Forgot about this: I participated in a conference call with other long time season ticket holders two years ago, and when asked for Aesthetic improvements to the stadium I gave them this. I also told them where to hang them, and to begin to push "players" as stars and faces of the team. I was called back and told that they liked the suggestion. Low and behold...the opener this year...has my idea executed! FLAWLESSLY as well, BTW.
I do not like the Patriots this year I do not like them with great cheer I do not like their quarterback, man I do not like them, Sam-I-am
I'd honestly like to know who received the phone call from the Dolphin saying they liked the idea of trimming out the stadium like a Dr. Seuss book. Whoever it was probably just dropped their phone and stared off in wide-eyed disbelief that they thought he was being serious.
I really liked the inside look as well, the large new colored stripes alongside the front row down was very cool, and I noticed they put more folks in sections on the sideline.
While parts of it do indeed resemble a Dr. Suess book, I love the big player murals, whatever. They are awesome.
Chris, the artist Romero Britto, actually did this artwork, I believe. He is a local artist and has inspired artwork in some buildings around Miami including Baptist Hospital and Miami Children's Hospital. http://www.britto.com/front/originals
That's all fine and good but the "artwork" on the trim of the stadium doesn't resemble anything Britto has up on that website. It resembles Dr. Seuss drawings, circus drawings, and as lmeister3 astutely pointed out, it resembles Nickelodeon Studios.
So sorry..I'm a dumass...I wear glasses now when I read, sometimes I don't pick them up when I come on here..
Take talented Artist... Let non-artist Steve Ross tell him what to put on stadium. Result = Steve Ross' taste level approximates that of typical Dr Suess and Nickelodeon fan. aka a 6 year old.
Here, this is for you: Right from the artist's website, it looks just like the colored portions of this:
It isn't too much different than the colorful contemporary art that fills the inside of the new Cowboy stadium...just they used a local artist who seems to be pretty popular doing artwork in other large public places. Plus it's kind of the "fun for the whole family" vibe they've probably been striving for.
I'm not a big fan of the polka dots... looks like something out of my kids' kindergarten class. Colors don't even match.
You know where I first saw the huge player profiles like that at a stadium? The Raiders. We are doomed. I am sure more than just Section gave similar feedback but even if not, it is cool that they seem to be listening tot he fans to improve the experience. Atta boy Secs! Secs? Secks? SEX!
I agree. The player murals and new logo should readily be the focal point, and they're substantial enough to stand alone w/o the silly wallpaper from Pee Wee's Playhouse distracting the eye. To me, it's a football stadium not an art museum. If they wanna get all artsy about it then how about at least using team colors, no?
As a lifelong Dolphins fan and a lifelong children's book reader, I'd like to take this opportunity to speak for both categories of fan (at least the ones who semi-agree and would let me speak for them... I think that makes one of me), and thank you for your contribution, Section, to the Sun Life Stadium aesthetics.
