Lamar miller had a really bad, hesitant, weak game..nothing down hill, easy to knock down, and just to much pitter patter..that's was ugly for a back.. Daniel Thomas in the hunt..nice job. Either Matt Moore can't will himself to play with a sense of urgency in a preseason game, or he's checked out, I saw a moment where he didn't give a sh$&... Dumass. Our depth players played a pathetic game...they sucked big time.. Jamar Taylor will be a player..THAT tackle, was a flash..it takes serious quickness to trail a man in that fashion..textbook tackle..,he's a great tackler of an opponent, centers his opponent beautifully. Was wrong about samuda, he's not ready.. Tannehill, when he has time, and not sleeping in the pocket, can do some things..he's close to 100 qbr rating in four quarters.. We really did no misdirection...no read option, not one rollout, it's obvious what shermans philosophy is in preseason, texans were misdirecting us to death. Our 2nd and 3rd team defense could not stop anything.. Somebody needs to speak with Matt Moore and ask him if he wants to be here...maybe it's all about regular season for him, but I sure don't respect him showing his *** in a meaningless game. Great coverage by Misi, proud if that, our defense looked exceptional..I wouldn't worry about the couple runs in the beginning. Did y'all see that plant by grimes, I'm not sure that was his injured foot, but if it was, that plant and burst was exceptional from that bionic Achilles. Ellerbe will be susceptible in coverage, wheeler will be ok, saw some good things in coverage by wheeler. Ellerbe is a read my keys and explode kind of guy, watch out on your play action, he will bite big time. Good thing the texans used a lot of misdirection, we might learn something before the regular season. Dion sims..and eggnog...lol...go get'em tigers... Move pocket early, read option early, loosen up Tannehill, preety cool that Sherman will not do such things in preseason...not at all. I wish I was training John Jerry while he's doing his rehab.. Jamar Taylor was My favorite flash. Nothing from our 4 thru 6 at receiver..not much anywhere else. Matt Moore pissed me off tonite... Lamar miller disappointed.. I miss Dion Jordan..
Michael Egnew "won" tonight. Nice to see Tanny look good early although Wallace was open by 2-3 yards on what SHOULD have been a 50+ TD. I wish the season was Tommorow
- matt moore has kind of always looked like that unfortunately. You could never tell if you were winning or losing watching him - Two weeks ago DT is fighting for a job against gray/gilly, now he's fighting for the starting position IMO. Lamar Miller really hasn't shown anything to suggest he can be our guy other than his quickness. - losing keller...really sucks. At least we've seen Clay make a few plays before. Sims and Egnew have huge opportunities. - Grimes is awesome - Hey Wallace, nice to have you here! You look like you're going to be fun to watch - Tannehill has looked good to great so far. - Haven't heard anyone dog J. Martin since before the HOF game. - This Defense is gonna be good.
Shout out to Brandon Gibson, dude moves the chains. With Keller gone his importance just increased. Also, big props to Wallace blocking. Did anyone else see his blocking on Miller's rushing TD? Dude pushed the crap out of the guy he was blocking.
wallace had a great block in the first quarter, where egnew got called for the holding. wallace hit him and drove him back. was really nice to see.
He missed that throw to Wallace, another one to Hartline sailed on him but he looked good on more throws. The TD to Wallace had juice and needed juice. He showed the growing pains might be worth it and the end result might be good enough. He has a long way to go. The O-line is weak but Lamar Miller break an arm tackle will ya. Just when you thought the bubble guys should be stepping up all over to make the team, they all disappeared. The Keller injury put a negative on anything positive this game and there were some positives. Thats a big loss for an offense trying to make a name. Wallace, Gibson, and Grimes made Ireland look good tonight.
Loved that the first team D abolsutely dominated Houston's first team. Loved that Wake got a sack as if to say "Yeah **** you, you aint scoring on us"
Our defense is lights out. If our offense is at least decent (I'm expecting better than decent) then we will definitely be in the hunt for the playoffs. Defensive line was stellar. Wake with the sack, Vernon had a good rush that drew a holding penalty, and Odrick had a sweet stuff on a run. Brent Grimes may wind up being the steal of free agency. He is undersized but man he can BALL. I'm one of the few remaining Daniel Thomas supporters (CitizenSnips as well) and was really happy to see run hard and play well. I'm well aware of his negatives but he can block well and catch well out of the backfield. I'm telling you, he CAN be a productive player for us if he continues to work hard at it. He's the perfect compliment to Lamar Miller. Tannehill to Wallace all day every day. Great to see them finally connect, especially for a touchdown. Speaking of touchdowns, Brian Hartline, c'mon son. Jonathan Martin seemed to have another good game. Maybe people can back of the ledge for a little. Josh Samuda on the other hand, not so much. Love his potential but he's got some work to do. I'm really hoping Dustin Keller (or Justin, if you're D.J. Swearinger) gets better soon. I thought he was going to have a big year for us and it sucks to see someone work so hard just to have it taken away on one play. I know a lot of Jets fans who say he is such a friendly, happy dude so godspeed to him. 3 weeks until the opener!!!
Really liked what I saw tonight from both first team units. Losing Keller would be tough. I'm hoping it's not as serious as people are fearing...
Our new PBP beat writer said possibly career ending. Of course he looks like he just graduated from Junior High to me.
