After this last game the number of people starting to doubt Tannehill's legitimacy as a franchise QB went up drastically by the look of things.
Let's say we finish the season with yet another 7-9 record, miss the playoffs and Tannehill posts around his current projected stats which are:

    60% Completion/ 4050 Passing Yards / 25 TDs / 21 Int / 18 Fumbles/ 80 QBR

If you were GM of this franchise would you draft a QB in next year's draft if we finished in the top 15 picks?

I personally would give him another year under a better O-line and bigger playmakers at the WR and RB positions and see how he fares with another season under his belt. In other words I'd focus the draft on fixing the OL and adding players with big play potential on offense and overall depth on both sides of the ball. I don't know the strength of next year's QB class as I don't follow college football so I wouldn't know if picking up a QB this year would be a good move, so it would be good to know everyone's opinion to get a better sense of what people are thinking about RT17 and next year's QB draft class.

I would draft around Tannehill, so draft him some protection.

If there is a QB available that grades high enough, they absolutely should. Tannehill has shown to be an average QB at this point, but thats not really something to hitch your wagon to. Setting out with the goal of drafting a particular position is a pretty bad strategy though. I'm not really sure how this class looks, but that should play a big factor.

I'd draft a QB every year somewhere in the top three rounds until we find one that works. I wouldn't cut Tannehill just because we draft a new QB though.

Those projected numbers are pretty good IMO. 4000 yds and 25 tds aint no joke. The fumbles are the concerning part but that comes from protection. From a second year guy with as little experience as thill, I think those stats would be greatly encouraging.

Especially cause his big money #1 wr sucks dick

Yeah, and I think the number of fumbles will likely be below the projected 18 after McKinney gets more comfortable with the offense and Martin gets used to playing on the right side.

I've seen enough to know what we got in Tannehill isn't that much better than Henne or Sanchez. Get Aaron Murray.

I don't think changing Tannehill is at all a realistic, or good move at this point, or for any reason this year other than a huge breakdown.

In my opinion the best possible option for fixing the situation we are in is getting Ryan Tannehill better coaching.

    I would not.

I would fix the offensive line. If we protect Tannehill, where has he shown that he isnt a franchise QB? I mean ..look back at his play. During the first half, Tannehill was amazing. Tannehill falls apart under extreme pressure. But guess what, hes a second year QB. If you watched every single one of his dropbacks this season....which thanks to a member of the forum, we have been able to do, your CRAZY, to worry about the QB position next season. Fix the Oline...and maybe a new OC.

We are not far away at all. Blow it all up like some are saying to do....thats just absurd.

He was far from amazing. 6 minutes left in the game and Philbin is losing his GOD DAMN MIND and every hair left of his head is falling out SCREAMING ON THE FIELD "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, HURRY THE **** UP". And you know who that's directed to, that's on the slow paced quarterback Tannehill. He's the one who should be aware that we're playing against the clock and you have to get your troops lined up in time. You can see the frustration of Philbin's face that there is no urgency from the quarterback despite being down by two scores.

What's even more troubling is that Tannehill is always looking to the sidelines for a play, he can't call his own plays, he's just folding.

The problem with Tannehill is that he lacks awareness and instincts needed to play that position at a high level. He also stares down his receivers naked, I'm not sure those problems can be fixed.

I voted to draft someone on the 3rd day. Matt Moore's only under contract for one more season, and I don't think you can trust Pat Devlin to do much of anything if he were ever pressed into game action. At least draft a developmental guy.

I agree with Disgustipate and those that say that Tannehill needs better coaching. I don't know what, if anything, Zac Taylor really brings to the table and Mike Sherman's primary coaching tenure saw him with arguably the most unorthodox QB to ever play the game to that point in Brett Favre. I think it's pretty clear Mike McCarthy is the one pulling the developmental strings on Aaron Rodgers and others in Green Bay.

If he can't hit the open receiver under pressure, he'll see blitz after blitz his whole career. It's happened before to many a failed NFL QB.

I've heard that way too many times before to believe it anymore, going all the way back to Wanny. If you have the wrong GM and the wrong coaches , you are ALWAYS that far away.

I voted yes for day 3, but I'm a fan of drafting a QB regardless. Between Moore and Devlin, someone should be cycled out, and new blood should be cycled in. You should always have a developmental guy in the wings (personally, I think Devlin has had his chance).

I tend to agree with this and I'm not sure what coaching is going to make a difference. RT shows almost no feel for where the rush is coming from or where to go when it happens. For a guy with his athletic ability he seems to have slow feet in the pocket.

I think some guys just have this innate ability and others don't. Sure, if we had an all world oline and RT rarely faced pressure then he's be great, but that is unrealistic.

Look at Johnny Manziel. I have no idea if he can be succesful in the NFL at his size but he is a guy who has innate pocket presence. He knows when to move and more importantly where to move in order to keep the play alive the longest amount of time.

