I've actually heard whispers that Arod started using as far back as high school but it's obviously unconfirmed. But with Arod can you dismiss that he was taking PEDs when he was in tee-ball?
Good article about Jonah Keri and the Arod suspension. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-t...ion-means-for-the-yankees-his-future-and-more The take away from it is that even with Arod's salary off the books, the Yankees luxury tax commitments are anywhere from 178 to 186 million so far. And that's without signing anyone else.
With the way this stuff gets in and out of the bloodstream these days, I would venture to guess that A-Rod isn't the first or the last to do it...
Oh no way, I knew of kids in my own high school on PEDs for sports and they weren't even being looked at by scouts or even really that good. They just did it to get bigger muscles and thought it would automatically make them better players.
I know kids on my baseball team that took them and went pretty far. Edit: I chose not to, simply because I was afraid. Who knows if it would of changed anything.
(1) MLB & MLBPA agreed that 50-100-lifetime scheme in Section 7.A.2. of the JDA did not apply. (2) Parties agreed 7.G.2 applied instead (3) Section 7.G.2. is a just cause standard that applies if none of the other sections do. Still unclear to me why the union conceded this (4) Arb held there “clear & convincing evidence” of “continuous & prolonged use or possession of multiple substances.” (5) Arb found Bosch credible, when combined with the documentary evidence. He rejected A-Rod’s expert witness on the science of PEDs (6) Arb found 2 instances of A-Rod obstructing the investigation — inducing Bosch into lying, and asking Bosch to sign false affidavit (7) Arb rejected A-Rod and union complaints that MLB’s conduct mitigated against a long suspension. Arb found MLB’s conduct appropriate Arbitrator’s written opinion is an even bigger victory for MLB than I anticipated. All of A-Rod’s and the union’s arguments were rejected
Good for you Nappy, smart move......even though HGH is relatively natural human hormone, nobody know long term effects or what else these injections and orals are even made with.
Was watching Mark DeRosa on MLB channel last night and he hit it on the head perfectly, about A-Rod and the new possible drug program.. With A-Rod he was just like, what is he trying to get at? whats the point of fighting everything tooth and nail. That if he thinks it is to save his imagine, it was gone years ago? The City doesn't like him anymore, the league doesn't respect him anymore, etc. Money? He has made over 350M in salary alone. Just what is the point? To boot, he goes and sues the ONLY entity that stood up for him (union). I mean it really makes no sense to me and is all just very bizarre. Then they had a blurb of Matt Holiday on talking about the possibility of a new joint drug prevention program. He said nobody cares about the 50 game suspension (gave the example of Perralta), and if the sport was serious about cleaning it up he would do 1st offense 162 and 2nd offense career and you would see guys stop.
Why in the world would anyone really try to make sense of Arod? People should spend their time better like trying to come up with the meaning of life or time travel or something like that.... I really do wonder what would have happened to Arod and his legacy if he went to Boston in the winter of 2003/2004 instead of New York or if he just stayed in Texas for 3 more years opted out and went somewhere else. The easy answer is that nothing would have changed but it makes you wonder. I really have no issues with the Matt Holliday's new testing suspension idea.
I mean I think in the end wherever he ended up he was doing this stuff, so this would have been placed onto that team who ended up having him in the end. But what would have been more interesting is that after he opted out would he have stuck with Texas, Boston etc....Sadly I think the Yankees would have got him at that point regardless.... Also I forgot DeRosa was flabbergasted to think that A-Rod is going to show up at ST with guys who are preparing for 162 and be like "Hey guys!" lol.... That is certainly going to be interesting...
Yeah probably, although I do think him being a Yankee might have led to the original report he did PEDs to come out in 2008 or 2009. Obviously no matter where he was playing the Borsch stuff would have came out. Arod showing up in ST is an obvious FU to the Yankees and the MLB. He's only doing it for the attention. It makes no sense for him to be there and if I were the Yankees and he does show up they should just stick him in the minor league camp on the back fields away from everyone.
It is going to be interesting because remember, technically he isn't on their 40-man roster this year so I am assuming he is considered that no? So many different questions involving Alexander Emmanuel....
