well don't wanna sound like a broken record but as always good stuff, looks like you found some new toys to make the gifs even more clearer, i already posted this in the game thread, but that first gif under the execution topic...lamar miller busts free and uncovered down the left sideline

edit: i just saw that you also mentioned this later under the cost topic

Sounds to me like the coaches were right when we signed him that Wallace wasn't a one-trick pony when it came to routes.

    Yes, it's not a slideshow. :)

Those slideshows really need a forward/back button at the bottom, most annoying having to scroll up to the top to get to the next page.

Diagrams/images are missing for me, checked the mark up for the page and they seem to be missing. CMS related issue?

    SMH.

Taking a page right out of the Armando/Cole playbook for creating controversy. Last week, after a win, you helped push the "Wallace is angry at his coaches" narrative and now this week you're trying to plant this seed of controversy, also after a win.

    Very disappointing.

Well...to be honest...its very rhetorical. The question itself does lend itself to what Fin was saying...because its not a question that can actually be answered. Now..I think there are places for these kinds of questions when writing a piece, if only because it spurns debate. We just need to be careful and debate the question, not the questioner.

    Nah, it's definitely fair.

Like, what the hell kind of controversy can he cause? This would be the worlds worst controversy ever.

My first inclination would be that Wallace was designed to be used as a decoy/clearing out mechanism against the Browns- go deep, clear out that side of the field, if he catches something deep all the better. The reason is simple- Joe Haden is that good. He's one of the best CBs in the NFL, period. Far better to get Wallace involved against a Greg Toler, Vontae Davis, whoever the Colts have, because they certainly don't have a Joe Haden who can blanket the likes of Mike Wallace.

Haden was stride for stride with Wallace all day from what I saw, he dominated that matchup. I think that Wallace's ego was bruised, and he was reduced to 1 catch for 15 yards, for that very reason- he was used at least partially as a decoy/clearing mechanism versus the Browns against an extraordinarily good Cornerback in Joe Haden.

It's a perfectly reasonable question and consistent with CK's way of thinking. He is all about opportunity cost and this is an interesting example of that. If we force the ball to Wallace, do we miss out on better opportunities? I think that type of question would lead to a really great discussion.

Its a question to purposely get people discussing if the staff is inept. That has been the MO for awhile with various articles from local media. Throw out a little bit of controversy and see if it takes root. Every team in every game has at least one play they missed, difference is here we have to question the motives of the staff. Last week, we went to Wallace 5 times, and the plays didn't work out. He was upset, CK and the local media tried to force the narrative that he was upset with the staff even though many on the team including Wallace himself, clarified he was upset with himself. So of course, this week he plays better and gets targeted more, so now we have to try and steer the narrative back to the controversy form last week.

Yes really. The breakdown and analysis is exceptional and unlike what most sites can offer. That's why its all the more disappointing the article had to stoop down to an Armando level tactic.

Its not reasonable but it is consistent.

Wallace was not forced the ball this week, just as he wasn't purposely not targeted last week. These are fabrications to generate controversy. CK's analysis of plays and schemes put him on a higher level than that of Armando and Jason Cole, who are guys who need to generate controversy because their insight is nonexistent compared to CK's, which is why he shouldn't be using their tricks.

Except they did use him differently, and he was bothered enough by the play calling that either he or joe decided that they needed a private meeting about it.

Using him differently =/= forcing him the ball.

The meeting had to do with the controversy that was being pushed, not because Wallace was mad at the coaches.

Link as to what was discussed at this private meeting? I've already given mine. Also, ck used "producing better", the linked article said "expanded role". What sort of equation did you use to determine which was = "forcing the ball"?

It would have been irresponsible for me not to ask that question given how the play developed. I'm paid to represent both sides of an issue.

The link you provided does not prove Wallace was mad at the coaches. Philbin mentioned talking to Wallace in one of his pressers on the official site. The impression he left about that, was one of being careful how you say things.

And no, CK did not directly use the word "forcing". His question did use the definition of forcing the ball though, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I didnt take away from it that he is trying to start a controversy. I don't agree with the quote either, but it is an interesting thought. On the play he is specifically talking about the play that Miller is open on a wheel route, Miller is probably the 3rd or 4th read on that play. This leads me to believe that someone else before him in the reads got open first. If Tannehill is progressing like we hope he is, he is making his reads correctly and throwing it to the open man and not just forcing it to the first target. The real question is if on that paticular play, was the person he actually threw it to open?

Yeah I think it's pretty clear that Mike Wallace was upset with the coaching staff last week. I think it's also clear the coaching staff made adjustments in this game to get him going.

That happens multiple times in every game for every team, should the question always be about the staff forcing the ball to another player? The narrative here was already fabricated from the week before, so it has to be kept alive.

Right, I'm agreeing with you... I think.

It's not that the question shouldnt be asked, its how it was asked. Why the ball didnt go to Miller on that particular play is the question. The conclusion that it was because we were forcing every throw to Wallace is not the answer IMHO.

I think in the immediate aftermath of the football game, yes Mike Wallace was upset that he wasn't a more featured part of the game plan. He repeatedly answered every question the media asked him about his production with a reference that they need to ask the coaches. He repeated multiple times.

And after the game Armando quoted a source that is in Wallace's inner circle saying that Wallace was "livid" that he wasn't a bigger part of the game plan. I get that people don't like Armando. I think I personally have a more legit and direct reason to hate the man than most. But I don't get this assumption that he's just purely lying about that source, as if he just made it up out of thin air. Reporters that make sources up out of thin air don't survive in that business.

Yes, cooler heads eventually prevailed. Wallace cooled off, fell in line, recognized that he could have played better against Joe Haden, and some of that change of direction MAY have not-so-coincidentally come at about the same time Joe Philbin felt it necessary to have a private meeting with Wallace.

I think he was upset about the game plan worked out, I don't think he was angry at his coaches. I think they expected some level of success running which would have setup his deep routes. It seems like sophistry, but I think there is an importance difference between angry at game plan and angry at coaches. Marino was not thrilled about running the ball, but I don't think he took it personally. Regardless, from the opening drive they used wallace differently.

It may or may not be the answer, but it's a question that clearly needed to be asked given the lengths the coaching staff went to during the game planning phase of the game to scheme Mike Wallace differently in order to make him more productive than a week ago.

Quite frankly, it would be irresponsible of me not to ask that question. It would come off fanboy-ish to just glowingly talk about how they got Mike Wallace all of this production without looking at what it may have cost them.
