So I've been out of town the last 4 days and their seem to be a lot of diff sides to this but can someone give me a quick breakdown w what's official and what isn't?
Perhaps Jake Long didnt want to be here because of the culture .Incognito could be at the center of that culture. He is a bit of a nut job and he has been a troublemaker throughout his collegiate and professional career.
Seems like though we moved the ball better against Buffalo than KC did this weekend. They won but were held without an offensive TD.
Sorry F Martin. he is a grown 340 pound man. He's got yrs on Cognito. Guy tells you to give him $15,000 you tell him to F off if you don't want to. Bullying!?Really? I don't want to hear that word again. These are grown men, adults. the word is HARASSMENT at best. What a little Puss. You know that commercial when a NFL players mom brings them a bowl of Chunky Soup? J Martin's Mom brings him a douche and a Tampon.
so.... what did I miss today? Dolphins aren't playing, should be a quiet day... <reads thru headlines> seriously wtf? now, we'd better hope that Incognito was the only culprit and that the team didn't have any evidence before the season started. Something tells me they did. Something tells me this is just the tip of the iceberg for the Titanic. Recall last year during Martin's rookie season that Hard Knocks filmed the team. Recall this training camp that there was contact between the Dolphins and members of the Hard Knocks team. Again, we'd better hope the team didn't try to cover any of this up. Because if they did, well... just remember what the NFL did to the Saints and Bounty Gate.
and here we thought when Richie told Tannehill last year something to the effect of "just don't **** up" during practice when being named the starter, that he was just joking... well, guess again.
Meanwhile, CBS' Bill Cowher --- who doesn't often criticize coaches --- is holding Joe Philbin partly responsible for this mess. "In the NFL, perception is reality," Cowher said today. "Perception you have here is the coaching staff does not have a pulse for their football team.... The head coach immediately should have addressed this from the top. Because now it's taken on a life of its own." Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/#storylink=cpy
I speculated on this re Long in one of the other threads: Now I am wondering if the dysfunctional atmosphere that seemed to surround our OL contingent had anything to do with Jake Long really wanting to get out of there. I've often said I believed it came down to guaranteed money, no more, no less. This entire situation if it has been going on for a while, could point to it being more than money. Maybe Jake and Richie weren't really on the friendly terms that all the tweets from the latter seemed to indicate during the time before Jake finally announced his decision to sign with the Rams.
As far as what to expect during today's team press conference with Philbin, fairly safe to assume he won't say much beyond the team released statements. When was the last time a team issued three press releases within a 24 hour span? I think you have to remember the team culture that Ireland said he was bringing here when the Dolphins hired the trifecta of Parcells/Sparano/Ireland. Most NFL teams are going to try to keep a lid on many things that they would prefer be kept internal. When something gets out, it's going to be press release city. Don't expect Philbin to all of a sudden start talking. BTW, don't blame Philbin for this. It starts with Ireland and Ross ultimately. Philbin is along for the ride at this point. Ownership has signed off on the press releases and secrecy environment. The only way that breaks is by Ross calling one of his infamous round tables. And we all know how those generally end up. Spoiler more incompetence By the way, when I say secrecy environment, obviously the Hard Knocks thing last year flies against that. There's a difference between putting on a public face and not letting team issues become global catastrophes.
bleh this is one big **** storm about to give my tickets to the tampa game away might stay away from this circus for now. If Martins camp has evidence philbin and ireland knew about this the whole time they should both be **** canned. Also incognito is so ****ing dumb guy gets accused of this and threatens schefter on twitter jeez dude make it more obvious that you did all this lol.
If Ireland survives this, bringing in credible OLinemen with experience will be difficult at best. We're going to have to overpay to get anyone to even look at us.
Philbin will very Bill Belichick. The media can get as huffy puffy as it wants, but the league and Dolphins lawyers are going to tell him to keep quiet and talk football. Mando, Beasley and Perkins can ask until they are blue in the face. This is a legal matter and Philbin won't say jack. As to Cowher's comments, I believe he is correct. If this thing spirals any further out of hand, I think Ross will take action to save face. He has to be pissed and must be looking at those two and thinking "What the hell are you doing?" Right or wrong, this is his company. Ireland and Philbin have the chance to become the fall guys for this episode, like it or not. I'm a stability guy. I'd like to see a group of leaders stay with the Dolphins for a while. BUT Ross needs to hold someone accountable and Incognito won't do.
I read through this entire thread before commenting. What I noticed is that there appears to be a number of individuals who seem to think they already know what happened and that they know more than anyone else on this forum. The reality is that only those involved in this incident really know what happened and everyone on here who claims to know what happened are merely just expressing what they THINK happened. As for me, the NFL is going to investigate the matter, and there is a possibility that Martin and his parents may or may not file a lawsuit in this matter. At that time, hopefully we will get a better idea of exactly what transpired and led to Martin leaving the teams. Until then, the season goes on. There are eight games left in this season and this issue should not be a factor in how the Dolphins finish this season. To me, the Dolphins still need to make the playoffs if Ireland and Philbin are to be considered safe in their positions. The loss of Martin and Incognito should not serve as an excuse if the Dolphins don't make the playoffs. The OL wasn't playing effectively with these two in the starting lineup to begin with and so it is now time for the backups to step up and show what they can do. That is why they are part of the 53 man roster to begin with.
