I'm at the point where if we fired Jeff Ireland to replace him with an ACTUAL Dolphin, I'd have more confidence in the aquatic mammal, and be positive said Dolphin would publicly embarass us less frequently.

    BTW:

    Martin/Cogs is one,
IS YOUR MOM A WHORE, DEZ is two,

Whats the third black eye for Ireland? The Sparano / Harbaugh saga? Or do we lay that on Ross?

    Is there something else?

    Otherwise, Dolphin for GM.

I still think we should replace him with one of those smoking monkeys.
If for no other reason than the visual of said monkey sitting in the pressbox when CBS cuts to him.

    Exactly.

Yesterday Armando had sources talking about "significant changes". Today he has egg on his face and he has this dog ate my homework excuse. Ross was expecting to make the playoffs so he never considered makin changes till after the Jets game? Ha ah ha aha haa.

I get it though. Armando is struggling to keep his BS narrative together, Firelanders are struggling to keep hope alive, and Im sitting back enjoying the show.

No he wasn't with Harbaugh.....we still had our old Head Coach on the staff. No coach worth a **** is going to take a job with another coach still on the staff, its just not done. That type of move has kind of symbolized our HC searches and the ineptness of our front office. It made us look like a horribly run organization and justifiably so.

A daggum good question, one that I've pondered because of how counter-intuitive Ross's behavior as an owner has been, in the face of his success in another business.

Have you ever known a person who was brilliant in ONE thing, but lacking in most others? Computer geeks are a good example; brilliant at understanding something that most of us can't grasp, but lacking in most other parts of life, especially social skills. I think this is the area where ross fits in.

Ross strikes me as a guy who is a savant—or close to it—in real estate. He has a savant's singular focus on the one thing, and he preternaturally good at it.

But his behavior during his Dolphins tenure indicates that he's uncomfortable with the less-pleasant sides of business. I would bet that he is smart in one more way: he always knew his limitations, or at least realized what he couldn't do well, and hired competent business managers to discharge those responsibilities, letting him concentrate on what he did well. And that's how I believe it has gone down his whole life, and the arrangement has been very fruitful.

But what that has done is left him even further behind the curve in the real world of business, where you have to live and die by your hires, and fire people when necessary; in a world where unpleasant tasks must be met head-on. Even in the face of scandals like the two Incognito incidents and the one where we missed the playoffs after scoring only seven points in the final two games, he still procrastinates when virtually the whole world knows what needs to be done..

He is a flawed man with what is always a fatal weakness in business.

That's why I'd like to see a strong President with winning experience—Cowher or Dungy—take over the football operation, reporting directly to Ross and with everyone else reporting to him and him only.

Ok now try to ignore the silly media aspects that have everyone brainwashed, and lets attempt to make a real assessment of how the GM performed at his duties. It seems the most outspoken critics are completely incapable, just aimlessly firing upon the bullseye presented to them.

To add, one would think that some here would be excited by the change in mindset from Ross standing pat, to considering making changes. but alas, it's all about what the owner expected on Sunday, a win over the Jets (something that looked 60% certain). How dare he actually expect a win? What a ****ing clueless moron eh?

Sometimes the best move is the one you don't make.

Name me a better coach than Philbin that the Dolphins can realistically get (remember Harbaugh and Fisher). Keep in mind that there already are six vacancies to compete with and we're not the most attractive one.

Name me a better GM than Ireland, that 1) the Dolphins can realistically get, and 2) who will want to keep Philbin and this carousel of coordinators.

It's not that easy. If you're not careful, all of the sudden you have Mike Shanahan in bermuda shorts and his second cousin playing GM because he has Madden experience.

    Allow me.

Ross isn't firing anyone. Ireland stays. Philbin is free to make changes on the coaching staff as he sees fit.

Why? Ross wants continuity, a consistent winner, and he's willing to be patient. He's publicly said these things. Like anyone else he's pissed about the last two games. But he's not a dumb fan, when he calls for heads to roll they actually roll and then he has to find new heads. He's not going to blow up his plan bc of a couple bad games. At the same time he has to show that he's on top of things and not satisfied with 8-8, even if he secretly accepts it as part of the process, so he's "looking at everything".

Exactly. The #1 reason Ross wasn't able to hire Harbaugh is because the Dolphins are in Florida, not Northern California. He wanted to stay there. His wife wanted to stay there. If not for the chance to coach the 9rs he'd still be at Stanford.

I'm disagreeing that this regime is capable of producing a winner.
Continuity is only good if it's positive. Negative or losing continuity is a sign that change is needed.

I do not understand how a man with 0 playoff wins in the last 5 seasons, and a sub five hundred record the last 4 years deserves this kind of loyalty.

This is a RESULTS business. His RESULTS suck. As a RESULT, he should be fired.

I'm fine with continuity, but if I'm going to continue with someone, that someone will be competent at his job. I don't let a nurse keep her job because I like her. She keeps her job because she is competent at her job.

Jeff Ireland is not competent at his job. There is no upside to keeping him.

Ok, so you're switching to a different team? I mean it isn't as if anyone here wants to go 7-9 or 8-8 (or worse), but aside from stopping to support a team, you can't really do anything to truly show it isn't good enough for you. And just because someone has a different feeling about what may be best doesn't mean "mediocrity" is good enough for them either.

Who judges Gms on playoff records, all while acknowledging the coaching has been sub par ? It would be like saying a WR sucks because he hasn't caught enough touchdowns from a terrible QB.

The third public black eye by the way was Ireland calling a season ticket holder an @sshole. Regardless of whether the fan was rude or not, Ireland never should have said that. He later lied too, saying he swore it was under his breath and he doesn't know how the fan heard it. But a bunch of people heard it, that's how it got out in the first place (the dude in question only confirmed it after it got out), and you don't get a bunch of people on a loud concourse hearing something whispered under a guy's breath. But Jeff Ireland is that kind of guy. He lies at need.

Ireland has personally fined Dolphins players (Channing Crowder named two such fines) for less. The Jets (under heavy suggestion from the league) meted punishment upon Rex Ryan when he was caught flipping the bird on cell phone cam, but at least that was to a rival team's fan, not a loyal buyer of New York Jets season tickets.
