Those Monday nite commercials sure do make me giddy...proud if the team...feels good..kudos to those who understood the transition with the team the last two years, were young, in good cap shape, and relevant...

There's no reason to believe they should win. But they had no business being in that game against Atlanta either.*

Lot's is being said about Rob Ryan and what he's done to the Saints, previously worst in the league, defense. Though they did beat Atlanta, they had trouble against the worst QB in the league.*

I'm hoping, if Tannehill can learn to step up in the face of pressure, the offense can finally break 30 points.*

Agree that this is a game where we will need to score a lot of points to win. I hope Philbin and Sherman really challenge the offense. They are going to have to carry the game. I hope the coaches come up with a wide open game plan and that the pass protection allows it to work.

This is about what i'm thinking. As someone else already mentioned, good teams lose games too, hence Miami's still unbroken 17-0 record. Of course i want to see a win, but this thread is about expectations, and i'm keeping them in check. I can see us winning, but as long as it's close, i'll feel OK about things. Remember that GB/Arizona shootout in the playoffs a few years back? no one was trashing the loser of that game.

My realistic expectation of the Dolphins this Monday is to win the game.

That's always been my realistic expectation whether they disappoint or not.

If they lose they lose but the goal is to win the Super Bowl and I think they should be showing their ability to do that every week.

Now, do I think they'll win? No. But they certainly can. There's nothing "unbeatable" about that team.

This could honestly go either way the more I think about it. New Orleans is good but they aren't unbeatable. The about had a big time letdown against a bad Tampa team a couple weeks ago. Drew Brees is still human despite being a top 5 QB, and at this point we shouldn't be scared of him after facing Luck, and Ryan on consecutive weeks. Obviously is pays to create turnovers, so maybe we get the edge on that. If thats the case we can beat them.
I like Jelani Jenkins and Dion Jordan as replacements for Ellerbe, and Wake. They don't have the awareness or knowledge of the others but I can see both of them bringing it 110 on Monday night.
I honestly think the one guy that is going to kill us is Jimmy Graham. We have yet to stop a TE this year...Cameron, Fleener, Gonzalez have all hurt us and I think Jimmy Graham will do the same. How we defend him will determine the outcome of this game in my opinion.

Not quite. The Falcons game was a game I stated many times I really don't want to touch, as far as predicting outcomes (betting?) etc. There was a lot of uncertainty about that game due to fresh injuries on both sides, and I thought it was going to be a very tight one that comes down to who performs at the very end. I thought the Falcons were more likely to execute at the end like that, but I said it was a virtual coin flip.

I think the prediction of a Saints victory in their own house on Monday Night Football is a lot more solid, has a lot more solid foundation. There aren't as many fresh injuries for the Saints as there were the Falcons last week. The Dolphins have a significant fresh injury with Cameron Wake. Since Sean Payton and Drew Brees took over the Saints are 10-2 on MNF, outscoring opponents by an average of 32-20. They haven't lost a Monday Night Football game since October 6, 2008. They have the most dangerous tight end in football and Miami's weakness on defense this year has been tight ends. They also have a significant backup tight end which I feel could come into play because Miami's defense has tried their hardest to let up touchdowns to the #2 tight end in each of the last three games.

Real problem is, Ryan will have plenty of film on this year's offense and one of the weaknesses is blitzing and unaccounted blitzers..ie...our Rb's suck at picking up blitzes.

Something to be dealt with this game, let's see if Sherman recognizes this and changes things up.

    Realistic Expectations? Okay...

Expectation #1: Our offense is not banged up unlike the defense. They are closing out halves with points, usually when you can do that, you can remain competitive as long as you are minimizing your mistakes and winning in the redzone defensively.

Expectation #2: The Saints have Jimmy Graham, I expect them to actually take advantage of that redzone mismatch and actually capitalize for touchdowns unlike the Falcons. The Falcons who seemingly went away from Tony Gonzalez after he got knocked out (he did come back into the game but wasn't the same after that first drive). Not necessarily anything we did there... more like what the Falcons didn't do.

