are we the only team in teh NFL that doesn't have any draft picks contributing in the top 4 rounds?

I know DJ is playing well but sorry 17 snaps avg for a #3 pick DE is pathetic. THis guy isn't a QB or WR that takes a long time to learn the game, its mainly injury related I'd assume.

so forcing a quarterback to throw a pick in the closing seconds of a football game and thus stopping an opponent is not considered contributing?

Expectations for Jordan are higher for some fans than others. He missed virtually whole of preseason. Thats a big miss and valuable time lost for a lot of rookies.

No? It's not particularly noteworthy. They've not relied on any of their draft picks as starters yet, but they've gotten pretty solid performances out of Jordan and Jenkins early.

He better 15 sacks, half for strip, and a couple of ints including a pick six. Otherwise bust.

Did I mention at least one td catch at te?

They made no secret they were going to bring Jordan along slowly, in part due to his needing more bulk, and his shoulder issues did nothing more than push his learning curve back some.

Hopefully Taylor can contribute more as the season wears on. As for Thomas, he looks like he has a long way to go, so the criticism isn't invalid there. Davis? I've got no clue. He was promising at times in pre-season but can't get active on game days even though he appears to be healthy now. Even more annoying when you see an undrafted rookie in Buffalo's secondary not only playing but returning a pick for a score.

Sims did catch a GW pass, but he should be used more imo. Tanny also missed him on 3rd Sunday choosing instead to throw it away in the direction of Miller

Lets say, outside of DJ as I SAID CLEARLY, who the hell has contributed? Sims has that 1 nice grab, taylor cna't play still, davis can't, thomas can't even outperform our pathetic linemen, DJ only can play 17 snaps for a TOP 3 PICK!

You don't think that is hindering a team like ours that needed SO MANY HOLES filled this offseason? A team that has so much depth at CB now you wonder why on earth we didn't use 1 of the picks else where instead?

A team that can't afford to be without players contributing bc our coaching nor our team is that good.

Here are the average snap counts on a per game basis, just FYI:

    DE Dion Jordan: 21 snaps
    CB Jamar Taylor: 7 snaps
    OT Dallas Thomas: 0 snaps
    CB Will Davis: 0 snaps
    LB Jelani Jenkins: 12 snaps
    TE Dion Sims: 17 snaps
    RB Mike Gillislee: 0 snaps
PK Caleb Sturgis: STs - Active
SS Don Jones: STs - Active

So we've got two players very active on special teams but not with any role on offense or defense. Otherwise we have a total of about 57 or 58 snaps per game on offense/defense from our rookies.

I think it's fair to point out that Dion Jordan has disappointed thus far by only claiming one sack through six games, with that sack being what I think we all recognize as one where the QB kind of scrambled out of the pocket right into him.

But at the same time, you have to acknowledge that we're talking about 14 pressures on only 88 pass rush reps. His lack of impact is in many ways highly self-inflicted, IMO. It reminds me a LOT of the situation in 2009 with Cameron Wake only playing 167 snaps all year because Paul Pasqualoni was in love with his combination of Jason Taylor and Joey Porter.

On the one hand, Jordan is pacing for pretty much twice the amount of work Cam Wake had that year. On the other hand, it's still not enough, compared to the talent he's shown at times. Get him on the field and you're going to get more of those potentially game-changing plays like the one where he scraped the football as Joe Flacco threw it, leading to an easily intercepted rainbow shot that gave us a touchdown.

I wanna see Gillisee get some touches. Miller is too small to pass block and Thomas sucks at pass blocking and isn't a threat catching. Maybe a gillisee who's a mix of both could be a better 3rd down back. I'm very happy with Jordan tho, in limited rushes he's gotten some serious pressure and forced both picks from luck and flacco. Sometimes he's in on d and he covers as well and I haven't really heard his name called for giving up a big play. Just because he hasn't had a ton of sacks and ints doesn't mean he's not playing well. Sometimes on d it's the little things that go unmentioned and uncredited for that are the differences in games. As for our two corners, Davis hasn't seen the field and Taylor has been eh (gave up a td to graham but if u look it was pretty tight coverage just perfect throw and catch with lack of safety help. But even first round cb's get burnt so don't give up hope.

So point proven, our rookies are NOT contributing for a team that needs LOTS and LOTS of help.

I envy Fireland, fail at your job, be pathetic, make millions in the process, then be just as pathetic, spend someone else's MILLLLIONS, then get another extension.

    What a life.

This whole idea that Jordan and the other top drafted rookies need to be brought along slowly is basically crap. There are rookies throughout the league who are starters for their teams and many of them are major contributors. The Bills in fact have the leading tackler in the NFL playing one of their LB positions. His name is Kiko Alonso and he already had four interceptions this season. He was also only a second round draft pick for the Bills.

The Dolphins had far too many holes to fill to be drafting players which needed to be brought along slowly. Especially the 3rd overall pick in the entire 2013 draft.

The Jets have four rookies in their starting line from the 2013 draft. It is completely ridiculous that Ireland once again screwed up a draft and provided no immediate starters from a draft class that there was so much hype about after the draft. The only starter from the 2013 draft has been Sturgis, a kicker, and he has missed his last two FG attempts. Once again, Ireland showed that when it comes to selecting players in the NFL draft, he has no clue what he is doing.

