QUESTION: Will Hickey be a better GM than Ireland????

Yes because philbin, aponte, and hickey will have a unified vision.

 

I told myself before the hire that I was 100% sure the next guy couldn't possibly be any worse than Ireland...after this sad *** hire, I'm more like 60% sure he won't be worse.

 

How is anyone supposed to know that? All we can do is hope.

Well being better than Ireland is not very hard to accomplish. Ireland left no bar, you don't have to look up to see what he accomplished here, just stare at the ground and that's where we are because of Ireland. But reading some of the stuff about Dennis makes me feel very ill about this hire.

 

I voted no for two reasons.

1) I dont think Ireland was as bad as portrayed by our fan base.

2) I didn't like the hire.


I do hope he proves me wrong. I have no agenda, I just didn't like the choice at all.

I think the poll results of this are about to be amazing.

Consider this. Jeff Ireland's job approval rating on most public polls were at about 10 to 20% prior to his firing.

And this guy will WALK IN THE DOOR with a lower approval rating.

No. Under few circumstances can Hickey be less incompetent and do things like ask if players moms are hookers, draft players anyway despite knowing players are not mentally stable (Martin), not scare off free agents and Dolphin players by being perceived as a cut-throat GM who views players as a piece of meat (Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder), etc. Bad signings happen with any GM. Bad draft picks happen with any GM. I can accept those things. I cant accept a GM that has no idea what the hell hes doing or how to conduct him/her self.

 

I will shut my eyes, cross my fingers just pray that he is.
But I have little confidence.

 

Is it possible to be worse than Ireland? He's like the Mendoza line for football.

 

I don't think the hooker question was out of line honestly, though he could have phrased it better. Like "What exactly does you mother do for your father"

 

No. I wish we had a functional organization.

 

Honestly...I cant say yet. Id like to hear from him...his thoughts on our team..on the draft. I refuse to make any judgments till I have something to go on.

I voted better...mostly because I don't think he'll be around as long as Jeff Ireland was. But, in essence, I sort of feel like Joe Philbin is the one pulling the strings on the 2014 Dolphins.

 

The better question is will Hickey be around long enough to prove he's better than Ireland.

I voted yes just because Im sick of all the negative posts. Most of us knew jack **** about GM's a month ago. Now all of a sudden everyone sounds like they should quit their current jobs and hit the NFL running..

 

No, he'll probably be worse. Jeff Ireland had major roster management issues, but in terms of raw acquisition of talent he was better than most guys in the league.

 

My thoughts exactly. The people who didn't want him or have forecast dark days ahead for Miami under his watch will vote no. The people who like him, or are willing to give him a chance as the Dolphins GM before judging him will probably vote yes. The optimists will vote yes. The pessimists or as they like to call themselves, the realists, will probably vote no.

I'll say the same gawd damn thing I been saying since he was hired. We are stuck with him now for the foreseeable future, so I am going to give him a chance to see the moves he makes before making negative comments about his ability. Since he has never had final say, no one can accurately know how he'll do when having it. Even if he did have final say before, he didn't, but if he did, that is still no guarantee he'll be the same, better or worse than he did at his previous job.
As I recall, when he was at Dallas, Ireland did a good enough job, that most of the fans posting here were very positive about his being hired. I know I was. We see how that turned out.
I know 90% of you are too young to remember Miami's first GM, Joe Thomas. He did a remarkable job of building the roster that went to 3 straight Super Bowls in the 70s. After that, he later got a job as the 49ers GM. He was so the complete opposite there. Made a lot of terrible decisions personnel wise, like trading for an over the hill and broken down OJ Simpson. He gave up a 1st, two 2nds, a 3rd and a 4th round pick for OJ. He lasted 2 seasons in SF, played in 23 total games and gained 1053 yards at about 3.7 a carry. Their fans despised him far worse than most of us despise Ireland. His failed regime though was the predecessor to the Walsh regime though, so it all worked out fine in the long run for the 49ers. In between his tenure in Miami and his time in SF, he was also the GM of the Colts. His success there was also very poor.
My conclusion is that no matter how good or bad Hickey did in TB, it cannot be an accurate predictor of how he'll do when it comes to personnel accrual in Miami.

 

In other news, over 40% of Dolphins fans are misinformed.

Clearly we think Jeff is terrible. They think hickey is terrible.

Venn diagrams suggest 30% of Florida fans think BOTH are terrible.

Right which is why i said Ireland had no idea how to conduct himself. If he phrases the question like you did its part of a conversation. If he says "Is your mom a hooker? its Jeff Ireland being Jeff ireland. Its not always what you say but how you say it.

 

I think it's certainly possible Dennis Hickey could be every bit as mediocre at being a GM as Jeff Ireland. Maybe even worse. But I doubt he will be the embarrassment to this franchise that Jeff Ireland was.

I doubt he will ask if anyone's mother was a whore.

I doubt he will jettison arguably the best offensive player on the roster for a pair of 3rd rounders.

I would hope he won't be the epic dick head that Jeff Ireland was.

By law of averages, he will probably hit on more 2nd round picks than Jeff Ireland. Even if he's fired after 2 years.

I certainly hope there will be no Incognito/Martin like scandals on his watch.

 

If he is in over his head then I can easily see him embarrassing the franchise by making monumentally bad trades. I would not presume anything about him good or bad at this point.

 

Chances are he will be better, it'll take some superb expertise to suck more than Ireland.

 

You know that I've been doing research on this guy. And not message board fan research. Talking to actual people in the know. While I can't divulge details, let's just say that I SPECIFICALLY don't agree with the above four statements, and have evidence to back up why I don't agree.

 

Even the mother whore statement? Jeez, I want to know what's the story behind this guy.

 

In all due respect, if you can`t / won`t divulge any info then why the hell would you post this to begin with. If you have evidence more power to you, but what the hell does that do for the rest of us ?

 

I'd love to know what information you have that leads you to believe you think he will ask a player if his mother is a whore. Please, at least share that.

Let me preface this with saying I appreciate the information you bring to this board. I was also curious to your opinions on the hire, and thought they would probably be bad. But I have to say this post comes off as really snarky. If you're not willing to divulge the info you have, why even mention it? Just to put me down, and my "message board fan research"?

I'm not arguing or disagreeing with you. I've been of the opinion that this hiring process was ****ed from the get go. I'm not surprised it's resulted in a ****ty hire.
