    Hes gotta be gone, no?

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...-tannehill-lost-confidence-in-oc-mike-sherman

Interesting that Tanne lost confidence in his biggest cheerleader......dude wasnt putting RT in the best position to be succesful imo.

Alot of RTs success this year came despite Sherman.....not because of him IMO

Sherman tried to shackle RT back in the pocket. RT is at his best when he is using his feet. Roll outs, option runs, etc. Playing calling was predictable and uninspired. RT has the tools to be a top tier QB, but he needs to be put in an offense that utilizes his talents, not one that makes him conform to its demands.

Really makes me want Jay Gruden or Gus Malzaun (sp?)......offensive innovators.....young guns.

I think Sherman should be fired immediately. But...Tannehill has to own some of this. Whenever he was pressured, he fell to the ground as fast as he could. Sometimes a defender would hit Tannehill with his hand as he's going by him, and he would fall for a sack. Also he needs to accept he missed several long TDs to Wallace bacause he couldn't hit a wide open receiver down field.

There's some truth to that but there's some negative as well.
Part of developing a QB like Tanny IS teaching them to become a well rounded QB so they can function effectively in all situations. That includes teaching him to function in a pocket and fully reading defenses. If you think you should just leave him alone and let him function only on movement defenses will adjust and he'll be useless. That said, Sherman had more issues then simply expecting Tanny to learn to be an effective pocket passer so I'm hoping he's gone.

I don't really remember him falling by being touched. I remember more of him stepping through the first rusher and being nailed by his own lineman getting manhandled quite often though.

Not saying you're wrong, just that I cant clearly remember.

I will never understand why some think that having a quarterback making full field reads from the pocket is "shackling" said quarterback. If anything, when you limit your quarterback to half field reads on the roll, you are shackling your quarterback to a greater extent because you limit the reads he has to make. How many quarterbacks have done will with just half field reads long term?

I don't think anyone is saying "Hey lets move the pocket every play".

Its more along the lines of "Our line is terrible, we should help them out with a rollout a couple times to keep the defense honest"

You can incorporate movement without screwing up development.

Remember that for all of Mike Sherman's being Tannehill's biggest cheerleader, he was the guy that picked someone to start over Ryan Tannehill at Texas A&M not once, but TWICE, and had Ryan move to wide receiver.

So let's not pretend Tannehill would be stabbing the dude in the back by telling trusted friends that he's losing confidence in what Sherman is calling.

You realize 2 of the 3 INTS weren't solely his fault, that he had no WRs worth a penny except Wallace and the worst ogfensive line in football right?

I'm not saying he's blameless. I'm saying context is our friend.

Come on, lets not act like those 3 INTs had any significant bearing in the outcome of the game. Of the 3, the only really crippling one was the first one, and that was just unfortunate as Wallace slipped in the route. The other 2 were garbage time.

KB21 that is what I am getting at. I don't want RT to become a scramble first, pass second kind of QB. But it was obvious in college and the past two years that RT is incredibly dangerous on the roll out. You bring in 7-10 designed roll outs and I think the offense would have been much more dangerous. He has good speed and agility from playing WR, and has great ability to throw on the run, let him use it.

Also I would put half of those long passes that RT missed to Wallace on Wallace. Sure a few were underthrown, but that happens. Wallace should have come back to a few of them and the couple that RT overthrew wallace... He slowed his speed and tried to burst to catch up to it too late. They have not developed the chemistry needed yet. I hope they spend a lot of time together this offseason.

Actually, I think that is exactly what some want. I don't have the exact numbers, but the Dolphins rolled Ryan out plenty this year. The fact that the entire passing game wasn't based on this is one reason why I think some are saying that we didn't "utilize him properly" or some such other BS.

My point is that he didn't come through. He's got a bit of jekyll and hyde in him, IMO. We'll know (for sure) that he's not a Franchise QB if he gets a new OC and fails to deliver again next year.