The can and will relegate him to the minor league complex. You have to think Derek is going to become vocal about this soon. I wish Alex would just go away, crawl into a hole and leave baseball alone.
I'd be shocked if Jeter said anything about this, as he's never been one to say anything about Arod good or bad in public nor has every said anything even remotely controversial.
I agree Jeter while being vocal about baseball, is never vocal about anything controversial. Just not in his make-up. He will address it at ST along with retirement, but i believe that is where it stays and the media respects Jeter's wishes so if he says "thats all I am going to say about it" they will leave him be IMO.
I actually don't think he'll talk about it, he has no reason to, he'll simply just say "no comment" or something along that.
Sorry, Ill rephrase, not to the media, but to Alex himself. like look buddy, "do what's right here, and keep the media circus away from ST"
Maybe, I don't know Jeter doesn't sound or seem like that type of player/guy. Plus would Arod really listen to him or anyone else at this point? He's going to do whatever he wants.
Yeah FFG, I really think A-Rod is going to do whatever the hell he wants, that is the beauty of A-Rod, he really doesn't give 2 ****s...and at this point Jeter is a lame duck in his last year,.....
Well Jeter did comment on Arod: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/16/derek-jeter-is-saddened-by-the-a-rod-situation/ “As a teammate, you’re saddened by the whole thing. The whole thing has been kind of messy . . . he’s human. I’m sure it’s a rough situation.” Typical Jeter, and I mean that in a good way.
lol was just going to post it...... and then theres Alex......Alexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (insert awesome Fink A-Rod quote here) http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/01/16/a-rod-breaks-silence-calls-season-long-suspension-a-favor/
If Arod really feels this way he should drop his appeal then right? Seriously though maybe not today, tomorrow, next week, next month or next year but people will look back at Arod and his career and it will be sad. The guy had the world and the game by the balls and pissed it all away because of his ego. Its sad that when he finally retires he'll simply disappear because no one is going to want him around. When the Yankees do old timer's day he won't be invited, he'll never have his number retired, never throw out the first pitch at a playoff game., never be invited to ST to help as an instructor. I doubt the Mariners or Rangers will ever bring him back for that stuff either. Whether you like the guy or not it is sad that one of the best all around players in the game will be a ghost.
Perfectly said.....eh don't feel bad for him...A) he did it to himself and B) Over 350M made in salary at press time....
I don't either because at the end of the day it's all on him. But it is sad when the sports biggest talents and stars get blackballed for whatever the reason.
What's really sad is that he didn't have to juice, he was that good. Its too bad he's so insecure that he can't ever come off as genuine and or do the right thing.
Look at Barry Bonds... the guy was a 2-time MVP before he left Pitt, talk about a guy who didnt need to do anything....
Cervelli settled for 700k non guaranteed. Fangraphs had him in the million range, I guess the suspension and injuries played a part. But this is exactly why players on the cusp of ML talent will continue to use PEDs. No incentive not to. 50 games and he gets rewarded with more money than a teacher makes in 10 years.
Call me nuts, I think A-Rod should juice his freaking face off this whole year, and then come back in 2015 and mash hahahahaha..... Seriously what does he have to lose? If he gets banned for life, he is all set monetarily...
Well the MLB still tests players that are suspended but then again Arod with whatever he was using never failed a drug test anyway.
This is why I find it hard to sometimes knock guys that do take PEDs. Imagine you're a 14 or 15 year old kid from the DR or somewhere else in Latin America and your house is literally a shack with dirt floors. If you can take this "magicial" pill that will make you stronger and heal quicker and could make you a multi-millionaire and thus get you and your family out of poor living conditions why the hell not?
I do think the MLB's testing is the best it could be. The problem is and always will be that the makers and takers will always been one or two steps ahead of the testers.
Totally agree. I've said this before, As A Fan, I Want Offense. If Steroids Provide Entertainment, Then Rock On. It's Not My Body.
It's true. I know if I there was an injection or pill to make me better at my job, I'd be all over it.
