I don't know. This Detroit team is one that Las Vegas and the known betting world expects to win 8 games this year. They're not a pushover even without Calvin Johnson. The receivers that played are receivers that will play in the regular season. The corners that played are corners that will play in the regular season. The coverage scheme they played is a coverage scheme they will play in the regular season because of the pressure-based defense that Jim Schwartz has always run since his days with Jeff Fisher in Tennessee. Chris Houston is not as sh-tty a corner as you say. I too would like to see what Weeden does against more of a shell look but I think he saw more of that last week against the Rams and still did well with it. You could most certainly make the same arguments about the Dolphins this preseason, but even worse because the Dolphins' first string offense hasn't really produced yet. I mean look at the Cowboys game. Where's DeMarcus Ware? Where's Anthony Spencer? Where's Jay Ratliff? Where's Sean Lee? Where's Bruce Carter, Brandon Carr, Will Allen, Barry Church or Orlando Scandrick? Where was Maurice Jones-Drew, Cecil Shorts, and Justin Blackmon? What matters to me is how the players looked and to me Brandon Weeden looked sharp in both games. Ryan Tannehill hasn't looked as sharp yet. But I think without Josh Gordon, I don't know how they're even going to get to the goal line consistently in order for Weeden and Richardson to score touchdowns. It's like you said before, Miami's run defense is stout. Norv Turner won't really put us in nickel and try and run the ball that way, he'll challenge the run defense. What he'll do though is throw the football about 10 or 12 times to the backs out of the backfield to challenge Phil Wheeler and Koa Misi in coverage. That was always going to be more about Trent Richardson than Dion Lewis, but losing Lewis does hurt. I don't think they have enough to consistently get on the goal line, and I think if we put them in nickel we have a chance at running the ball. Not a great chance, but a chance. Brian Hartline should be able to produce against Chris Owens and Dustin Keller can find some spaces between their underneath coverage. It should be enough to win. But if they had Josh Gordon I might flip my vote, especially them being at home.
The thing that bothers me still about Jordan Cameron is he's inconsistent. The bulk of those plays he made last night were more on Weeden than they were on Cameron. Jordan Cameron finished those plays by securing the football and that's good, but the decision making and the ball placement on those three plays were...PERFECT. Not a single flaw, not even a nit pick. When your QB plays like that, it makes it easy to produce. But he won't always play like that. Case in point last week Weeden absolutely rocketed a ball to Cameron about 2 yards shy of the sticks on 3rd & 10, and Brandon really shouldn't have done that. Cameron was too close, he didn't need to throw the fast ball there. It was a minor mistake. But Jordan Cameron could have finished that play with the catch, easily. Hit him right on the hands, front shoulder level. He popped it up. Luckily Greg Little makes an athletic play on the ball in the air (the only time he finishes catches is when you're sure he shouldn't be able to) but that was still bad on Cameron.
Ok, now that the game is over it's at the 2:29 mark. Looked better on the big screen last night than currently on my 13.3 laptop.
Based on the fact that you pick the Dolphins to win by 14 points, I think it is you who is looking past the Browns. I think the Dolphins are in for a very hard test when they play the Browns in Cleveland. It should be a close game, but I think the Browns will win 21-17.
He still has time to even that consistency out though, eh. Remember what Dante Rosario did last year during Antonio Gates' week 2 absence? 4 catches for 48 yards, but with 3 TDs. That's what worries me about Cameron. He could go moderately quiet all game long but blow up in the redzone b/c of how ideally schemed up Turner's offense is for giving athletic TEs opportunities in the endzone. Plus, between the 20's I lost track of how many seam routes Jordan ran, not to mention how many of those he was getting behind linebackers on. And boy can that young man play the ball in the air.
I hear you. I'm not trying to bash him. I liked him a lot coming out, and I brought him up as a key potential mismatch in the Miami-Cleveland game recently because I don't think Dannell Ellerbe can even hope to cover him in the seam and Phil Wheeler could have a tough time as well. I'm just trying to say that the consistency doesn't seem to be there yet. Kellen Davis is much the same way IMO. Very big guy, very athletic, great seam threat in the deep middle...doesn't finish. But like you said the thing about having consistency issues is, if you're the opponent and you catch them on the wrong day, you're still dead.
Yup, I remember. You were definitely vocal about him. We's both disappointed we didn't have enough ammo in that draft to nab him.
I'm not being sarcastic. You merely stated that people were overlooking the Browns game and you then predicted the Dolphins would win the game by 14 points. I merely stated that the game would be close and the Browns would win. If the game was being played in Miami, I would pick the Dolphins to win by a close score. I just think these two teams are evenly matched at this time and Cleveland having the home field advantage in this game will benefit the Browns and they will probably win the game. Hopefully I'm wrong and your right.