Who else should we have drafted to play QB? The only one drafted later than RT doing better is Russel Wilson and that was pure blind luck by Pete Carroll. Foles was a disappointment last year and has been doing well this year with Chip Kelly's Blur Offense. Lets see what happens with that when NFL defenses figure it out.

I lost confidence in it 4 weeks ago, called him out and got bashed for it here because everyone here was on a high just because we were winning. CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE IF THEY WON. They did not want to see the fact that despite our wins our offense is struggling hard out there. Too many incomplete drives.

This old geezer is running 1980's schemes out there, Tannehill has become another robot like Henne was under Henning because of it, I don't believe Tannehill has much control to make his own calls/adjustments. It's ridiculous to me that FOLES, barely being part of the Kelly system, is allowed to have more audibles on the line than Tannehill - a guy that has been under Sherman for 5 years now? Even the West Coast Offense has had a few new wrinkles. If you don't see the difference between Mike McCarthy's offense and Sherman's, then you're blind.

And yes you can point out how great Sherman's "offense" was in Green Bay, but guess what? Brett Favre was Brett Favre, he improvised so much against Sherman's authority and Sherman dealt with it because Green Bay was Brett Favre and Brett would have shown him the door and the fans would have backed him for it.

I want Philbin to get Tannehill an offensive coordinator that instructs speed and spread, I don't care if it's another west coast scheme as long as I am seeing more hurry up plays being called, I want a faster offense I think that would benefit Tannehill most. I also want the new GM to get Tannehill a new tight end/red zone thread like Ebron in the draft, he would be great next to Clay.

After watching Cincy play yesterday I really feel like that type of approach is one that we need on offense. They attack and attack and keep pressure on the defense. Yes they have a better overall set of skill players than we do but its the approach of Jay Gruden that I really like. He does not let up and he keeps the defense on its heels. I think Tannehill is a more talented Qb than Dalton and Jay would really bring a lot to the table here. If Cincy gets far in the playoffs I'd say he will be a very serious candidate for a HC job. His experience in the Arena league gives him a new perspective on offense, I like it a lot. Maybe we can get Jon and Jay to run the show here, that would be very interesting.

It may very well be true that he's lost confidence in Sherman, in fact, every fan and probably every player has to this point. I just don't hold with reports from these guys anymore. Rappaport is no better than Shefter or Mando for that matter in reliablilty. Don't take too much stock in this crap... We can suppose or likely, at some point, find out for sure, but at this point, it's all conjecture...nothing stable or reliable...

Kind of like what we complained about years ago with Big Bad Bill Arnsparger... The time had passed him by... And Sherman is right there with that synopsis....

I absolutely agree, Tanne will be a better QB going forward by owning the pocket first but damn! at what point do you stop all that and make adjustments to keep your possible franchise from getting killed? I'm really surprised that he only banged his knee up this season and didn't suffer any serious injuries. roll that damn pocket now and then to keep the freakin' D more honest for God's sake!! sheesh...

Serious Question: When has Adam Schefter or Chris Mortensen ever reported on something that turned out to be wrong?

It happens like 1 out of a 100. Ian Rappaport wouldn't report this if it weren't true. These guys don't just make these things up.

Well Philbin is now blaming Tannehill by saying something like that. He may be cutting his own throat but remember, if he gets fired he still gets paid and Green Bay has a job waiting for him.

no shock here. i have been saying it all year. the guy is our weakest link and the worst playcaller i have ever seen. this offense has talent, and a guy like malzahn would put up 28-30 ppg even with this o-line. to counter our weak o-line we should have been throwing more swings and flares to our rbs in the shotgun (not screens), and we should have been utilizing tannehill in the read option 8-10 times a game. those things would have controlled the safeties and opened up the middle of the field to attack with clay and wallace deep.

Honestly, you're right about that but I really didn't like Adam Schefter's bitterness that his sources were being called out on last week about Dallas. Even went on to report "Dallas is just saying this to keep the Eagles guessing/gameplanning around who will be the starting quarterback". You're reporting the news, not team's strategy, be a bit more professional just because Garrett went against your "report".
