Via Chris Mortensen on twitter. O' Neill is the longtime head athletic trainer who was named in the Wells report.
Hopefully, Turner to follow. O'Neill went first because he was the one who refused to cooperate with Wells' investigation. I hope he's suspended for a year as well.
@AbramsonPBP 5m Wells: "O’Neill, the head trainer, not only overheard the racist insults, but also sometimes laughed along and never intervened" @AbramsonPBP 4m Wells: "...Our interview with O’Neill, which was cut short because O’Neill expressed hostility toward our investigation."
I would like to apply for the job..I promise we would have the most cutting edge principles implemented during their off-seasons, the most innovative programs for each individual, a new budget proposed to the owner, and a new strict participatory schedule that will expose the work ethic of the athlete.
Regarding Turner, I have a bit of mixed feelings about him. Yes, this started off one of the biggest sh-t bags of Olinemen, but after some guys went down and Martin out, the OL actually improved quite a bit. Sometimes it's just talent level. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s--t. I'm not absolving him of any blame, but maybe he wasn't as bad as we think. Maybe?? Just playing Devil's advocate here.
@AbramsonPBP 2m If you're wondering why Turner still has a job, I hear #Dolphins are waiting on NFL suspend Turner...
If the owner tells you to be cooperative, if you like your job you be cooperative. What he did wasn't as bad as his hostility towards the investigation.
He isn't going to the combine so that is a good sign he is probably on his way out. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...urner-wont-attend-combine-with-miami-dolphins
NFL suspends him and that's grounds to terminate his contract without pay. Purely a $$$ thing there. That's actually beneficial. Give him a trip on their dime...he can network behind the scenes for a placement once things die down.
Seriously, WTF is wrong with this team? This is common sense sh-t they're missing. You don't bring a guy with you on a business trip and fire him in a foreign city for something that happened 3 months ago.
You do know what Athletic Trainers are, right? What you just stated are not the duties of the Trainers. The trainers don't actually train the players. They are medics. They assess injuries and do their best to prevent injuries. They don't put together the offseason schedule and workouts. That is what the Strength Coaches do. The trainers sign off on whether a player is healthy enough to partake in such workouts and practices.
Maybe there should be a separate forum for "Miami Dolphins Firings". We've had more firings than wins since 2004.
Stephen Ross as owner and Joe Philbin as HC is a gift of stupid; and it's the gift that keeps on giving. How can they possibly fly O'Neill to the combine only to fire him—over the contents of a report they've had for days?
Guy's been here for 15+ years. They have him go all the way to Indy only to can him mid-meeting for reasons that've been known for days? That's an egregious lack of respect. Raise the bar.
I swear dude, its all a ploy to ruin the team in Miami, so it will be easier to move them.....Ross is actually a genius
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/19/dolphins-chose-not-to-delay-decision-to-fire-oneill/ Here is what is supposed to be the reasons for not firing him before he left to The Combine...
Moron. Utter, incompetent moron. And because he's a moron—and regardless of O'Neill deserving to be fired—he's now humiliated a man on a national stage, when it was a team matter.
What an absolute cluster**** of an organization. Top to bottom. Just Bush League really. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
We LOVE Ross. There was a time when I never thought an NFL team could jump up and down on their pud more then the Jets. Then Ross came along. He is our savior. Thank you, Mr. Ross, from the bottom of my heart.
Does anyone actually believe if the TRAINER had told Richie, Mike, and Jerry to stop that they would have? smh
They probably would have stopped in front of him and if he told the higher ups then he would still have a job.