Ummm you change the batteries in the sarcasm meter so you can detect sarcasm. Oh Lord nevermind. I think it will be a real close game.
will yeatman did look good against the jags, what I like is while he's gaining weight he's keeping his symmetry..the fat distributes evenly, he mirrored effectively with good punch, and really dominated on a couple of the 4th quarter drives, albeit against poor competition..
I expect that Cleveland D to be very good although I'm not sure about their Ss. They may be vulnerable deep. On offense they seem to rely on Gordon to stretch the field. Not having him will hurt them against us. Losing Lewis would also be a big blow. I think it will make their offense more plodding. Weedon, whom I like, is best at passes in the middle of the field and longer looping passes. He doesn't have the gun to hit those deep comebacks and he's not good at escaping the pocket. Without Gordon and Lewis their main weapons will be the TE and Bess in the middle of the field and Richardson. I think we can focus on pressuring the line and Weedon while keeping a S to jump any routes in the seam and really make it tough for their O. My expectation for the game is that it will be a defensive affair with both teams hitting some underneath strikes and running a bit. Both teams may get some first downs but will have trouble sustaining long drives against those defenses. Obviously TOs would be huge in such a game. I think Miami's secondary is more likely than Cleveland's is to get that key TO. And I also think Miami is more likely to break it open with either a deep pass to Wallace or a big play by Miller. Obviously either team could win, but I see the odds as favoring Miami.
LOLz I have no idea what their staff is thinking. Bush won't make it past Week 8 if they keep that up.
Brandon Weeden is either going to be your classic pocket passer in the mold of guys like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco and Eli Manning, or he's going to fail. What led me (and still leads me) to believe that he can go ahead and do that is the anticipation of and feel for the pressure, his ability to get the football out quickly and accurately with a great arm that can beat odd angles and leverage. I don't think he looks awful under pressure, I think he looks like a pocket passer under pressure. With all those guys, if you manage to pressure them, they've already done something wrong.
At for me the optimism against the Browns is that if we lose week 1 to the Browns, suddenly 5-11 doesn't look so silly
Both are rookies will be missing quality practice time, my prediction is Dion will be back practicing next week.
Because we are facing multiple teams on our schedule that are better, especially in the beginning. Browns game is kind of a must have for hope of a winning record The sky will be falling here if we lose week 1. At least my sky will be falling lol Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
So you're saying if we lose the Browns, there's no way we can have a winning season? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me in a world where "any given Sunday" exists.
I see us winning the first two games, I think Bruce Arians is a future great coach, and I just can't fathom Andrew luck playing as well as he did against us last year, also, there must of been 7 or 8 times that if the player was quicker, faster or more athletic Luck wouldn't of been successful on the play, I feel our defense is quicker, faster, and more athletic..
Don't underestimate Weeden. He obviously didn't have a good statistical year last year, but I saw flashes including him almost leading the Browns to a victory over the Steelers- just missed on a couple of big throws that could have won the game. He has one of the best arms in the NFL, period, and I think that he has a better head for the game than Tannehill- reading defenses, not staring down receivers, etc. For all the talk of Tannehill being the 2nd year QB to make a quantum leap over his rookie year, I think that Weeden will be that guy. But- I'm surprised that Cleveland didn't get him more help. Miami went out and got Mike Wallace and got rid of Bess- win/win as far as I'm concerned, needed speed upgrades with a dash of size upgrade. Now Cleveland is stuck with a slow slot guy in Bess and Cleveland got no help for Weeden as per speed/talent at WR. Big mistake, especially considering Weeden's age/time window. Bess's lack of speed makes me queasy- sorry Bess fans, but there's a reason that we practically gave him away to Cleveland. Now he's Weeden's problem. How much better if the Browns drafted Tavon Austin in the 1st round instead of Mingo and got Weeden an explosive, fast, dangerous weapon to work with. Travis Benjamin is fast but unproven, Greg Little is a physically imposing player but not the fastest guy- I like but don't love him, a Da'Rick Rogers type but I'd rather have Rogers. Bottom line, Weeden needed weapons out wide and they got him squat, now Gordon is out 2 games. Seriously, they couldn't draft one receiver? Austin Wheaton Allen Goodwin Rogers Williams Bailey Woods Hopkins Patton Regardless, I think that the arrow is up on Weeden. They just need him to get more weapons. If he's protected and gets better WRs to work with he'll be very good QB imo.
I figure coming out of the first 5 weeks at 3-2 is hopeful, 2-3 more reasonable with the Browns being one of those wins. Take that away you are 1-4 or 2-3 on the optimistic side. Then you still have to get through the division plus the Bengals, Bucs, Chargers, Panthers and @Steelers in December. Easy to find losses there, esp. if you aren't good enough to beat the Browns I'm Negative Nancy
Good question. Haden is one of the best CBs I've seen in the NFL since he was drafted by Cleveland, I'm thinking that he'll be a tough matchup for Wallace- btw I'm assuming here that Cleveland will put Haden on Wallace.
