Got to say. As much as I think ARod is a scum bag. Seeing his team and manager get behind him like that is nice. With everything going on I bet he felt like a man on a island and not so much after that.

I hope this doesn't wake the Yankees up and put them in high gear.

Supposedly it is being reported that A-Rod blew off an invite from Dempster to some event.....still......I don't get how he doesn't get thrown out....it would have screwed Boston too bullpen wise for that game, and the WC trip....

As for the team yeah both of them weren't really on the field I really couldn't tell how far the Yankees go, they were out, A-Rod's demeanor dictated it as well and he was pretty much like whatever about it .....Gardner was yapping at RD.....I think Girardi pretty much stole the show....his post game presser was one of the best I have seen in a while....

I just if you are going to get hit, it might as well be Dempster he barely reaches 90.....

Right as much as I bag on the guy, he is still part of the team, I have always said I would root for anybody on the team as long as they are on the team...**** I would root for Vick if he was on Miami....

He really does in all of sports play the best villain...him and Kobe...I give the edge to Arod though.......

As for sparks who knows, time is getting short that's all I know.....but they were saying it last night that 80% of their games left are against the AL East, so it it is right there for them.....

Whatever the reason was it was dumb. The Sox are in the middle of a playoff race, you don't want to start a bean ball war and risk anyone on your team possibly getting hurt. Just dumb.

Good point about Arod's demeanor. Perhaps if he went nuts things would have been different.

And yes I'm not a Girardi fan by any means but have to agree with everything he did and said.

The spark/momentum will only go as far as the next day's SPer. Lost in the big Yankee win is how poorly Sabathia pitched again. If the Yankees are going to go on any type of run they need him to pitch like he's used to pitching.

Why? The Sox had Pedro and Schilling at the top of the rotation and both Arroyo and Wakefield pitched fine. Derek Lowe was the only starter that really had a bad year but was good in the playoffs. Those 5 starters averages 198 innings pitched. Of the 162 games, only 5 were started by pitchers other than those 5 guys.

In the playoffs the Sox got very good SPing performances after Game 3 of the ALCS, which is why they were able to come back from 0-3.

I get that they had good pitching, but there is a reason why the record of teams down 0-3 don't comeback and roll 4 in a row......which makes it all the more remarkable that they did do it......

Of course all this never happened....

Right but I think we're getting off topic a bit here. We're discussing whether the Yankees can use last night's game to go on a run. All I'm saying is usually teams that go on these runs get very good starting pitching. And right now with the way both CC, Hughes and Pettitte have been pitching it could be tough. And that's if you believe in Nova.

Hughes is awful, I wish they would pull him and put him in the BP where career wise his numbers are much better....however who do you fill the spot with? I mean Joe can figure it out, maybe bring a kid up to spot start who knows...he is really disappointing this year...

AP will keep you in games, he isn't ideal but they always seem to be right there win or lose when he pitches.....

Yes the big thing is CC, because lets face it he isn't going anywhere and is getting the ball every 5th day...you just have to hope he figures something out and goes on a little run in September....I feel bad for the guy, he is a class act, never complains, people the other night thought for sure CC was going to throw at Papi or DP but I knew he wasn't....it just isn't his style....

Their hitting seems to be much better and runs during the regular season can be sparked by a prolonged period of offense output, because the other teams pitching isn't as good, but I agree you need to least have decent pitching IMO....

I mean they have to play really good baseball, .750-.850 ball to get that last WC spot......can they do it? Who knows but again the teams they are chasing are right in front of them and they are playing so there can't be any excuses they need to go out and win games..

We have a lineup that can score runs now. No reason we can't make upb ground. If we had this lineup all year we would be up five games in first right now

Not even close. You might be 5 games within first instead of 8 out. But 5 leading? No.

39 games left in the season they're 8 games back of 1st in the AL East and in 4th place. I think you can probably write them off on that one. They're only 6.5 back in the wild card with 3 teams ahead of them. It's not impossible but it's going to be pretty tough. Well see if they can get on any type of run here.

Ok, but will you give the Sox a healthy Buchholz and bullpen all year and the Rays a healthy Price, Cobb and Moore too?

Only 6 in the loss column though....I agree it is a very very uphill battle to win the Division, because they play against them and TB, to which you think they are going to split those remaining games.....

It all starts today where they need to win 2....

But don't forget the Sox have played 4 more games then the Yankees & Rays have and 3 more than Baltimore. So they have the a bit of an advantage there.

Here's a good read on the Yankees' playoff chances:

Again Division is very uphill...not impossible (would take the Sox tanking as well and to a certain extend TB, which is too much to ask) but very uphill.....the 2nd WC is attainable though...

Don't forget Baltimore too. The Yankees need to climb over 3 teams for that 1 spot in the AL East.

2nd WC spot is attainable, anything can happen but again they need to fight off 4 teams for it.

Right, you don't worry about that though, just win games.....winning games puts pressure on the teams in front of you....not to mention there are plenty of games left with Balt.....

No. You're the red sox. Bad luck is part of your DNA

Just go 0-10 over the next ten and get it over with. Don't drag it out and keep your hopes alive. You know the collapse is coming. Embrace it

Do you not remember the start some of your sub ins had? And the great pitching to start? Um yes. If this team you had right now played the whole year you MIGHT have 3 more wins.

Exactly. We should just cancel the rest of the season and just raise another flag up at Yankee Stadium, right?

fine. Do it the hard way. I only bring this up because I care. I don't want to see sad 11 year old boston eyes crying come late september. I had hoped to spare this of your beloved fans. Call me sentimental

Nice job Nixy!! Big big taking those two games tonight.

So with those 2 wins tonight they jumped KC and one game behind Cleveland at the moment who is playing out in LAA. If they lose, they have the same amount of losses. As well if TB holds their big lead they are only one game behind Balt in the loss column.

The icing on the cake would be if Boston losses as they will pick up 1.5 games against them as well, but that ain't going to happen cuz the Giants are inept.

Sucks I am jaded for this weekend, because obviously I want the Yanks to win but I am loving TB winning as well to keep the pressure on Boston, and they play each other this weekend....

EDIT: My bad I should have said Boston needs to keep the pressure TB now that TB is in first....I didn't realize that...
