Dion Jordan is a superior athlete, if anyone really wants to dig, just start researching his ore combine training methods, the things he was doing with a bad shoulder would suprise folks..

My personal opinion is he didn't re-injure the shoulder, I think he made a very strong hit with his shoulder in the jag game and told the staff he just doesn't feel like he's 100 percent yet..so boom, they gave him three more weeks of strength training to get it ready for the season.

I thought it was speculation that the subject of that discussion was Dion.

This is a very telling statement from Dion himself:

Talking about if he'd be surprised if he missed the season opener. Tells you where he's at right now in terms of how he's feeling.

I don't know how it applies to football but he's right about shoulder injuries being the most problematic of injuries for pitchers.

Here's the problem with that, though. Pitchers use their whole body when building up enough kinetic energy to throw a baseball. Losing even a little bit of flexibility and strength in your shoulder is enough to lose 3-5 mph off of a fastball (Which is why pitchers start steadily losing velocity after the age of 25). That's enough velocity to turn an elite pitcher into merely a good one, or a good one into Chris Volstad.

But I don't think losing that tiny bit of flexibility and strength is really an issue for football players. Assuming Jordan even loses that, which is a big assumption.

Sorry I'll be more clear then my last post. My original post I wasn't making any assumption on the right or wrong. I was just being tongue and cheek about the timing after Omar's article.

I'm just of no opinion beyond that because when they first reported he'd be back in time for the regular season I didn't buy it. I have a feeling he'll miss a couple games. Hopefully, that is all though. I'd hate to see this turn into a wasted rookie year for him. Same concern I have with Taylor.

As for the timing, I'm pretty sure the timing of Armando's post about it was ENTIRELY due to seeing Ireland on the practice field having such a long and involved discussion with the trainers and coaches about Jordan's shoulder. That was what prompted the digging, IMO. And it's probably what also prompted the sources to break silence.

I just hope these aren't career stunting moves. Ireland took a big risk acquiring injury prone players. Maybe it pays off in the long run, but this could implode like Smiley's shoulder where we lose Jordan/Taylor most of the season. Bench a promising player who could have started at RG possibly...but never gave the chance cause we forced him into a tackle role. A 3rd rounder who I like...but he's pretty boom or bust at the moment. A 4th rounder who might not even make the team etc. But that's the pessimistic side I'd prefer not to show ;p

The day Dion Jordan has to throw 200 innings in a NFL season..I'll worry.

Zach Thomas..remember him? played his entire career with a shoulder made up of hamburger meat. How did it turn out?

Nothing at this point in a guy's career could be deemed to impact his career, unless he re-tears the same labrum or something like that, and even that might not do it.

I think career impact was never on the table, as far as things we should be concerned about.

What I'm concerned about are weeks 1 and 2 and getting pressure on young QBs Brandon Weeden and Andrew Luck.

Different positions. Better example would be Trace Armstrong being a productive pass rush specialist even though he couldn't lift his arms higher than shoulder level. But then, Armstrong was a one-trick pony as a pass rusher. It was bull rush or nothing.

This is something that I don't get, even as I was reading the reporters tweet and write about it yesterday.

Why would Jeff Ireland wait until practice had started, when all the media is there to speculate and tweet to fans, to pick as the best time to have a long, drawn out discussion with the trainers about Dion Jordan's injury? Why not ask before coming out to practice or after? Some things just seem - duh! not for public consumption. And with the way the Dolphins (and many football teams) guard their injury statuses, talking to the trainers about Jordan's injury seems like something that would just be done in-house. Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with the way football organizations do their business, but if I paralleled that issue with one in my business of Contracts, it just seems like an issue like that would be taken care of in a room, management only talking to the pertinent parties, without the rest of the company or any visitors seeing.

It just didn't make sense to me unless you're trying to alert the world - Hey! Dion Jordan shoulder injury, right here! Maybe I'm just making too much out of it. But it is probably what started more digging on the issue. And now we have Dion Jordan commenting how he wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play.

The simple fact of the matter is that Armando was speculating about the discussion. His first tweet about it, was guessing about the topic and in typical mando fashion the next tweet just pretended the matter was settled.

I don't see any reason for Jeff Ireland not to talk to the trainers on the field about the situation. I don't see it as a mistake or a big deal, or as an opportunity to construct a conspiracy theory.

Okay. Fair enough. I just don't see any reason to talk about it with them on the field. Because there's no doubt, it's just going to cause speculation. And injury speculation, from the Dolphins POV, hasn't seemed to be what they want as an organization. "We'll talk about the players that are on the field practicing and only those players...", not wanting players to talk about injuries (at least I think they don't, but I may be incorrect), etc. It's not a big deal; I just don't get it.