Tracy Robertson, Kheeston Randall and AJ Francis. I want to keep all three of these players. So many times I glance at the line and thinks, "That guy did a good job," then I look at the number, it turns out to be one of these three players. Vaughn Martin, I have never glanced at the line, think "That guy did a good job," and it turn out to be Vaughn Martin. Generally, it is, "That guy should have done better" or "That guy got blown off the line," it turns out to be Vaughn Martin. IMO, all three of the players above should be kept instead of Vaughn Martin.
I liked the way he tossed Shaub the ground like he was a butterfly...or like some piece of trash..lol, made me laugh and and wanna talk trash?
I agree. I think Randall is a pretty safe bet, and perhaps one of the other two. I like Tristan #66 too. He seems to make a play or two that stand out in every game.
it´s kind of typical dolphins luck - Kendall Wright hurts his knee...says he is concerned about the MRI results....Sprain..out a couple of weeks - Derek Wolfe hurts his spine on a freaky play is taken to the hospital with that ambulance car directly on a field and he is on a stretcher...after some tests, he joins his team on the flight home and if it would be a regular season game next week, he could probably play....yikes - Dustin Keller got his knee hyperextended in a 45 degrees angle.....can anyone pray for a hyperextension....we need some luck Quentin Coples has a hairline fracture in his foot, will miss 3-4 weeks
Our defense looks so good even without him, that adding Jordan as a wildcard to it has me positively drooling.
I miss Ben Volin. I know he's new, but Abramson seems out of his depth so far. Maybe he'll grow into the job.
I guess he has a lot of interceptions in practice because he jumps on a lot of short passes. He certainly has no idea how to cover a receiver who fakes going short and takes off on a long route. I think his play last night has put him on the bubble, as far as making the team goes. I was not impressed at all by his play in the secondary.
Agreed. You can teach better coverage technique. I don't know that you can teach the playmaking ability he has shown.
Ck did a write up on Davis. He said he excelled in redzone D because it took away his deep responsibilities and allows him to rely on his athleticism. Remember this guy is extremely raw. If you read his back story he has hardly any experience, couple years of high school, 1 year juco, couple years of D1. I think he has a rare skill and just needs to be coached by professionals. He may not see the field a lot this year, but I like him in the long term.
I'm hoping our offense can score more points. I'm sure our defense will only allow low points, but our O needs to score points.
- I don't think enough can be said for Brandon Gibson. All that guy does is catch 1st downs. He doesn't get mentioned enough and is sort of the forgotten receiver, but I think he's legit and needs some attention. The last automatic 1st down machine was McDuffie. - Hartline is allergic to TDs. There is no denying it. - Dion Sims had been impressive in camp and preseason....until last night. I counted 2 drops and 1 penalty. I do think it was just a bad night for him and not indicative of anything. - I know Matt Moore didn't have any blocking.....but he was terrible. Like any other team's UDFA rookie 4th string QB terrible. - I think Tannehill turned a corner last night or we found out how to jump start him....let him run a little.....read option or roll out. He looked like two different QBs before and after that scramble, IMO. - I'm convinced Brent Grimes was bitten by a radioactive flea and probably fights crime in the off season. - Our defense is good. Very, very, very good. Our defense is as good....as.....Matt Moore was bad last night. In the timeline of awesome to suck those could be the ends of the spectrum.
overall what I saw was better than what I expected but less than I hoped for. RT starts slow and his play is sloppy but he hangs in there with remarkable poise. It was what impressed me the most about him last year and its what impressed me the most last night.
Tannehill is easing my fears about his growth this season Hartline is making me want to puke, so did Matt Moore last night, I think he's lost his edge because he knows he's got the #2 QB spot locked down. We need Devlin to give Moore some competition, light a fire under his ***. Our D looked so good vs. the very good Texans offense, the D is going to win some games for us this year, Davis is going to be a solid player, but not yet. Has to learn how to cover a deep route, don't expect to see him on the field much THIS year, except perhaps in short yardage/end zone situations. Martin looks better and is making me feel he can be OK, not great, for us. On the other hand Samuda is at least a year away from even thinking of competing for a starting position. Keller's injury is devastating to me, we really needed him as Tannehill's dump off and seam threat. Simms and Egnew are a long way from being ready for prime time IMO. Looking forward to Sherman opening up the play book in the regular season. Somebody want to awaken Coyle to have our DL coach teach the right DE how to stay home and stop those roll outs? The whole list of teams we play this season are adding that to their game plan against us.
Our running game is weak. Miller has yet to convince me he can/should be a feature back at this level. He just doesn't look like a guy who should be getting 16-23 carries/gm - doesn't run tough through contact, is indecisive at times, homerun hitter, inconsistent making decisions and taking what's there (I remember reading that 40% of his carries last year went for 2yds or less)...and these were the same issues he had in college, the things that made him a 4th round pick. He's a change-of-pace guy who should get around 10-12 carries, imo. If DT keeps playing like he did last night, I think we're in for a 50/50 split workload.
Tristan O is very raw though. There are times you watch him and you say WTF are you doing? Just taken out of the play completely. That is a measure of a guy that, if on the bubble, won't make the 53 because he's one injury away from having to produce consistently. And consistency is the key. Can you depend on him to be consistent at this point of his career? I would say no. Now, compare that to our favorite punching bag this year in Jason Trusnik. At least he is somewhat consistent. He'll be in the right place more often than not. Is he a game changer like Tristan O is? Not a positive one. But he isn't a negative one either. It's the lesser of two evils. Hopefully Tristan will make it to the practice squad though because he has definitely flashed enough ability to say "we need to coach him up for a year and see where he is next year"
