I doubt it. Word is he's looking to get a deal similar to Ellsbury. Not sure why the Sox would pass on Ellsbury but then sign Choo instead.

2 years of Price vs. 6 years of Walker & prospects for a team that isn't realistically close to competing would definitely be a mistake.

Lmao!! No definitely not....or am I?

No. No I'm not. His swing is the best it's ever been. He had a lot of holes prior. That's not to say that his swing won't return to pedestrian, but if it doesn't, his swing and his eye at the plate. I expect a year.

Mets signed Bartolo colon for 2 years and 20M. Well I wanted the mets to do something. It's not a bad move just not what I really had in mind. But these are the Wilpon's and Wilpon's gonna Coupon. I don't understand why they would go for him instead of someone younger/better.

I agree it's a strange move especially for a non contender and giving him 2 years to boot just seems risky. But maybe the hope is he pitches really well and the Mets dump him in July for prospects.

That or after losing out on most of the FA's this could be a lame attempt by the FO to appease Mets fans by spending some money.

I know they singed Young, Granderson and now Colon but that brings them up to a whopping 50 million or so pre arb... In New York.....

It looks like he deleted but basically in a nut shell someone tweeted him that now that he's on the Mariners he'll never make it to the playoffs and he responded back saying "you'll never get laid" and the person responded saying he was engaged and Morrison responded back "do you like to give it or receive it" or something like that to imply the other person was gay.

EDIT: here's a screen grab of it: https://twitter.com/Lana/status/411216969010913282/photo/1

I understand the logic of it, its just not what I anticipated. Colon had the best ERA of any FA SP and they want to eat Harvey's innings with as much quality as possible; it just wasnt the player I thought they would sign. They also can flip Colon after this year for a different piece or simply slot him further down in the rotation when Syndergaard, DeGrom, Fulmer, etc are ready. They are loaded with good arms. Also consider....
Kazmir got 2/22 (from Oakland no less)
    Scott Feldman got 3/30
Who knows what Garza and Ervin Santana will get
    Hudson 2/23
    Hughes 3/24
Haren 1/10 (Thats who I thought the Mets would go after since he learned the division a bit with Washington)
    Nolasco 4/49
Kuroda 1/16 (he was bad the last 2 months)
    Jason Vargas 4/32

Colon's contract doesnt look so bad.

Mets right away flipped that pickup to LAD for a PTBNL

Me either, He took the money, cant hate on him for getting paid. The thing i dont get about it though, is that the Yankees were offering 25 million a year, so im not sure how he can feel disrespected by that number. I think both him and the Yankees made mistakes, I think he is going to regret leaving, I think the Mariners are going to be looking to trade him in 3 or 4 years. But i dont hate him.

More ridiculousness from the commissioners office re: the Yankees. Levine was just using him as an example. The Yankee hate from Bud is out of control.

Dealing Ackley would nullify the POINT of these big moves IMO. This is potentially the best M's lineup we've seen since Griff-Buhner-Edgar days.

Yes that includes the Bret Boone steriod era.

I don't understand the love for Ackley, and I used to be a big fan when he first came up. last year he had one good month of august and finished .304 after the all star break but after the great august he hit bad in september again.

He's pretty good at defense tho, and brings speed. He will be a good utility player, but he shouldn't be unavailable to trade.

Nappy what do you think about the Loney deal? I'm personally not a fan of it, I think he had his career year last year I wouldn't have given him 3 years.

When I first heard 3 years my first thought was to long. However, someone else brought up a good point. Unless he just completely falls on his face at the plate, at 7 million, that contract can easily be moved. For a A+ defender it wouldn't be hard to trade him. I like the deal and although he might not repeat, he still should be good.

Ackley ultimately may now end up at CF, but he's a solid plug in situationally IMO.

He may never hit .300 but he's like 24 or 25 so I can see him as a solid bottom of the order guy who has flexibility at other positions. He's just one of those guys IMO.

Take it with a grain of salt because even though I have the MLB ticket....82 of those games are on during my bed time.

Im sure TB and no one else wanted to go the 3rd year but everyone is getting the extra year this offseason. Im sure the Mets wanted 1 year on Colon, the A's wanted 1 on Kazmir, Im sure Houston only wanted 2 on Feldman instead of 3....the list just goes on. Some of these guys are getting PAID for mediocrity. Its pretty messed up when the first thing I want to give my nephew is a baseball...hes 7 months old by the way...get that arm going Max.
