Solving the Defensive End situation(Wake, Vernon, and Jordan)

So in other words (minus the hyperbole) you have no idea who has the worst OL but you assume it's Miami's b/c you watch them the most and there's is pretty bad.

 

How many teams are 3 injuries away from better players than having a 3rd wide receiver better than Marlon Moore?

Jimmy Wilson is actually playing pretty decent.

Also Thigpen is the 4th string runningback. Not many teams have better depth.

Justic Trusnick isn't a good back up, I agree. however I do not think Miami is thinner than most teams in the NFL.

 

The OL has been playing much better over past several weeks, ever since Martin and Incognito left, actually. It's still a weak spot and needs to be reinforced, but that's not a major task, see Sam Brenner and Nate Garner. LT is the only position I'm really concerned about.

Actually we are 4 injuries away from that. Unfortunately, three of those injuries (Binns, Keller, Gibson) have already happened.

Again, two injuries away, one having already occurred. Thigpen took regular snaps vs the Jets and did nothing to embarrass himself. Gillislee looked competent as well. I like the way you twist the facts to fit your point though, it's a good tactic for people who are putting a weak argument on the table.

One last time, Jimmy Wilson is our #5/6 CB, but due to injuries to 3 of our CB he's been forced into a starting role and he has actually played well, certainly better than any 7th round pick can be expected to play. That's a sign of solid drafting and crazy depth in the secondary, not an excuse to go after the GM. Trusnik sucks but he's here mainly for special teams, Jordan and/or Jenkins will be taking those snaps in the near future.

I think it is a crime not to develop Dion Jordan into a true,"Joker."

When Julian Peterson was healthy and his prime he was absolutely devastating to offenses playing in this kind of role.

I believe Jordan has the athleticism and coverage skills to play this role at an elite level; and didn't he play something similar to a Joker at Oregon sometimes?

The best thing that could happen IMO is a switch to a base 3-4 with Misi playing Mike and Jordan playing the Will, but really playing all over the place. Vernon and Wake on the outside and Wheeler and Ellerbe playing special teams and doing spot duty and serving as backups until they can be released or traded in 2015 without a ton of dead money.

I have heard a lot of people insist that Misi is an edge only player but they base it on nothing. If you go back to his college days he played all over including the interior line, and he played effectively on the inside. Misi is exceptionally smart and versatile. He just needs to take his meds and not get depressed or hit anybody.

I'm also drafting Stanley Jean-Baptiste to play S. Reshad Jones needs to be pushed to play better or he needs to be cut or traded in 2015.

I get that you support Ireland and want him to stay. I respect that (unlike you who doesn't support any dissenting though of a fan and label them "fair-weather"). I'm sure you're tired as hell dealing with ignorant people as you'd call it. I'm probably one of them. But because a dude has a different opinion doesn't make him ignorant. You're sure as hell quick to judge.

Not to mention every time you've quoted him you've grossly misinterpreted what the guy is saying. He's saying we have one of the worst offensive lines in the game. That's all. And with Fantasy Football all the rage, there's no doubt in my mind people are more knowledgeable about other teams than ever before.

Ireland has resource after resource to improve the OLine and failed. Every year it's gotten worse. I'm sure that statement can be supported with facts and is opinion driven too. Just no need to be an *** about it. Simply no need to be an ***...ignore or don't respond.

EDIT - I think it's also important to say. You're clearly coming from a place of optimism and hope. And I get that. That's awesome. I wish I could be right there with you. However, I've just seen this over and over again (other than 2008 recently). So, my hope is pretty gone - to say the least. Either way I'm cool with it. I just don't think calling people ignorant is correct. Matter of factly, because you can't allow a different opinion and be open to listen to it makes you the ignorant one. Either way, it's cool.

 

To follow up on an earlier post about how Ireland seems to be better able to draft or acquire defensive talent much more so than offensive talent, is there any precedence to say, having the head coach have final say on offensiven player acquisition, and the GM having final say on defensive players? There are probably plenty of reasons why this would not be workable, but it seems like in our teams situation it would be appropriate to some degree.

 

Although it is subjective to some degree, I would certainly say we are much more stocked with high levels of talent on the defensive side of the ball. There are so many more issues with the team on the offensive side. Building and keeping a good quality offensive line has been a shortcoming throughout Ireland's tenure. Clay is a pretty good player, but we have not had a top quality TE in too many years to count, serviceable has been about the best we have done. I may be proven wrong, but I don't think Egnew or Sims will become top flight TE's. The wide receiver position is somewhat improved, the RB position has only been serviceable this year, and we have needed a true playmaker or two for years. I suppose Marshall could have been one, but he's gone. The QB position is promising, but this for this offense scoring points is like pulling teeth. Tannehill really needs a better supporting cast.

It seems we are much closer to being a dominant team on defense. If there was equal talent on the offensive side of the ball, I think we'd be a playoff team that could make some noise.
