it. So instead of making that call, it starts out with... "I want to cancel"... The overall problem that one encounters is if you are on contract... isn't there a cancellation fee?
This does help... it gives you a higher probability of getting a discount. With all the pron that I order, they should pay me to watch something else...
Funny story this year, I called in as usual and said terminate service at the prompt. I then answered cancel service to the next question of "Cancel service or change programming?". The rep picks up and I asked if I was available for any discounts on my bill as it's getting kind of high. She took a few moments and came back with a $10 off for 12 months and a $15 off for 12 months. I said that's great and asked about Sunday Ticket. She laughed and said the only way I can give you a deal on Sunday Ticket is if you're a Dolphins fan. We then talked for a few minutes about the team and their potential. She came back with the 50% off deal and I went ahead and took it since we were talking about the Phins and I already got the monthly discount. I've never threatened to cancel service to the rep, I just do it at the prompts so I get to retention. I've had to call 2 or 3 times in the past to get a rep who will give me deals. If it isn't good enough, hang up and call back.
If you got madden $99 25th anniversary edition you get Sunday ticket on ps3/Xbox for free. Idk if that deal exist anymore. Me I love Sunday ticket but being over 21 has it perks. Living in New York growing up I'd never be able to catch a game unless it was prime time or against the jets. I used to have to watch the helmets on nfl.com to back an forth, now I'd go to a local casino or a bar to catch a game if I didn't have direct tv. Streams are good, but I hate it when they go out on important plays and they are not clear. That got me through my first couple of years of college but I need to watch it on a big screen now. Price wise though, I think it's about the same if you go to a bar and watch the game, an I know a lot of people like watching at their house. I know if I had to choose I rather watch the game a home. just looks better on my TV... yes i know I can hook up my laptop to the tv but that's a lot of trouble.
she probably knows you're a Dolphins fan from your prior contact with them, it's in your customer file.
haha that happened to me before, but it was a guy....he wasnt going to give me a deal, and I said something along the lines of "come on I am a good fan, I pay out the nose to watch the Dolphins lose every week"......dude says "hold on" does some checking, and not only gives me a discount, but gives it to me free, and 10/off a month. I had to pinch myself to believe it haha.
Just pre-ordered Madden 25 for PS3 on Amazon. It comes with a free year of NFL sunday ticket streamed to your computer or mobile devices. So I'm good
Is there any further obligation or contract? Or do just get the pass code and that's it, you have the Ticket for the year?
I can't stand 'em, papi. We originally had Dish but of course needed DTV for Sunday Ticket. We kept Dish in the den b/c we were still under contract and put DTV in the living room on the bigger TV for football. The past 5 months I've rarely gotten picture on NFLN regardless of weather (plus a small handful of other channels I like), and when it's heavy overcast or slightly rainy I head into the den where I know Dish will still give me a picture. I called DTV about it and they wanted to charge me for the service call even though I had only had the service for 3 or 4 months until that point. So now I stick to watching TV in the den. I figured I'd let it accumulate for a while so that I could pull out all the stops on my final call just before Sunday Ticket is needed. If they still wanna charge me a service call I'll tell them to shove it and bypass them completely by paying for Sunday Ticket online instead. However, I'm hoping DTV will end up giving me Sunday Ticket AND the online package in attempt to gain my loyalty.
That sucks. My PS3 won't read discs anymore but works online just fine, so all my games have to be XBOX. Bummer.
I imagine her sitting there with a small cheat sheet of conversation topics on every team. Next caller "Am I eligible for any discounts?" "Let me check....yes...blah blah" "Sunday Ticket?" "Only if you are a *checks profile* Panthers fan" "Wow I am!" "What do you think about "checks cheat sheet" the way Cam Newton is developing?"
Why would anyone want to sit at a computer all season and watch the games. I fight through preseason but not the season. I just call DTV each year and ask them if I can have the same deal as last year. Five payments of $20 for ST and 6 months of all the movie channels for free. I've been doing this for about ten years.
What year do you live in, putz? You hook that puppy up to your TV and stereo and play it on the big screen with surround sound. That's why I want both normal Sunday Ticket and the online package so I can watch multiple games simultaneously (bring my bedroom or den TV out to the living room).
*anticipating complications when I upgrade to playstation 4 in October, not sure you can even pre-order Madden for ps4.
Only a lot of trouble if you let it be or if you have family. Single guy like me it was easy. Place computer next to 55" TV. Plug in via HDMI. Sit back and recline on couch. Keyboard on lap, mouse and mousepad on armrest. Done. I haven't sat at a computer desk in 6 months now ;p
Because mine is hooked up to a 55" tv I can watch *cough*freestreams*cough* from my couch. Depends where you get it from. Suffice to say I stopped with Sunday Ticket 3 years ago and have gotten by.
I've never had a problem getting a very significant discount on Sunday Ticket. It's very easy if you're persistent - The keys: Immediately get transferred to cancellation dept. Tell them your cancelling because of the Sunday Ticket being offered for free to new customers. If they call your bluff hang up and try again. I've found DTV's customer service is pretty solid. The ****s they contract out to install the **** on the other hand... I could see people giving up Sunday Ticket if you had a great bar to watch the games at. But anyone who relies on a ****ty internet stream that could cut out at any moment and is spotty at best to get their Miami Dolphin fix is bat**** crazy in my opinion.
