http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...2000000274248/Is-Mike-Wallace-a-bust-in-Miami Who would have known that he was good with really only one thing in Pittsburgh and wasn't consistent running or catching underneath routes?
Still not gonna hate on Wallace yet..if we would just start running the ball more often..you might see some deeper routes via play action pass Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
well don't understand why we gave up on Marshall and it would not have killed us to add Dez and then we would have had a great wr corp. if it had been up to me I would have kept Reggie , Brandon Marshall , and drafted Dez then I would have drafted different olinemen . I don't know how I would address the defense but don't have some need at corner and safety.
If he was so successful with such a limited skill set, that doesn't speak well for the Miami Dolphins coaches and players executing the passing game. Yes he has dropped passes. But I don't think he's forgotten how to do the things he did in Pittsburgh.
We needed someone who could take the top off of defenses and Ireland got someone. I think it is more a scheme thing and putting our offense in positions to utilize his talents.
A one trick pony that can't duplicate what he did in the past, now on a team with lesser talent and/or coaching?
Miami has always misused players. Marshall wasn't as effective in Miami than he was in Denver/Chicago. Reggie Bush was underutilized in the passing game and we all knew that... Now look what he's doing in Detroit. I don't believe Wallace is a one trick pony. But we got to get him involved. We don't do enough quick scene passes like the big gain against New England last week or the TD against Indy. And we haven't been effectively going deep with him. Some of those miscues are on him, but he's not the main culprit in his struggles.
It's not that he has forgotten how to do those things. As Kurt said, the Dolphins are using him in ways he hasn't been used before. They are trying to use him the way Green Bay uses their receivers. That is why I said from the very get go that this move wouldn't work. Mike Wallace is not consistent enough and doesn't pay enough attention to detail to do what Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, and James Jones did when Joe was there. If all he is is a vertical threat, then we shouldn't have given him that contract.
Before he signed, there were many on here that told me that he wasn't a limited receiver and that he simply hadn't been asked to run a full route tree.
The "we" who doesn't is only Mike Sherman. He has a dynamic weapon but seems to have little interest in scheming the best ways to utilize it.
If he was dynamic, then you shouldn't have to scheme for him to make plays. He should be able to make them. He's not dynamic though. He's a deep threat only. It's what I was telling y'all before we signed him. The definition of dynamic when it is used as an adjective is a process that is characterized by constant change, action, or progress. If anything, Mike Wallace is a static play maker who you can really only utilize his talents in limited ways.
Bruce Arians didn't have any problem getting good use out of Wallace. Sherman does. I know where I am pointing the finger.
As Sports24/7 said, Bruce Arians and Ben Roethlisberger directly refuted this. And we have seen him run other routes aside from deep routes. Our playcalling just sucks incredible amounts of poop. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000157372/article/big-ben-fins-wr-mike-wallace-no-onetrick-pony
Dalton throws a quick screen to AJ Green on their second possession for an 8 yard gain to get him involved. 3rd and 6 for Miami, we throw a quick screen to Lamar Miller. Not Wallace's fault.
Yah like a WR for a QB and a GM that should have been run out of town 2 years ago. DION WHO?!? Great Pick
He is dynamic. Have you seen the plays he made on screens in the Colts and Pats games? It blows my mind we don't try to get him involved like this more often. It's like Sherman doesn't want to bother getting him involved unless it's a deep ball, which we can't really do because pass protection has been so godawful.
Before we signed him, KBs only anti-wallace argument was that he couldn't run a full route tree. literally.. paragraphs, pages, threads. everything about that and ONLY that. ... Cant run a full route tree. That got proven wrong 100%. There were even full route tree break downs and pictures showing it to be 100% false..... and the problem has been more along the lines of drops and I'll say overall execution, moreso than not being able to run the full 'route tree'. Yet I waited because I knew no matter what Wallace did wrong you would fit it into an "I told you so" agenda, Although its not what you said even a little bit in your 27,000 posts before the signing. Just because we can't utilize him properly and hes dropping balls like its what he is paid to do, does not make you correct in any assessment you've made.
He definitely bounced back, and made at least one game-changing play. Give him credit. Gotta give him credit.
I think what he meant is that he can't run most of the routes effectively. Anyone can "run a full route tree." Even I can but obviously I can't do it well. I think he was mostly right about Wallace really only being good at a few routes.
I wish I was exaggerating but that was the only argument, it was literally he could "run straight lines" and that was IT. period. nothing else. And people had to start linking in-depth disgustingly descriptive video/picture break downs in the threads to show that most of the stuff he was saying was completely off base. I was a huge supporter of the wallace signing, and i'm just as pissed as anyone about his play, but this stuff still irks me like it did then. Wallace isn't dynamic? or can't be? talk about delusional.
The buck stops with Sherman when it comes to incorporating Wallace into the game plan. Simple as that.
KB is an interesting mix when it comes to Wallace, those who may think he is bashing him may not realize he was hyping the hell out of him during the year he was drafted. I think what KB's point is, more or less boils down to Wallace is still as physically gifted as he ever was, it is more he has not progressed as a professional Wr. Which is fine, where I disagree with KB is "..he was not worth the contract!!!!" If KB were a GM..sure, perhaps valid, he's not, the money is not his to particularly care about.
While Wallace's drops and his lack of fighting for the ball are frustrating, I don't think you'll really get a good look at his speed until the line gives Tannehill the time to throw. And if Wallace has a one on one matchup, I say let him run deep and just chuck it. Forget the timing and trying to drop it in. If he's so damn fast let him catch up to it.
He is a one trick pony but it doesn't help that the Line doesn't give Tannehill enough time to make those kind of throws. I wont write Mike Wallace off yet.
KB is definitely a smart dude and a poster whose football opinions I dont ignore. Where I struggle with this opinion is when the guy who quarterbacked for Wallace says otherwise. If we're not seeing different routes then expected its not because he cant run them, its because Sherman isnt calling those plays.
Eh, yes and no, where I differ from Kb is on athleticism vs a sort of professionalism. He think professionalism trumps athleticism, I believe athleticism can trump professionalism Anthony Newman is a pro NFL Cb, Wallace toasted him and his only response was to tackle him drawing the PI call which eventually led to the GW safety. Dbess or Bline do not cause that to happen, and they were pro Wr's who are very professional. Sort of I view athleticism in SOME environments as "...everyone has a plan until they are punched in the mouth (via Tyson)..."
