I hope you are right in regards to them not coming out flat this week. I hope you are wrong about the poor attendance at this weeks game, but unfortunately you are probably correct that there will be far too many empty seats this week.

I understand that the South Florida community is all about winners and that is all they will turn out for in large numbers, but that is one thing I won't miss when I move out of South Florida.

I really thought the Dolphins had a chance in catching the Patriots this year. The Pats should have lost 3 more games so far this year. The Saints, the Jets and even the Bills all should have been losses and yet they still won. There are not going to be too many chances like that.

God how I hate Bill Belichik and Tom Brady! I can't stand Rob Ryan either, I think he's overrated as a DC, but even the look on his face said it all with :06 left in the game.

Two divisional games coming up next. I don't care if we lose to Cincinnati, but we NEED both the Buffalo & New England to take the lead in the AFC East. The Patriots have been exposed. They are NOT "your father's" Patriots, but I'll be damned if they don't seem to find a way to win!

If we come out of the bye winning both Buffalo and New England, then the hype in my opinion is real. If we split or lose both against Buffalo/New England, at best we'll be a 9-7 team on the season.

Well if they end up trading for Nicks and get Gronk back, it's not going to be easy. I hope to win but our defense has exposed themselves the past 2 games.

Last night I was talking to an old friend of mine who I used to go to Dolphin games with back in the 1970's and until he and his wife moved to North Carolina in 1992. We were discussing the Dolphins and I told him how frustrating it is that fans would be happy if the Dolphins just have a winning season this year.

In discussing this with my friend, I came to realize how fortunate I was to be a Dolphin fan from the very beginning. I was there in the stadium when Joe Auer returned the very first kickoff in Miami Dolphin history for a TD. I even got to see Flipper celebrate this TD.

I saw the Dolphins go from an expansion AFL franchise to the best NFL team in football in six years. I was also fortunate enough to see the Dolphins play in 5 Super Bowls between 1972 and 1985, winning two of these Super Bowl games, including the 1973 SB which concluded the only perfect season in NFL history. So in many ways, the early years of the Dolphins and the success they had, has made it more difficult for me to accept the mediocre play of the Dolphins over the past decade or more.

My friend reminded me it has been 28 years since a Dolphin team has been in a SB. That means that there are probably very few fans on this forum and certainly no fans in their early 30's or younger who have ever experienced the highs of seeing your team in the Super Bowl that I have had the good fortune to experience 5 different times. So I guess for those individuals, just having a winning season or getting to the first round of the playoffs is probably enough.

I'll admit that it will never be enough for me, but I'm also spoiled by the early success of the Dolphins. My hope for all Dolphin fans is that you will all get the experience of seeing this team reach the Super Bowl and hopefully win one in the future. Right now a winning season will probably satisfy a large percentage of you, but I assure you that once the Dolphins win another SB, you will never be completely satisfied with a mediocre to decent team again.

I've remained a fan through the down years and I will always be a Dolphin fan, but I will also always be a fan who feels that a good season is only a season where you get to the SB and a great season is when your team wins the SB. Every other season ends up a disappointment in one way or another.

I like Lamar Miller. I like Reggie Bush. We are a better team with him on it.

But we can also improve if we commit a god darn run game.

All this talk about Reggie not fitting our scheme. Turns out our scheme was 11 runs a game. Yeah he doesn't fit it!

I know there was talk about Reggie indicating pass or run because he wasn't a good pass blocker. Is DT or LM any better this year? Serious question as I don't have PFF.

They have Bush rated better than both but he's only pass blocked 10 times. Thomas has 39 attempts and Miller 37.

but then again that was part of the problem IMO. He's only pass blocked 10 times in Detroit b/c they appropriately put his ability as a receiver to use. They're moving him all around the field and are getting him involved in the screen game. He's got 20 catches, 261 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 20+ in just 4 and 1/4 games. That's what he did in 16 games in Miami [292 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 2 20+]. If you watch how Detroit makes an effort to get him the ball in space and then compare that to Miami's effort last year, you come away feeling appalled.

It seems like we're repeating that theme to a degree with Mike Wallace. IMO the level of creativity seen in Philbin's Green Bay offense isn't showing up the same in ours.

