Per Adam Schefter this morning on ESPN and Twitter:

    Twitter

Also noted on ESPN that he was overruled, I presume by Ireland. Also lends a little more credence to Ross' assertion of Philbin's character and might be one more nail in Jeff's coffin.

    Yawn.

We have a game today. No one cares about what a team janitor heard from his friend the laundry guy about what Philbin supposedly said to the groundskeeper.

    Damning of Ireland, if true.

Doesn't surprise me given Philbin's past decisions.

My guess is Ireland overruled him.

Could be why Ross mentions Philbin's name during conferences and not Ireland. I think Ireland is gone for sure after the season.

Between Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, yeah I guess I can see why Ross has been so obviously supportive of Joe Philbin and not Jeff Ireland. Essentially Joe Philbin gets to say "I told ya so" on both fronts with both players.

Why wait though?! Get a gm in that will work with Philbin. Have joe in on the process. Get the new guy scouting college kids for our system etc

I think he's waiting for final results. If the team finishes on a 5-0 tear and becomes that team that gets hot in the playoffs and goes to and/or wins the Super Bowl, it would look really bad if he fired the GM that built the team...scandal or no scandal.

Everything has its time. I'm not sure it's time to fire Ireland yet.

I'll take a Super Bowl. But since that's a bleak chance I'll def take Ireland gone.

    I don't buy this.

The coach can still bench a guy he doesn't want on the team.

If he's benched Incognito, then the coverup of the golf incident would have almost certainly come to light when someone dug it up. Simple as that, sadly.

While there is an extant report (now) that Philbin wanted Richie Incognito gone, and we know from Hard Knocks that getting rid of Chad Johnson was also his baby, there are no reports whatsoever that Philbin had anything to do with Karlos Dansby, Reggie Bush, Sean Smith or even Vontae Davis. None. It's just speculation.

There have been rumors regarding Brandon Marshall though. So his resume ACTUALLY includes Brandon Marshall, Chad Johnson and Richie Incognito. The other names are being added on based on nothing in particular.

Not really surprising. They had every reason to keep a lid on that while Richie Incognito was still a member of the Miami Dolphins. Now that he's probably played his last game with Miami, that reason disappears.

It's shameless blame shifting towards the end of the season, when in reality both parties should be fired.

I wonder what's Philbin's opinion on Misi, didn't he destroy a door down and then inflicted the same pounding on the teenager as well?

You care so little that you opened the thread and commented. ;-) Personally I think it's highly relevant.

Per Schefter, this info came out in the Ted Wells interviews.

From a GM perspective, why would you sign a guy like bush, have him go out and show you that the signing was a success production wise, then turn around and get rid of him?..the information we do have tells me that's a coaches decision..

If Philbin stays and Jeff goes it's certainly going to make getting a tiop tier gm candidate harder. Maybe somebody from GB who knows Joe or somebody desperate for a gm job.

This comes from Adam Schefter... so, I'll take that into account. He's a hack who has reported false info about Incognito before, then been 100% unapologetic about it after the facts came out in support of Richie. I think Schefter is a bigger douchebag than Richie may or may not ever be.

That being said... I agree that if this story is true, it could be one of the final nails in Ireland's coffin. I like to hear that.

There's nothing substantiated about any of this. And what's being reported is often wrong while truths go unreported every day.
Shefter's report might be true, might not. Obviously the leak was made to protect Philbin, that's the only thing we can be sure of.

What confuses me is that Incognito is supposedly the villain here while Martin is supposedly the victim. Yet the team is paying Cogs and balking at giving Martin a dime. The players appear fully behind Cogs and have not come to Martin's defense in ANY way. Buuuut people love a good story line and anything that can be twisted into a knock on Ireland seems to be immediately accepted as true, this is just the latest example.

Hit the nail right on the head. Fire both and let the new GM hire his own coach.

Yeah, I can see that point, but at the same time, just the scandal itself is means to fire either or both guys. No one would give Ross a hard time if he cans Ireland at this point. Now, if the underlings (lower asst coaches, trainers, etc) were involved in the pranks and such with these guys, then Philbin, despite any late season heroics warrants the boot as well... Ross is really in a win-win spot here, assuming that Ireland doesn't get any better a GM than he has been so far and this team continues to under-perform with Philbin... He can fire either or both and still look like the hero here, despite what the team does or does not do the rest of this season...

Shefter is also reporting that there will be no mention of Jovan Belcher today. Remember him? He murdered his child's mother then drove to team facilities and blew his brains out in front if the HC and GM. Josh Brent got drunk and killed a teammate. Aaron Hernandez executed a man in cold
blood, according to the Boston PD. Ahmad Brooks cracked a teammate in the head with a bottle, Aldon Smith had to go to rehab and is facing felony weapons charges. Von Miller, Aquib Talib, Justin Blackmon, how many Seahawks have gotten suspended for drugs in the past year? At least 4.

Aaand Miami fans are crying about what Incognito supposedly did? It's embarrassing.

    I hadn't heard that.

Why put him on the NFI list, why not injured reserve? If he left because he was being bullied on the job, and the job is football, NFI doesn't seem to make sense.

I figure it's because it's not due to physical injury. It's 'mental' but not a concussion.

    Semantics/technicalities I suppose.

I think that's wishful thinking. Just change the name of the site to fireland.com and get it over with.

I wonder who the scapegoat will be after he's gone. My money is on Sherman-Coyle, with Philbin in the on deck circle.

Has nothing to do with the fans. It's about what Stephen Ross decides, and this would seem to strengthen Philbin's standing in his eyes.

I think most fans would prefer they all get tossed.

If all of this is true, its a guarantee that Ireland never GM's again in the league. Hell he might have a hard time finding a job as a scout.
