It's been confirmed that Farrell said he wanted to get WMB warmed up before he entered the game for defense in the 9th, hence why he used him as a pinch runner instead of Berry.

Ok I hope the Sox win, but it's going to be a long one at this rate. 1 hour in and were not through 2 yet.

I am pretty pumped up right now. Another game were they wear out the starter and take advantage of the bullpen.

Xander looks like an absolute stud at the plate. Amazing discipline and when he is taking his cuts he is producing.

Gomes with an army helmet with GoPro attached should be good stuff.

    On to the World Series.

    Thanks.

Nice! Too bad he didn't catch it. Must have been awesome to be in those Monster Seats when it landed.

The AL hasn't won the WS since 2009? Wow. I didn't even cross my mind. I think the Sox have a good chance to win it all. Cardinals are a good team though. I can see this series going 6 or 7. The key like always is to get the SPers out of the game early, unfortunately the Cards' pen is a bit better than Detroit.

Definitely are. They're a good solid all around franchise, well run too. I don't think anyone is writing them off what so ever. I wouldn't be surprised if they won the World Series this year either, the two teams are pretty well balanced. I really think the key to the series will be in Games 3 & 4 with the starting pitchers of Buchholz, Peavy, Lynn and Kelly. All 4 of them are complete wild cards in terms of no one knows how they will perform as none of them have been lights out in the playoffs yet.

Well, usually it comes down to which pitchers have their A games going on any given night, which is nearly impossible to predict.

Yeah and to think Scherzer and Verlander were freaking unreal in the ALCS and the Tigers still lost all 3 of those games while Lester and Wainwright pitched great in the LCS and lost 1-0 games so sometimes even when the SPers have their A games you can still get the L.

Should be interesting to see how the Cardinals deal with the Sox deep line up, they probably never faced hitters with the Sox approach in the NL. Especially guys like Lynn and Kelly who haven't thrown even 90 pitches in a playoff start, it's possible they'll be out of the game by the 4th inning even if they're pitching well.

If the Cards bullpen is any decent I think this series has a chance to go 7......

Hell the ACLS should have went 7.....The Tigers had no business losing Game 2....

On paper the Cardinals pen is much better than Detroit, the problem is the Cardinal's starting rotation isn't as good as the Tigers so its a bit of a catch 22 where the Sox might/could beat up the SPers so the pen won't even be a factor.

I expect this WS to go 6 or 7 games just because the two teams are well matched.

The Cards seem to be hitting more consistently than the Tigers did this October....could be that they faced lesser pitching? Maybe but they just did pretty well against some really good pitchers.....

Whats the deal with Buchloz?? Hearing injured but will give it a go....

    Tigers in the ALCS .254/.329/.330/.659
    Tigers in the ALDS .235/.299/.321/.620

    Cardinals in the NLCS .211/.277/.302/.579
    Cardinals in the NLDS .209/.294/.354/.648

    For comparison sake:
Red Sox in the ALCS .202/.377/.332/.609
Red Sox in the ALDS .286/.390/.414/.803

Buchholz is on the 25 man WS roster so I assume he's good to go. Of course he hasn't been the same pitcher since he got hurt in June. It's a worry for sure.

There is no way the Sox had a .377 OBP in the ALCS......no way.....

I meant pitching more consistently hahahahah (I didn't just trying to save face) Mainly because the ONLY Cards game I watched was the last one against Kershaw when they scored 9.....oh well...

Wow what a huge call in the 1st.

What a catch by Beltran. Amazing start to this game.

The Sox certainly made a statement last night and man did St. Louis looked absolutely shellshocked. Lester was on freaking fire, making huge pitches when he needed too and never giving in. Just a great all around team effort last night. Hopefully the bats keep it up (had Wainwright at 60 pitches after the 2nd inning) and Lackey comes up huge.

    3 more wins to go....

I was actually shocked the umps overturned that call in the 1st, which I have no clue how the ump could have blown that, he was right there. But in the end they got the call right.

If Beltran can't play in this series or has to miss a game or so it's obviously a huge blow to the Cards.

Yeah it was pretty awful, especially since it wasn't a bang/bang play and the play itself was 5 feet from him. There's no excuse to mess that one up. I'm just glad the umps got together and made the correct call in the end because it could have been a game changer.

Oh well thankfully by next year we'll finally have a replay system in place to correct this stuff.

Cardinals are a very good team with a very good line up, they scored the 3rd most runs in baseball (were first in the NL). Lester was simply on his game last night and completely shut them down. The errors really shouldn't be a surprise, well maybe the volume of them, since they are a very poor defensive team but as I mentioned earlier they looked shellshocked and a bit overmatched. Of course that tends to happen when you're making the SPer throw 60 pitches in 2 innings and their best player gets taken out of a game because of injury.

I think you're going to see a different team tonight and for the rest of the series, although I hope I'm wrong with that statement.

    Interesting stat from this article:

    http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/b...night-jon-lester-might-have-officially-found-

In his fifth Game 1, Lester threw 7 2/3 shutout innings, striking out eight and walking just one. What it did was lower his ERA as a postseason starter to 2.07, the third-best among the 60 pitchers who have 10 or more starts in the playoffs. He has now passed Curt Schilling (2.23 ERA), and only resides behind Christy Mathewson (0.97) and Waite Hoyt (1.85).

Of course Tyler Melling has a different take on it.....pretty ballsy from a minor leaguer I would say....
