Just an oline. That's it. Super Bowl is another story, but playoffs, just an oline.

The oline gets fixed, and the running backs are taken care of simultaneously. Need push and holes and creases and traps and pulls. That's all.

You like our depth at rb? I don't and it would take a huge upgrade at Oline to compensate for that.

We are not a consistent playoff team the last 4 yrs due to 3 things:

    -avg Qb play
    -roster lacks experience throughout
-Rookies rarely being impact players/ game changers

No, but to paraphrase Freewheelin' Franklin Freak, good linemen will get you through times of bad backs better than good backs will get you through times of bad linemen.

The Dolphins need better coaching, an offensive line, a better General Manager, an offensive line, another running back, an offensive line. Oh did I mention they need an offensive line?

    You know..its easy to say
    .new GM..new oline.

But you want my honest opinion. Every single one of those guys are NFL players. It means..they are the best of the best. The elite. They didn't make it this far and not be.

What are we missing? Confidence. Thats all we need to go on a roll. You don't dominate some of the best teams in the NFL for at least a half..if you don't have enough talent. We have done that all season long. We just nees to taste blood..to know what it feels like when your opponent finally relents..and capitulates, knowing they are a beaten foe. Thats what we have been missing for years. Hopefully this Sunday..they get a taste.

Don't blow the bills and ravens games and this team IS a playoff team. Don't blow the new england game and we might even be in the hunt for division crown. This roster is actually playoff worthy with the exception of the oline, we just blew all our chances. just the bills and ravens games alone would have put us at 7-4 right now and controlling the 6th seed with an iron fist. Suddenly we'd have a reason to watch every chiefs game to see if they slide further.

Yeah we need a better oline, but you have to blame coaching for our current position. We should not only be a playoff team, but maybe even a top 4 seed if we just capitalized on our opportunities this year.

Contrary to popular belief, this team ain't bad. we just don't know how to be good..

I agree the OL is the major problem on this team. Yet I still don't think the RB's on this team are good enough to provide a consistent running game, even with a decent OL. Miller just isn't tough enough to break tackles and he just doesn't have a lot of moves to get past tacklers. I think he is a good change of pace type back, but he just isn't a #1 running back.

Thomas shows up and runs okay for a few games each year, but can't seem to stay healthy for an entire season. He has been here three years and has been hurt and missed games everyone of those seasons. He needs to be replaced before next season begins.

I guess with Thomas out for probably the rest of this season, we will find out if there are any other backs on the roster who can step up and show they deserve to be on the roster next season.

    I agree.

    BUT.

Luck goes both ways. With as many close games this team has played...I would say that the Luck has broken fairly even.

I point to experience up and down the roster b/c to me, it is the one ingredient that keeps this from such an uneven team year and year out, one year great running game, D is atrocious w/2 rook Cb starting (Smith and Davis) next yr we add Marshall, D turns over again (out with JT and JP) then Special Teams is epically bad costing us 2 games (anyone recall Jon Bonamigo being fired?) both AFC losses, out of the playoffs, Ross goes on the hunt for Harbaugh, Sparano is a lame duck we start out what 1-7? That was the yr we were tebowed, the first team to suffer it that season

New Staff, new faces, over and over again.

I thought Dansby was overpaid, who can say adding Ellerbe has been an upgrade? Ditto Wheeler for Burnett.

Who was the last drafted rookie who scored even say...6 Td's in a season?

Reggie Bush avg 1,000 yds his two years here, scored Td's as well...can't have that!

Much of that was heavily investing in..wait for it...linemen...but wait..this offseason Starks and Soliai are FA's!

    Wheee!!!!

The one upside I can see is this, I look at where we are and it reminds me of the Chargers in the early 00's.

16 yards from our RBs last week is not a coaching issue and has probably been the biggest reason for our current situation. We just cannot close out games with our running game. We just lack the personnel up front and in the backfield to be an effective running team.

Our defense is good enough to win with and they've in fact closed out most of our wins. Special teams has been spotty as our kicker has proven to be average and we gain very little in the return game.

As alluded to above, our current situation ultimately rests with the personnel situation along the offensive line.

When has a Dolphins team had that or played that way? Not in my time as a fan (late 80s to present). Every week, I watch games on Sunday Ticket where one average team finds a point in a game where they put the other team away and cruise to victory. Miami virtually never has done that. Every game is tight, win or lose. Its been that way for years.

    1) An offense that is so proficient at executing 1 thing that it can not really be taken away.
1b) An offense that is proficient at everything enough that it can adapt to multiple defensive situations.
    2) Solid offensive line
    3) A player Defensive or Offensive that can put it on his shoulders and change the game. Wake is the only and closest thing we have.
    4) A coach who can adapt to offenses and defenses without the aid of a halftime
    5) The ability to stop the screen pass (legacy)
    6) The ability to execute the screen pass consistently (legacy)
    7) Consistent Running Game
    8) A fanbase that is patient enough for all of the above to happen without flying banners and hooking to get the front office fired every 2 years.

A more efficient running game. Especially in short yardage situations and 3rd downs.

30th in the league in 1st downs by run

I guess this lines up with OL.

That's the thing. People want the magic bullet, but it's not just one thing and it isn't everything. The team has been close in almost all of their games. Reality is that they'd be a playoff team if any one of several things was just a little better. When you're that close you could argue that a couple more stops or a couple more conversions at key times would have made all the difference. If Patterson had not had a a groin injury or if Keller or Gibson were not hurt, if the coaches call a few different plays, if the GM brings in one other or different player, if RT doesn't check out of the run in the Buffalo game or makes a couple more throws, if the receivers catch a few more passes, if the backs break a few more tackles, if the refs make a few different calls or if a few bounces went differently. The list can go on and on. Reality is that at this point we're a mediocre team. A few different decisions will/would have make/made us much better or much worse. You can look at that as half empty or half full. IMO which way you choose to look at it says more about you than the team. Some will see it as proof that we will always be mediocre or that the FO/coaches/players will always be as successful as they currently are. Others will see it as proof that there is some talent and some wise decisions were made and that since almost everybody improves with experience (assuming youth relative to your peers) that it's reasonable to expect that this cast will as well. I think that we're close to being a playoff team and we still may be one this year. As for a SB team, that, like every other team will take luck and the development of some key players.
