I'm due to graduate with my associates in CJ in April. I'm being advised to go on to Behavioral Science for my BA. I have several issues.

    1) I have student loans. These need to be paid off. My seasonal job just ended. I want to start paying these off ASAP because interest.
    2) I am not sure I want to do Behavioral Science. I am thinking of doing a different BA. This means (possibly) transferring schools to a school where my credits will not all transfer.
    3) This is a setback as far as completion is concerned, but I would much rather be happier with my BA at the end than to just graduate with all credits earlier because I can
    4) I am thinking of doing History, or something with computers (Network Security?).

    If I do History:

What jobs are available? Is the pay decent enough to make a living off of?
If I don't do History, then what major do I want to do?

It's a good thing I have other things that need tending to before I can make these decisions.

I just wanted an outlet. These are the things on my mind. There's nothing I'm really "outreaching" for, but I am curious to know what your thoughts on all this are. My best subject in school is History that's why I'm thinking about majoring in it. Plus, I'm passionate about it.

    Happy New Year!

I considered history back before I enrolled in school, and the most common thing I could find was teacher. I didn't want to teach, so that was out. I was 16/17 though, so maybe I just wasn't searching right.

If you were graduating with an engineering degree and a willingness to travel, I could've totally put in a word for you.

I hope it works out for you, but my 2 cents would be go with computers between those two options.

I could always dual major. One for $ one for myself...

If you go liberal arts, particularly history, then teaching is the first option. Otherwise you could look at the park service or a civil service career where the degree is more important than the major. Do you like to write? Then a publisher might need an editor or a university press. Check with the placement service of a school you are looking at and ask them.

I've thought of a teacher or I guess a park service (something Civil War related probably). Yes, I love to write.

If you go the history route and do not teach then you need to haunt your placement office looking for an internship in your field. Be creative.

I had a parishioner whose daughter was majoring in art history. He was distraught that she would never find a job, be on his charity, etc., her whole life. Instead she sold herself on an internship to a big, big bank and designed a job where she traveled around the world buying art for their offices/branches. It was considered some of their institutional investment. She made more in her first year than Dad ever had! While that story is remarkable, stories and opportunities are out there.
