http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1226278/matt-moore Are Philbin and the Dolphins serious about using Moore as a potential starter to push Tannehill to up his game???? Or.....is it a smoke screen to try to hype up Moore's value and somehow find a trade partner so as to get something for Moore instead of outright releasing him? I'm leaning toward smoke screen.
There's no way. This team will sink or swim with Tanne at QB this upcoming year. With a few fixes to his mechanics and a better offensive game plan (and o-line), Tanne will establish himself as our legit franchise QB.
I agree, it's a combination of smokescreen and a ham-handed attempt to motivate. If Philbin were to pull a healthy Tannehill in favor of Moore at any time during the season—unless the kid just totally fell apart and pulled a jMart—then that would mark the end of Philbin's career as a HC. It would be ironic, though, after everything that's happened on stone-face's watch.
As optimistic as I am about Lazor, the faster we get Philbin away from Tannehill and this franchise the better.
I think it's months before the first snap of preseason and it's safe to assume that no job in the NFL is safe. A coach speaking well of his backups is hardly a new trend, because ultimately it is a competition unless your name is Brady, Manning or Breese. Not even Luck or Wilson are 100% locks to start in February.

Not even Luck or Wilson are 100% locks to start in February. Besides, Tannehill has a number of shortcomings that keep us from scoring points...and that has to be answered for. He's not accurate with the deep ball, crossing routes and several other intermediate throws that he was making in practice as a rookie. I know a lot of you here think that Tannehill's the man, but 7 total points against two weak teams to end the season tells the entire story. He has to move the ball better and give his receivers a chance after the catch...that's just not happening.
Tannehill certainly isn't in the territory of guys like Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc. in terms of job security but I think it would take a start like 1-5 with terrible play by Tannehill to get him replaced. Moore could have won the job when Tannehill was a rookie and played that year but he didn't. He's not going to start this year unless our year is over early. And this would end with Philbin fired anyway so its not going to happen unless our season is long over.
If Tannehill can't get it done this season then you leave him in and let him and the team tank for lowest pick possible, although i don't think Tannehill would ever be that bad... a poor season from him will see maybe another 8-8 season and we are stuck in limbo where we can't draft the best QB possible. Getting stuck with an average QB who wins you 8 games is FAR worse than a QB who is terrible as you never get a definitive way out of it unless you get lucky drafting a QB in the latter part of the 1st round
Pr stunt to motivate but an odd one for sure. One would think we are considering cutting Moore for his cap number...
Its a week old story. Not surprised it didn't generate more interest even from the blood hungry media vultures out there because its a non-issue.
It won't be a non issue if they find a team desperate enough to give us a pick for him. With a 4 mil salary it isn't that likely but he does have a lot of starting experience.
It has to be a motivational thing (I still think it's stupid) or Philbin is dumber than we all give him credit for. Moore couldn't beat him out in camp as a rookie, what makes anyone think he could beat him out now? Sure, Tannehill has some stuff to work on, but honestly, if he is serious, has he shown that many short comings that it's time to give up on him? Thankfully Tannehill is smart enough to handle the situation either way. But damn the day if Philbin does benchhim and start Moore. Ross better fly down and fire him on the field. God this team refuses to get out of its own way. Total pig **** as usual.