Jordan has made two significant plays so far this season. Yet the Dolphins have played six games and if these two plays are all he has to show for the season so far. That just isn't enough for a the first overall defensive player taken in the draft.

By the time he puts on the weight and bulks up enough to become a starter for this team, the coaches and GM wanting to bring him and the other rookies along slowly, probably won't be with the Dolphins any longer.

I have no idea why Ireland supporters can't yet accept that he just isn't the right man for the job. I have always felt that a lot of this support for Ireland came from individuals on this forum who are actually fans of other teams in the AFC East, who pretend to be Dolphin fans. I can understand why they would love to see Ireland remain as the Dolphins GM. What I can't understand is how any real fan of the Dolphins would want Ireland as this teams GM.

Imagine how easy his life was prior to Parcells leaving. Had nothing on his plate, nothing to be blamed for. He's the General Manager version of Matt Cassel.

He was basically Parcells kid going along wherever daddy took him, only difference was, he got paid VERY VERY HANDSOMELY for it.

Except unlike Cassel, he was actually doing work and calling shots when he was supposedly on the bench...he just wasn't being blamed for anything.

Now just like Cassel he has a chance to stand on his own two feet and as we get further along there's a realization that he just kinda isn't that good at his job.

    It never ends.

So I'm going to do the same thing you guys are doing from now on.....Sparano & Parcells had nothing to do with the team sucking back in the day, it was only Ireland. I guess Parcells and Sparano just got Ireland coffee.

At some point, the intellectually sound thing to do would be to figure out how much a rookie should be contributing before we have a thread full of complaints on how the rookies have contributed.

You've got maybe 3-4 guys total in the league who are playing like high quality starters. At this point, I'm not sure who you are identifying as a clear winner at this point besides Star Lotulelei, Sheldon Richardson, and maybe Tyrann Mathieu and the Chargers WR whose name escapes me. There are loads of other stories of guys who are getting on the field and looking good, or at least competent in limited roles, which we've got.

Seriously, those of you who are suggesting this is a bad draft at this point are doing so entirely on the basis of you wanting to do so, not any sort of clearly defined argument involving facts. I at some level understand at least the psychology behind the concern-troll columnist song and dance, but some of this is borderline hysterical or jumping at a chance to grind the same old ax.

You know what is really freaking me out is that our poster DJ (not Dion Jordan) was vocal, pounding the table in his support for Sheldon Richardson and Tyrann Mathieu (I think??) before the draft.

Add that to his big love for Kaepernick and Russell Wilson above all the other Qbs and I am starting to think DJ has a divining rod for talent.

    DJ as GM?

And Disgustipate, I agree... my first thought entering this thread was, "What are you using as your benchmark to rate Jordan's contributions as a rookie?"

Something that stands out as well, is that Jamar Taylor had health concerns which could have given you a clue he may be more at risk to get nicked up or miss time.... which has borne out.

In fact, we 'plumped' (to use a Sion word... man I miss him around here) for some damaged goods in the free agent signings too.

    But
    1) This is a draft thread
    2) I was complicit in liking the signings at the time, greedily looking at the upside, best-case bargain scenario and crossing my fingers on avoiding the downside. Didn't work out that way on many guys.

On Clabo, we heard his injuries had robbed him of his physical ability. Turned out to be true.

On Taylor we heard he may be more susceptible to physical frailties. Turned out to be true.

Keller had some concerns (not well founded, imo) and he did get injured. I ascribe that to a really bad hit by Swearinger, not being injury-prone though.

Dmitri Patterson and Marshall were already both walking injury report charts... and that bore out to be true for the one we kept... and with Taylor unable to replace him (maybe if your starter is injury prone, draft someone who isn't higher-risk in Taylor).

To be fair... we did double up at CB with Davis too. But I think Davis had injury question marks too didn't he? M

We DID get lucky (so far) on Grimes in terms of injury.

Wallace had a rep of being a limited route tree guy and not only that, but a poor technician entering an offensive sceme that depending on good technical routes and timing... which has borne out in terms of how he has underperformed here.

Not a strong showing thus far.

Jordan Reed would be a nice weapon to have right now...we were gonna draft him but then decided it was better to trade down out of the 3rd round SMH

it really is astonishing how often this franchise passes on impact players in the draft for average to below average guys.

Six games is a pretty small sample. Give it the season. And it's really easy to cherry pick rookie success stories elsewhere.

I'm not a huge Ireland fan....but I do think its unfair to judge a rookie class 6 games into the 1st season. You can't truly judge drafts until 2-3 years down the road its not fair to do otherwise. I would have loved to see a big impact from our rookies but it isn't happening, its not great but its not a reason to trash them. Fans that dump on young players are kind f stupid and annoying, I mean watch some football and learn something. It isn't constructive to dump on rookies, give them some time.

Just because the rookies are getting limited snaps, doesn't mean they don't deserve more either. For all Ireland's faults in player acquisition, he still doesn't determine who plays or how much (as far as we know).