I remember talk of Philbin being an offensive genius but I have yet to see it.

Not saying I'm a guru and I study every play on coaches tape. But it doesn't pass my sniff test.

While Philbin was the so called offensive coordinator during the week, he wasn't the person calling the plays during the game. That responsibility belonged to the head coach Mike McCarthy. I believe McCarthy was behind the creativity of the Packers offense and not Philbin. That has been shown by the overall lack of creativity of the Dolphins offense since Philbin took over as the teams HC.

I don't know if Philbin will eventually turn out to be a good NFL HC or not, but based on what I have seen over the 21 games he has been the teams head coach. He certainly can't be considered an offensive genius at this stage of his head coaching career. It was obvious last year that neither he or Sherman had a clue how to get Bush more involved in the passing game.

The Saints and Lions figured out that it is imperative to give Bush a big role in the passing game but neither Sparano or Philbin ever figured this out. Creative head coaches always figure out a way to best utilize the personnel on their team. Philbin still has a long way to go before he reaches this level as an NFL HC.

Are you saying Philbin didn't design and implement Green Bay's playbook?

Chargers. They're perennial losers. We've already beaten the Colts and they'll be a playoff team.

I am saying he didn't call the plays on game day and I am sure McCarthy had a great deal of input on the playbook each week. If he is the offensive genius we were led to believe he is, I'm still waiting to see it with the Dolphins. That is all I am saying.

Scientists have yet to design a play that does not require execution. Stay tuned though. It's coming.

They really need to deal Rivers to a team that is serious about winning... Put him on Arizona or something, I don't know.

I get that. And all I'm saying is McCarthy couldn't call any play that Philbin hadn't first designed up and put it in the playbook.

I always considered Rivers part of their problem. Maybe just my perception of him, but the few times he has led them to the playoffs, he seems to play poorly and has more playoff INTs and fumbles than TDs...

For all I know you were sitting right next to me because I was there for that opening kickoff too. And there was a crazy dolphin named Flipper doing his thing down at the open end zone in the awesome Orange Bowl. I can pretty much echo everything you stated. We had many, many years of excellence with this team back then. I guess we've been paying for it over the past 15 years or so. But the dues must be payed by now, so I'm ready for the upswing. I would love to see one more Super Bowl win. As you said, when you experienced what we did in the 70's, nothing short of that will do.

To be fair, Tyrann Mathieu in Miami might have been different than Tyrann Mathieu in Arizona.

Or his play is just forcing me to think this way.

Everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt that they would grow up, Matthieu with the talent he has, should have been a first round pick, the rest of the NFL is stupid for letting him drop that low.

To be fair, some of the people arguing with you said he wouldn't be a good cornerback in the NFL, and seeing how he doesn't play that position they aren't proven wrong. :tongue2:

Highly disagree. A lot of times these players don't grow up. Sometimes it is the shock of falling that causes them to grow up.

Dammit to Betsy, I have Luck & Wayne on my fantasy team and needed just an average combined game from them to seal a win after getting a donut from Jimmy Graham, but nooooo, Wayne's gotta drop a few passes and Luck has to throw a 4th qtr INT for negative points. :pity:

I've gotta be the only GM with a losing record [2-4] who is leading his league in points. I keep running into opponents who happen to score a league high in points for the week or season.

IMO the question on Matthieu was about addiction not talent or even growing up (although he obviously needed that to). He landed in a perfect situation with a player he respected in Peterson, but even then the odds of him staying clean or even having an extensive career with Zona are long. I wouldn't have considered him even in the fifth round if I didn't have some reason to believe that he'd be different on my team than he'd been on LSU. Otherwise you'd expect he'd be the same. I liked his talent as an off ball secondary player. You'd expect that he'd have success with his play making ability early and then after that success for him to relapse. Even in Zona I would say the odds of him making it through his rookie contract without problems are poor. Nothing he's done so far has surprised me. What would surprise me is if he makes it through his rookie contract without a relapse.

I'm not trying to be petty, Raf, but you can't get addicted, in a biological sense, to pot. You can, however, be mentally and psychologically dependent on it.
