Came across this snippet, haven't seen it anywhere on here and it caught me by surprise. I really hope they give RT this whole year with a rebuilt OL and then see what he can do. But to somehow say RT has been a major problem on this team I disagree. Has he done some boneheaded moves? Of course but it is the natural development of an NFL QB...

    Thoughts?

I'm hoping Philbin just wanted to motivate Tannehill to push himself to a higher level.

But then, maybe it's just the truth and it leaked and Philbin either:
    a) Knows more about Tannehill's limitations than we do
    b) Trusted Sherman too much, and Sherman thought so much of Tannehill he started him at WR in college. not a stretch to think that before being fired, and amidst rumors Tannehill was blaming the play-calling and going rogue that Sherman himself said some things about Tannehill being limited or having deficiencies. Not a stretch to think Philbin believed him too.
    c) Has poor judgement
    d) Holds a slight grudge against Tannehill because in the situation that got Sherman fired, Philbin fought hard to resist firing him… he likely felt Sherman was being scapegoated and reports of Tannehill's frustration with the playcalling may have made Philbin feel the QB helped bury Sherman (thank God he did, imo). Does Philbin trust Tannehill as a loyal soldier? Remember, this is the coach who didn't seem too keen on keeping a single member of the outspoken leadership council. I don't think Philbin deals well AT ALL with dissent, or outside the lines actions by players.

I can see that, however I cant see or get behind a reason to pull RT in favor of MM.....It yet again makes me judge JP and his judgement, it reeks of vendetta to me....Miami knows hell we know what MM brings to the table. The jury is still out on RT at least to me it is anyway...

Philbin is looking for a scape goat, in February.

Should have fired the non de-script ******* when they had the chance.

IF we bench a healthy Ryan Tannehill for one single ****ing snap, in favour of Matt Moore, I'm done with the sport until Philbin is fired.

No. It's clearly not on the line, it does however make for a better line than coach wants player to step uo.

Honestly....Tannehill's job should be on the line. Any QB who quits thinking that way....will slowly begin to fade. Every QB is just a hit away from the backup coming in, and who knows what happens then.

I think Tannehill will be an amazing QB for us. But he hasnt earned anything yet. I think what LaCon stated was not anything more then the obvious.

Philbin stated these things in private conversations with the various GM candidates. It has absolutely nothing to do with trying to motivate Tannehill; this stuff wasn't supposed to get out.

Please explain by what logic Joe Philbin would expect a one on one conversation with a GM candidate about roster direction and planning to get out into the media and back to Ryan Tannehill. I'm all ears.

But hey, it's easier to post a GIF than it is to have to support a position, so I don't expect much from you.

Your position wasn't worth much more than a gif.

I don't chose to believe every silly little tale JLC likes to throw out for hits, but if you do then feel free to waste your time.

The whole premise in your first post is comical. Philbin might be dumb but I sincerely doubt any HC would be dumb enough to do what you're suggesting.

NFL stands for Not For Long

90% of players are a bad few games away from watching the game on the sideline AT BEST

I don't take issue with this. If the team burns a high pick on a QB or brings in a pricey veteran QB to push RT, that's when I'll think there is more than the expected talk when a young QB lays a few eggs to end a disappointing year.

Really, this coming year, I don't think it's about statistics as much as it is about wins. It's Tannehill's third year. Win 10 or more and playoffs galore! Good statistics will lead to that, but regardless, he's going to need to get us in the dance, or he's going to be questioned. The GM and coaches need to do the best they can to put guys on the field that can play, both offensively and defensively, and Lazor in particular needs to do a good job calling plays and keeping our offense doing things where they're successful.

But in the end, this is going to be the year. I love Tannehill, really like his demeanor, and I think he's got the goods. However, if we aren't in the playoffs by this year, there are going to be a lot of questions. His record will likely still be .500 or lower if we don't make the playoffs, and despite all his physical gifts, he's going to look like a potential journeyman.

As far as this leak... I don't really even care. If we go to Matt Moore, our season will have been sunk prior to that, imo. I don't anticipate that, though. I think Tannehill and the offense will blossom. But that's, of course, dependent on my expectation of having a better line and at least a little better running game. Then, I'm also crossing my fingers Lazor is an upgrade from Sherman. Also, if we're scoring more on offense, there's a good chance we'll being holding the ball longer, which will mean our defense will give up less points on the whole.

We'll have a better feel after FA and the draft as far as O-line projections and our running game. Defense as well. But, yeah, I sort of think this is a make or break season for Tannehill. I definitely think it is for Philbin, and their fates seem tied.

The only thing I can come up with is that he lost a lot of faith in Tannehill over the last 2 games. In a way I couldn't blame him but it certainly wasn't all on Tannehill's shoulders. Philbin may also have been letting any GM candidates know that he is flexible at the Qb position or he might be trying to save his job by blaming someone else for the team's failures. Either way its kind of cowardly to me personally.

Agreed... and a little tired of the "anonymous sources" BS... as for Moore, he shat the bed in the Bills game when in relief of Tannehill. You'd think that would have finally shut the Start Moore gang up. I'd just as soon trade Moore and promote Devlin and draft a guy in the later rounds. Additionally, if Philbin was that damn concerned about the QB play, he would have replaced Zac Taylor with an accomplished QB coach instead of Sherman's SIL and film boy.

Tannehill is a work in progress, but he IS progressing. Fix the fooking oline, get a running game, and get more balanced on offense. Wilson and Foles succeeded because they had positive ground games and aggressive receivers. Tannehill has carried this team for the past 2 seasons with inconsistent and spotty help from the rest of the offense. If anyone needs motivation, it should be Wallace, Matthews, Miller, Jerry, Clabo, and the TEs.

Looking forward to how Hickey addresses the Tackles, Guards, Backs, and LBs... basically the positions Ireland struggled with each season...

We started the season off with fumbles from the QB position at an absolutely remarkable rate. I think we cut that in half or better with a new line assuming the FO can produce a competent one. INT's I think he cuts down on with a new line and a better running game. He had the 7th most attempts in the league 4/6 ahead of him are former Super Bowl Champions and the other two are prolific guys in Stafford and Ryan. An effective running game would cut down those attempts and his INT's most likely. Philly's propensity to run the ball gives me hope that Lazor would be willing if we get an effective back (Seastrunk or Sankey please), heck, I'd love BOTH of those guys. I expect him to statistically improve regardless. 28-30 TD's, 4,200 yards, 12 INT's, 7.0 YPA. The issue is whether or not he can make the plays at the right time. I do like the guy at the end of games though.

To be fair, posts like that did come up here, from advocating use of a high pick on a quarterback in this upcoming draft to starting Moore. I'm not going to act as if Tannehill's perfect. He's not. But at the same time, when a player shows a lot of improvement despite having no competition for his job, I don't think it's necessary to bring in competition for him.

I want 3.5/4 to 1 TD to Int ratio, a Rating of 90 and above, completion% of 64 or better, atleast 3 long TDs to Mike Wallace, 10+ wins.

These are reasonable requests for a 3rd year QB if he is to make the jump to being considered a franchise quarterback.

4/1 INT rate? That isn't really reasonable. That is 40/10 in a great season, 28/7 in a lesser one.

That isn't just franchise QB that Is all time great stuff.