Expectation #3: Should the Dolphins lose, either by a close game or getting blown out, ESPN will ignore them after the game (of course prior to the game, we will be built up to a degree... are the Dolphins for real? How good are they? etc etc...). The Saints will be the second coming. And they will then anoint the Patriots the AFC East champions right there on the post game show, no matter what happens to NE on Sunday night vs the Falcons. Steve Young will proclaim Ryan Tannehill an average quarterback and that the Dolphins overspent in free agency in a short moment of recognition for our Dolphins.

I'll tell you one thing. The Saints are going to get Graham matched up with Miami's safeties and they had better be physical covering him. They're going to move him through zones whcih is where Miami got into trouble against both the Browns and Colts.

This will either be a chance for Reshad Jones to redeem himself, or to continue what is really shaping up to be a mediocre year.

Hi Phins - Saints fan here. I don't usually post on other teams' boards, that usually ends up coming off like a troll, but I do always check this board for anything Dolphins-related and really enjoy the discussions y'all have here. Classy and knowledgeable fans here for sure. I did want to say good luck on Monday, it seems that the few times we do play each other, the games are always tough. I always expect the Dolphins to play tough defense against us and I have been following Tannehill's progress - he looks great.

I think this sets up to be a very interesting game. The Saints are atypically playing defense and the Dolphins are atypically potent at offense. Who knew? I think there are more questions than answers coming into this game and those questions will determine the outcome. I quoted the above post because I don't think it's accurate - I presume you're referring to Freeman but he was 9 for 22 with 125 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. In fact, the Saints D only gave up 7 points in that game (the other TD was on a pick-six by the Bucs D). And only gave up 7 the following week to the Cards. I know, not really stout offenses, but holding any NFL team to 7 is very good. For the Saints, it's just kind of shocking.

Anyway, thanks for letting me lurk and get your inside knowledge when I need it for fantasy or whatnot. And here's to a good game Monday with no injuries.

I think we'd handle the Saints if we were healthy.

    But...

Tannehill, Wallace and Pouncey are all nicked, not to mention Binns and Keller. Matthews and Jerry still working their way back after TC setbacks.

Taylor, Davis, Patterson and Soliai are out on D, Wake, Ellerbe, Wheeler, and Clemons are nicked. Jordan still getting back to 100%.

My memory isn't the best but I don't remember ever having this many guys dinged up this early in the season.

    I realistically expect to win!!
Keep in mind the offense will play the 4th game as a group, I expect them to be better every game they play.
The Saints are good but they are not invincible.

I think you are being too tough on Reshad Jones. He's not the only one covering tight ends the first three games. There are other players who have had responsibility. So I think this is a chance for the whole secondary to redeem themselves vs tight ends.

Expect to lose; hope to win. It's by no means out of the realm of possibility. There are too many variables. Any number of thigs could happen to affect either team's effort.

Of course he's not the only one that has covered tight ends this year.

But he's been the most culpable of any single player thus far when it comes to that. He let up touchdowns to Gary Barnidge and Coby Fleener. He's had some other miscues including a really poor angle on another play Coby Fleener caught which allowed Coby to gain probably about 20 more yards than he should have. He also had a tough time against Julio Jones in this Atlanta game.

He's having a good year in run defense and he's been pretty good blitzing. But his coverage has been suspect and if he's not allowed to be criticized for the year he's having then I can only conclude he's off-limits and not allowed to be criticized for whatever reason, and I don't agree with that. Especially since he just got a big pay day.