The thing is, Tannehill has shown this ability before. We've seen him escape from the pocket in college, and seen him do it professionally. He's done it remarkably well in the past at times.

Hell, I'd say he's shown remarkable ability to do it at times this year, but basically only in situations where he can't live to fight another down- Like final drives vs. Baltimore, and in other circumstances.

I think the coaching staff is really pushing him not to bail on plays and stay in the pocket and keep his eyes down the field, perhaps with the idea of utilizing Wallace.

I'm sure they are pushing him, but rightfully so IMO. Even in the instances where he is able to move around the pocket, he still does a poor job of resetting his eyes quickly. Its not so much about escaping the pocket, as it is moving within the pocket while maintaining his eye level.

Honestly I'm so fed up with the coaching and Ireland, when I move to Asheville, NC in January, I may have to look into cheering for the Panthers. I am that sick and tired of this team pretending to be contending, and inability to get a decent GM or HC in here, while I can't imagine ever not being a Dolphin fan, honestly it's really more the fact I can't imagine ever leaving thePhins.com and my family here. If it weren't for all my friends and family here, I'd be a Panthers fan the second I arrive in Asheville. I am seriously that fed up with this team right now!

I would have trouble cheering for another NFL team. I've honestly enjoyed college football a lot more over the past several years than I have NFL football because the Dolphins have just been so bad and looks to never turn it around, and I don't really have a horse in the race in college.

Remember when the Cardinals and Detroit was pretty much the joke of the NFL? Yeah, now it's us.

If there is value there yes. You don't pass on Dan Marino because you have David Woodley.

And if you play it smart, you can leverage the two QBs. Unlike AJ Smith whose arrogance prevented him from cashing in on buy high players (Brees, Michael Turner), if you have a Brees and a Rivers, that's a good problem to have. That's how valuable QBs are.

At least you have that option once you move. My wife and I are going to be moving to Maui, Hawaii after the first of the year. So I will be living nearly 3000 miles from the nearest NFL football team.
I have also been a fan of the Dolphins since 1966, so I don't see me changing teams after all those years.

I just hope that no longer spending thousands of dollars a year on season tickets and flying to at least one away game a year will probably allow me the opportunity to just watch the games on TV and no longer get upset about all the money I have wasted on this team in recent years. I've had the pleasure of seeing this organization be the best in the NFL in the past. So for me it hasn't always been as bad for me as it has been for those who have only been fans for the past 20-25 years. Hopefully one day these fans will get to experience the joys of success and not the aggravation of mediocrity this team seems to be stuck in.

I'm with you JW, I have been with them since I was a kid - my 1st Dolphin game was Griese's 1st start in 1967 vs the Broncos in the Orange Bowl. We got the tickets for $ 5 a piece when we bought groceries at Kwik-Check (later Winn-Dixie) of more than $ 25 (yes in 1967 a weekly food bill for a family of 4 was $ 25-30).

I'm never going to leave them, but it's not the same as it used to be. I rarely get those "butterflies" in my stomach starting a couple of days before the game. I watch the games from start to finish, out of loyalty not because its edge of your seat entertainment. While the rest of the league is tearing it up, for the umpteenth time since Marino retired it looks like we will be in the bottom 1/3 of the league in offense. While we always hear from experts and of course the blind homers on this board that we have "great defensive talent" it always just seems that they break your heart right when they need to hold the most.

Is there hope for the future ? I only think that will happen once this owner is fed up and wants to sell (which I hope is soon). Once again Ross picked a "baseball guy" to run the organization, and one with zero ties to South Florida, or the pulse on which it runs. Mike Dee was a disaster from the get-go and it showed on the field, and of course in ticket sales. He was overwhelmed by the job, and I'm afraid this new guy will be too. Ross talks a good game about his "love" of the franchise and his "respect" of its history, yet most of his actions were almost completely the opposite. He took away our fight song, he put in orange carpets, and "disco clubs", asked the league to change the starting times from Sept 1pm games, and brought in "celebrity owners", all things that just scream NO NO NO to someone like Don Shula.

Greatness I think will only return to this franchise when we get someone who is from South Florida, cares about South Florida and most of all LIVES HERE FULL TIME. We need to have local ownership with ties to the South Florida business community and who knows and lives our history, and truly does respect it.

I don't know what aggravates me more, the hometown referees stacking penalties against the Dolphins in yesterday's loss or the "oh no we need to draft another quarterback" thread"

Here are the only stats you need look at...

261 pass plays versus 151 rushing plays.

That's not balance. Miami has not committed to the run regularly, but when they do, they dominate! The first half of yesterday's game, Miami ran the football down New England's throat, playing smash mouth football, keeping the clock running, Brady off the field and New England netted on 59 first half yards. In the second half, we abandon the run due to New England's two quick scores and as a result, Tannehill was sacked 6 times...in the second half of the game and New England netted nearly 200 second half yards! Tannehill wasn't sacked at all in the first half, but once we took the rock away from Miller and Thomas and decided to play "Steamin' Willie Beamin", Tannehill was running for his life! That's poor coaching and play calling from Mike Sherman!