In my favor..I would argue. Zach had to hit or be hit on damn near every run play.

and I haven't even gotten to the fine pharmaceuticals that are available for mere shoulder pain.

    Well, your not mine. :tongue2:

So I would have rather had Lane Johnson...addressing an actual imminent need on this team, as well as trying to secure the likelyhood of success for all the $$$$ you spent on offensive skill positions to make Tannehill better, than Dion Jordan, his shoulder, and the likely hood that he wasn't even the best player at his position. (Jarvis Jones HELLO)

The pick made no sense to me. Still doesn't. Trade up - Dump a 2nd rounder - Ignore your need at Tackle possibly watering down the money you spent on the offense in free agency.... for what? The 2nd best DE in the draft who is coming off Labrum sugery. BRILLIANT!!

What is Ireland thinking??? This guy must be feeling like one secure pony in this gig of his.

That makes me evil?? I'm sorry, I don't see it.

It's on now...right. Ireland can do no wrong around here... don't be afraid of this FAN-attic crowd.

We still love the DOLPHINS just as much as you. We want them to WIN just as much as you.

So you can't be objective - that is not our fault.

Yawn. And Pat White was a better quarterback than Dan Marino, and I can prove it. (If you believe the bull**** you just posted)

I actually think JJ is am amazing talent. But if 72 has an issue with Dion's shoulder which may sideline him a few weeks, I don't see how he can support the idea of taking JJ whose spinal issues not only put his career at risk on any given play, but his ability to walk.

First of all it is "Ridiculous" and no..it is not.

You threw a bunch of meaningless numbers to suggest that JJ is better than Dion. I merely told you I can do the same for Pat White over Marino.

THAT was the "logic" you used.

I didn't want JJ either, I felt after spending so much money on the offense via FA $$$$, that the need to see those $$$$ pay off, warranted taking Lane Johnson. Your building an offense, shore up Left Tackle so they prosper.

I was merely saying, if you had to ignore Left Tackle and take a DE, then take JJ and keep your 2nd rounder.

It didn't make sense for this team, to do what he did. Why spend $$$$ on the offseason, then leave those $$$$ with a suspect line at best.
    Your buying to fail.

That is all. I love the Dolphins and I want to see them get it right.

Your comparing apples to oranges. QB's to DE's. Offense to Defense. Let me help you, throw out Brian Bosworth or something.

For every Bosworth there are 10 Jerome Browns Ray Lewis Warren Sapps.

And don't correct my typos, it's smug.

So instead you wanted to throw away a top 3 pick on a position that has been handled so far quite well by our 2nd rounder. Enough with the first round OL.

Question: Is that you LB? Cause I'm seeing the same cray cray.

Let me just say, when the trade was announced that the Dolphins traded up, there wasn't a single person in that Radio City Music Hall that didn't have us trading up to take the Left Tackle. Even the Eagles who took Johnson 4th, were scrambling for a contingency.

The pick made no sense to anyone but a small group of people in here.

Try to be objective for a change and if you can't be such, then may you suffer with every sack this line gives up. (Which is going to be A LOT of them)

So either we take an Olineman we may not 'need' or we take a guy who is injured and may not play.

    Is there a third option?

Here is how I will look at it.

I will look at the differential between how many sacks and hurries Martin gives up versus how many Lane Johnson gives up.

Then I will look at the difference between how many sacks and hurries Jordan has compared to how many Odrick/Vernon had last year in the same postions, snaps and downs.

If Jordan adds more pass rush to this team than Martin 'costs' us by not taking Lane Johnson, then we made the right choice... and that's just THIS year, before Jordan and Martin improve.

I don't think you understand comparisons. He compared a qb to a qb, and then compared that comparison to your comparison. Get it now? Maybe, sound it out?

It's the kind of pick that winners make. Did the Giants need jason pierre-paul when they took him? No. they had Tuck, Osi, and Kiwanuka. They didn't care. The giants have had a pretty lackluster line for years now, they still do. But, they have two championships as well.

I wouldn't even be mad at another DE next year.

Why on earth would you draft a tackle if your new HC was fine with the guy he had?

It’s been well documented that Coach Philbin arrived to his interview with a comprehensive plan to turn the franchise around and apparently Ross and Ireland bought in and are executing it.

It’s obvious with the roster turnover that has occurred that Philbin wasn’t happy with the hand he was dealt at a number of positions. As many know, I’m not an Ireland fan by any stretch of the imagination, but criticizing his acquisitions/cuts 2 weeks before real football starts seems pretty silly to me.

Thats funny since the G-men had one of the best Offensive Lines in the NFL last year.. They were 7th as a team in YPC with three different backs carrying the load due to injury. They were also 1st in the NFL in sacks allowed.

They return all five starters from last season and drafted a guard in the first round this season. (Justin Pugh) Who will likely win a starting spot.

    DOH
