Oh martins probably done with football. How can he come back to the team or any team and build any sense of unity with other players now? I'd be scared to say anything to him that wasn't X's and O's from this point forward.

A lot of this isn't really any different than what is said on this very forum, in complete jest. Its impossible to judge their relationship based on anecdotal voicemails.

When i worked as a bartender at red Lobster in Orlando, many of the male servers, cooks and assistant managers had this thing were we insulted each other's moms in as creative was possible. It was understood it was all jjoking and truly terrible things were said, but we all knew it wasn't serious. Other people heard about it and complained though. We all got "sensitivity" training.

You could see the **** eating grin on his face after his segment about cogs being suspended last night. Of course espn has him cover it too. Classy.

I'm curious as to what evidence you think is enough to make judgment on anything, because you continually say we never have enough information to judge anything, ever.

The Dolphins should schedule a Press Conference NOW! Have players appear on stage with the coach, owner, GM in solidarity with Martin. They should be contrite and offer an unconditional apology to Martin. Throw Incognito under the bus. He's an *** and deserves what he's getting.

Oh they did. They later fired me too. Another story for another day.

Follow up to the momma jokes, was that before we got stopped, my mom and grandmother came in for lunch and I told her what was going on and if she'd help me pull a joke on the asst. manager. So she later had the waitress bring the manager over and introduce herself, then proceeded to ask him why he's been saying all these terrible things about her to her son. He went white as a ghost and almost vomited. It was awesome.

    Oh, it's both.

Right now, the Dolphins not only have to show that "this will no longer be tolerated", but they also can't just simply release Jonathan Martin in the coming offseason either. They have to show support to Martin and help him through his rehab, and then when the time comes, hopefully Martin just calls it quits and retires from football. If he retires, Miami doesn't get the black eye from cutting him, because you can bet that will come if they just decide to release Martin.

I would think in order to judge the relationship between Incognito and Martin, one would have to spend a decent amount of time around them??? I would think fellow players, coaches, staff, etc. would have the requisite information to make a better judgement. Certainly fans of the team have very little information when it comes to what happens off the field. Obviously the two players themselves have the most information. At this point we haven't even heard Martin's side of the story.

N-Word was really the only thing that I would say crossed the line, without knowing any context. Incognito definitely deserves whatever he gets for saying that.

The people most privy to their relationship suspended Incognito indefinitely. I'm not sure what inference you think needs to be drawn from that, but it's pretty obvious to me.

He retaliated by making me a name tag that said 'F*cking Wop". I saved it and told him if anything happened to my job I'd sue him based on racism.

Neither of us were serious of course.

This whole thing is disturbing. I expect a large part of what has been said is going on to actually occur throughout the league, but threatening your own teammate and his family is way beyond the pale. And I LIKED Incognito!

I really think at this point that both Incognito AND Martin need to go. Ritchie for obvious reasons and Martin because in light of this I question whether he has the toughness that you need to get the job done.

"This will no longer be tolerated" entails what though? Rookies can no longer buy veterans dinner? You can't make fun of others?

I think this entire situation is the result of two things:

    1. A normal fraternity-like work-environment, that is the norm in the NFL
    2. Jon Martin having mental health issues

Those two things didn't mix well, and it resulted in this. I don't believe either of those two things are inherent to the Miami Dolphins.

I'm not sure this story even gains steam if Joe Philbin didn't have that issue with the press last week. They essentially took Martin leaving the team and snowballed it into an examination of the culture of the NFL.

What if Martin's parents heard the VM's or saw the text and we find out they pushed him to do this? If Martin participated in any of the tit for tat his credibility is out the door. At our fantasy draft the insults are unreal and Martin would have been sucking his thumb under the table. That being said, we all know the rules and what can or can't be crossed.

I don't see why Martin's career would be in bad shape because of this. I doubt he comes back this year, but given the likelihood of Incognito, the coaching staff, and the front office not being here next year, I think there's a very plausible path he's back.

In terms of his career prospects, I think Martin deserves a look at Guard. He reminds me a bit of Wade Smith, and has looked pretty good in pin and pull runs.

He just outed himself as a snitch who is angling to sue his team instead of playing football.

All while collecting a check from them...for playing like ****.

I doubt he plays for long if at all.

Right, but that should fall under the context of the NFL work environment. Was Richie's behavior just typical NFL stuff? If so, does the NFL want to change that type of culture?

The Saints, their fans and many other people in the beginning thought it was typical NFL stuff. In the end a lot of people realized or agreed that they went too far...

I think it would be very difficult for Martin to go into a NFL locker room after this. How is he going to build camaraderie with his peers if they feel like they have to hold back in fear of pushing him over the edge? Seems like too much of a headache for a guy who was overall poor player while on the field, when there are plenty of guys coming out of college who can offer more with a fraction of the headache.
