just astonishing that Jordan only has 2 sacks..Mingo has 4 and Ansah 6 i think..are u concerned guys?
Same. The team is afraid of using him due to the fact that he might not be ready to stop the run....if they gave him a chance.
I was and am frustrated that we did not take Ansah. But I'd be shocked if the fathead made a good decision on draft day.
To say he's been outperformed without taking into account pressures etc and comparing it to the snaps logged seems a bit premature at best.
No, not concerned in the least unless he continues being sacked by our DC and not utilized to the fullest of his ability.
I think coyle has come around on Jordan finally. He's been in more often the past two games. I could still see him pass mingo and maybe even Ansah in sacks if he gets the chances
I know we want to see those high sack numbers but I just want to see impact plays like he did against Baltimore and Atlanta. Oh btw - what a brutal underthrow by Flacco just now. Must be Tannehill's fault. Edit: now he hits one. Maybe the key is to keep throwing.
I didn't see much effectiveness at all from Jordan in the Carolina game, his pass rush was stale and uneffective.
I think he is relying too much on his pure speed and athleticism. I'd like to see him change it up, set up the LT and cut inside for once.
As it's been said, I don't think its any fault of Jordans. Althought I would like to see the QB pressures vs snaps for those three. Ansah was one of the biggest boom or bust candidates of the draft... glad to see him boom tbh.
Jordan's played a lot more recently. Don't forget he's also had shoulder problems. Not concerned one bit.
Player - Snaps - Sacks - Hits - Pressure Jordan - 233 - 2 - 3 - 15 Mingo - 468 - 4 - 5 - 13 Ansah - 385 - 6 - 3 - 13 Add some perspective (PFF)
Mingo is purely a 3-4 player. He couldnt have been a consideration in a hybrid scheme unless you were going to emphasize rush LB in a hybrid scheme. Ansah, as was stated was a boom/bust player and hes worked out so far...doesnt mean he will end up better then Dion Jordan. Dion also does things that neither of those guys can do such as drop in to coverage and really run and his frame/reach presents a lot of problems for qb's. My only real concern with Dion Jordan is that he needs to get stronger and thats probably one of the easier things to work on if the player has any real desire to be great.
Not Ansah. Time will tell. They said tonight during the Dallas game that Ware was passed on by Auburn or Alabama or both for a scholarship. Too small. Talk about evaluating talent. Somewhere there is some guy(s) watching Ware play and being reminded that he turned him down for a scholarship. There a moral here, just don't know what it is.
Keep in mind that it's also hard to add strength with a hurt shoulder. A healthy offseason should do wonders for him...
I mean lets be honest...... did anyone realistically expect Vernon to step up? Maybe drafting Jordan lit a fire under his ***, but either way, it was unexpected and obviously makes it harder to spotlight Jordan.
Seriously, as others have said... have you paid attention to his playing time this year as opposed to Ansh and Mingo... Coyle probably shouldnt have a job with the lack of playing time our #3 overall pick has seen this year. It's a damn shame... Im surprised Philbin potentially wants to go down with this ship...
We must realize that a coordinator is judged based on the performance of the entire unit and not the performance/playing time of any one player.
.... except when that player is the #3 overall pick of the draft whom we traded up for no less and represents the future of the defense. So what I'm saying is that's bull****, WADR.
I love how people want Coyle fired because Jordan doesn't play enough for their liking. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.
Yeah... im leaning in that direction too... especially since the defense... specifically the run defense has been declining over the last few years here. Personnel changes might have alot to do with that thi ysear, but... its obvious Jordan is tallented, maybe he has some shortcomings still as he grows into the NFL... but he needs more playing time, he makes things happen.
Jordan has been injured all season long with a shoulder that has been bothering him way before we drafted him.. So although I don't like Coyle much I think it's no secret they were going to limit Jordan this year. I don't think his shoulder can handle more than 11 snaps a game. I just hope he can finally be 100% next season. The trade up was a risk considering the talent there was at the second round..
but it's not top 5, which is why fans care about the lack of snaps. Remind me, who are the HOF destined right end and OLB rightfully keeping the draft's top defender on the bench? Jared Allen? Robert Mathis? Oh yeah, it's last year's 3rd rounder and Koa Misi.
I want Jordan on the field more too. I'd like to see all of them on the field together, but don't forget Jordan has a shoulder issue.
Agree..... and both issues [run D and Jordan playing time] could be addressed by spending more time in a 4-3 Under front with Odrick at closed RE which gets Starks on the field at DT to improve the run D with a trio of Soliai, Starks, and Odrick.... and it allows Jordan to gain much-needed playing experience at OLB b/c he'd have Odrick protecting him.
well then that's all the more excuse to get him more reps at OLB rather than DE so that he's not constantly engaged with a 300+ pound LT every snap. He should be able to see more playing time if he's out in coverage or generally playing more in space in base D, which is what he should be doing regardless IMO. Throw Odrick at RE to cover Jordan up a bit.
All 3 are raw, too early to judge. It's funny: We all want more snaps for Dion; and Cleveland actually wanted fewer snaps for Mingo (like we're currently using Jordan) but they can't use him in spot-duty because of other injuries at OLB. I think both Jordan and Mingo will be very strong edge-rushers in the League. Ansah not so much.
Yes. I said last year he was going to be a good player. Its not ridiculous when the guys being put out on the field in front of Jordan arent better or more productive. Personally, I want Coyle gone because he basically asked for the personnel to run a double A gap blitz scheme, the same scheme he unsuccessfully ran in Cincinnati, and doesnt blitz the A gap at all and when he does you wish he wouldnt. The purpose of said scheme is to create turnovers which we dont do unless an individual makes a hell of a play. Its a bad scheme with a bad coordinator in my opinion.
Agree to disagree. I don't think Coyle is a bad coordinator. I don't think he's great either but there are stretches where our defense is dominant. In hindsight, the LB swap was a disaster though. The secondary, especially the corners have really stepped up which was a pleasant surprise.