If any of this is true about management looking the other way, and is close to as bad as they say, get ready for some very, very lean FA years. The good news is we will draft high, the bad news is we will draft bad. The Phins may become the 90's Detroit Lions.
That doesn't seem very sensitive to the issue. 340 pounds/grown man or not... some people don't like to stand up for themselves. I think low self esteem could cause that. Let me give you an example (a personal one). Growing up, my mom always seemed to instill upon me (for some strange reason) that other people's needs tend to be more important. Of course I know better, but as a result, I tend to be a people pleaser when it comes to things regarding myself. On the flip side of that, if I see someone else being bullied or threatened, I am the first person to jump up and do what I've got to do to stop it. I'm not scared of anyone, but I have a tendency to allow myself to be treated poorly at times, and I believe it is due to my upbringing. So, in my opinion, Martin is probably just a good guy who hates confrontation. Things have built up, and he has reached his breaking point.
Under Ireland we have just about become that. Hopefully, and finally Ross has an epiphany and gets rid of this Parcells cancer.
we are not even close with the lions, we didnt had top 5 picks year after year Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
The media has blown this out of proportion in my opinion, time will tell as facts are revealed, but my speculation is this is an instance of a guy who happens to be really sensitive. Good or bad. Sorry if Incognito was that bad, or a cancer to the team, pretty sure Solai would go over to him and slap him up.
I am just going to put this out there for discussion. Before Jim Turner, OL coach, was a college coach since 1994, he was in the marines for 4 years. I'm not saying he is responsible but could it be suggested that hazing or whatever gets looked over or turned a blind eye under his watch?
very likely. I mentioned in another thread that Turner is the one directly overseeing these guys. If heads are going to roll, then it needs to start with Turner. Not a big loss anyway, not like our Oline can get much worse without him.
Yikes, it gets worse and worse. This story is so messed up. I'd be shocked if Martin every plays football again now, not only because of his own personal problems, but because of how everyone else is now going to view him if he enters another lockerroom again, whether ours, or someone elses.
Martin cannot act like he's innocent. He could have said no at any time and he was a willing participant in a lot of the things that went on. Here he is in Josh Samuda's car when they hid it.
So first..Jon martin tries to bury this team with his play...and he is now trying to bury it with the media. he is a malcontent *****. CUT HIM. Then lawyer up.
Bah humbug... If Martin let it go on for a couple of years, as seems the case, shame on him. He's a man and can say no. If he's that intimidated by other players, there's just as much wrong with him as with the veterans doing the deed. I'm not excusing what RI was doing, just saying that after the first time, it's time to buck up and say no.... This issue was caused by Martin, just as much as by RI or anyone else...
Tannehill enters Philbins office with his jersey like in the movie Rudy..... *Lays jersey on philbins desk* "Hey coach, I want Martin to have my roster spot, its only fair" Philbin: "But Ryan....you're the qb...." Ryan: "shhh.....its ok....its what I need to do as the leader. Its tough but its the right choice" *Philbin looks down at his filing box, then looks up out of his window Ryan Tannehill is sprinting to a idling car with Lauren Tannehill behind the wheel* I'M FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ryan yells as they peel off
True. Maybe we saw it was Ritchie being friendly trying to lure him back, but Long saw it as threatening to come back "or else" type of deal. WTF This guy is insane.....mob-style!
Second take, Martin will be on the roster again. Think about it, if he is just waived and not signed anywhere, the lawsuit would be for Avg starting Tackle $ x number of yrs in an avg career, say 5 yrs at 12 million per or whatever
BTW...what was being said about Bryant McKinnie...Mt McKinnie has to smiling a bit big atm... Party Boat, Strip Clubs, never mentioned any more.
He hasn't even been dressing!!! Seriously if this guy cant even dress for this game nevermind play I dont know what to tell you....
Thats elementary compared to this stuff, McKinnie is big pimpin not giving a ****, and knows hes not leaving this team for awhile due to lack of bodies.....hes needed.
That he could be the Egnew of this draft. Which means he's not a bust, but maybe a developing player.
Wow. Pretty damn discouraging when I think about how excited I was at the beginning of the season. Still have some hope, but it's a lot of distraction to overcome. Like all of us I will be curious to see what finally shakes out, but if this has gotten all "legal" it could be months before we have answers. One thing is that I find it hard to believe that in the history of the NFL Martin has been more poorly treated that any other player. I'd say the combination of him being soft and his parents being attorneys is the reason this thread is here this morning. Bummer.