This game is where Wallace really makes his mark. But also think Gibson, Hartline and Clay have big games. I'm expecting some big plays this week. I think the coaches know we need to put up alot of points in this game and I suspect we will. Even if we lose I think this shows the football world what we have in Ryan Tannehill and in this team. This game comes down to the last team with the ball with time to score. 35-31 Phins

They need to be competitive and show that they belong with a team like New Orleans, in primetime, on the road. They don't have to win to prove they belong with those teams. But, don't lose by more than 10 or make a ton of mistakes and turnovers, etc. Playing a tough game against a top team with an elite QB will be enough to make people realize they're a team who can win anytime and belong to be in playoff talk. If they get blown out it'll all be "eh, they're just pretenders like the 2012 Cardinals."

Of course, a win would be surprisingly monumental and send a big message. The Saints have only lost one Primetime game in the Superdome since 2008. But, I think even a close, exciting down to the wire game that Miami loses would send a message as well.

I'm not sure how you determined that the Dolphins were second best against the Falcons. The reality is that the Dolphins were actually favored beat the Falcons by the odds makers. So the Dolphins were not expected to be the second best team on the field last week by those who actually placed bets on the game.

This week, those same bettors have placed most of their money on the Saints and that is why the point spread has risen almost 2 points since the opening line. Obviously the Dolphins can win this game if they play their best game of the season. I just think that right now, the Saints are probably the better team, especially at home. I wish this game was being played later in the season when the team has had more time to play together. That isn't the case and therefore I just think this is going to be a very difficult game for them to win against one of the top teams in the NFL.

Did you watch the game last week? Did you see the final stats? Aside from the final TD drive, we were second best all game. In fact, until we went ahead at the end there, we were basically behind the whole game. Had the game ended just before Tannehill got the ball back in the final 4 mins, we would have lost and rightly so. We were behind 2-1 on the turnover score until Wilson's pick to end the game which put it at 2-2. We conceded 5 sacks and didn't bring down Ryan once. Sorry, but I can't see how you don't see that we were second best for basically the whole game.

Anyway, my point was that last week was an ugly win. But it was still a win. I believe we can and will play better on Monday night. Less missed tackles, a few sacks, hopefully Wallace has a big game and Tanny builds on his ATL performance. It's gonna be a shootout but I think we'll pull it off. We've been written off from the start and it's added fuel to the fire. Why stop now? It's the upside and the potential we have (that we haven't yet seen) that I'm most excited about. If we lose, let's go down fighting. The Saints are one of the better teams for sure, but they haven't played a defense like ours yet. They beat the Falcons who I'd say are on their level, but then TB and Arizona. And they also haven't played against the best red-zone offense int the NFL either!

I guess I'm not terrified of their defense. Done very well against mediocre offenses. Rob Ryan is obviously a capable DC, but he runs a complicated D and it takes time to implement. Gave the Cowpatties fits last year, they never did get it. I think our O can score, but Brees is scary. Too many weapons.

Realistic expectations?! You want it? I was waiting till gameday thread but here we go.....

We win. We win by 4+.

    Miami 31

    NO - 24

Why? I live in Charlotte NC. I see every year the Saints **** the bed against an opponent it shouldnt lose too. But they do. The Panthers happen to take advantage of that once a year sometimes.....but usually its someone else. Regardless, I don't think we are a team the Saints "should" beat. We are good enough to be 3-0 and we're good enough to be talked about as such.

The saints have trouble against defenses that punch them in the ****ing mouth. The Saints like when teams sit back and say "oh no its the saints, they throw it a lot lets not get beat by colston and graham".....and then they get beat by colston and graham.

They get beat by the defenses that go balls to the wall, punch them in the birth-marked face and **** in their cereal. The Miami Dolphins can and will do that. I expect Ellerbe to have a sack or 2. I expect a few forced "wtf" throws by Brees (due to pressure)...and I expect a win.

Its going to happen. I havent been wrong yet. Book it.

Also stop being such "pump the brake" fans. We beat 2 playoff teams already. We beat a team that was "this" close to the Super Bowl last year. We aren't 7-9 anymore. We deserve to feel good. So feel good.