YOU MUST HAVE BALANCE TO WIN!!!!

    32 Sacks Thus Far...

One can scream all they want about quarterback, quarterback, quarterback...but if your quarterback has been sacked 32 times in 7 games (that's a whopping 4 1/2 sack average per game) I don't care who you're quarterback is, he's not going to make plays. Tannehill has had 17 fumbles as a result of being sacked from the blindside this season and sadly, has had a pick 6 in each game this season as a result of being hurried. Draft a new quarterback? How about draft an entirely new offensive line instead???

    Offensive line is the cornerstone

When you build a house, you don't build your walls or your roof with the fancy chimney, nor the decorative fireplace nor the fancy pool with jacuzzi first. You build the foundation first in which you can build all of the elements of your house and it won't fall apart without a strong base to rest upon. The same goes for a football team. Your offensive line is the cornerstone of ANY team. Without a strong offensive line, holes are opened and your running backs can't run the ball. Without a strong offensive line, your quarterback has no time to set to throw the ball and is hurried, knocked down every pass play or sacked several times a game.

We have skill players. We have good quality players at the QB position, at RB, at WR and even with the loss of Keller during the preseason, at the TE position as well. We have a fancy house that was built without a foundation and the walls, roof, chimney, decorative fireplace, pool and jacuzzi are starting to crumble...because it was built on no foundation.

This offseason, it's time for Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland to crack open the checkbook and get a juggernaut offensive line in here that can block, bottom line!

I voted drafting a qb in day one . what some fans are getting is that Tannehill was horrible at Texas A&M and Sherman was even worse . so if most fans in Texas can honestly see that Tannehill isn't a good qb why would a fan base like Miami close their eyes and pretend that R.T. is going to be a stud when he didn't play well at the college level ?

I say fire the oline coach , wr coach , the O.C and Philbin and get someone who can make our players better instead of watching our players go to another team and have pro bowl careers.

Tough call. I think it's always got to come back to who is available and at what price.

If Teddy Bridgewater is available for some reason, yeah I'll damn well think about it just long enough to get my pen out of my pocket and write his name on the card.

After that, that's when things are getting awful dicey. Tajh Boyd, Zach Mettenberger, Jimmy Garoppolo...those are kind of cost-benefit analyses that depend on the price tag.

As for why they won't see it...homerism. I love the Dolphins, but I won't pretend they're better than they are just to make myself feel better. They are what they are, and when they show they're something better than that, I'll feel better about them.

You're highlighting a problem with the coaching staff, not Tannehilll. He's looking at the sidelines for a play because they haven't gotten him one. Sherman runs the offense, not Tannehill. That's not unique or special.

No it's not. That's a BAD example. The Chargers rushed the gun on replacing Brees and it cost them a HOF QB and possibly a SB or two.

San Diego netted a 3rd round compensation pick for Brees. That's not a return on their high 2nd round investment, nor worth the high 1st rounder they spent on Rivers. Had the Chargers not jumped the gun, they could've either used the #1 pick on Larry Fitz to bolster an offense that featured Tomlinson & Gates or they could've made the trade with the Giants for an extra 1st rounder and then drafted Sean Taylor #4 overall to fill their void at safety. Incidentally, Taylor wouldn't have played the Eagles on Nov 11, 2007, hence he likely wouldn't have suffered the sprained knee that caused him to be at home nursing it the night of Nov 27 and he'd be on his way to a potential HOF career in SD and their defense would've gone from good to great at the back of Brees & Co.

Having Fitzgerald or Taylor ON THE FIELD rather than Rivers ON THE BENCH could've been the difference in their 2004 season that saw them lose 20-17 in OT against the Jets in the playoffs.

But some of the fans here wanna throw in the towel on Tannehill after just 1.5 years? Gimme a break. You continue building around Tannehill and try to provide him a legitimate opportunity to succeed rather than deplete his resources and hinder his chance of success just to create a QB controversy. Tannehill had a nice 2 TD/0 INT day through the first half. If he had better protection, coaching, and receiver play it could've easily remained a 0 INT day.

I don't really see the point in drafting another QB to play behind this offensive line, with these receivers, running these plays.

I'm a firm believer you should build an offense that is as excuse-free around a young QB. Otherwise it takes you 3-4 years to find out what you have instead of 2-3.

Tannehill's shown a ton of promise and his mistakes are easily explained as failures by those around him - but we still don't know if you removed the problems around him if he would succeed. We're entering Sam Bradford territory.

(This is assuming we're drafting late enough that there isn't an obvious HR at QB. You'd more or less be drafting another Tannehill)
