He said he likes writing more than being in a front office because it gives him more time and freedom to do other things and to be with his family etc. Being in a MLB front office is a 24/7 365 days a year job. It's not fun and the pay usually isn't good.

Yeah I heard the interview on the WEEI site this morning, it was a good one. I like Law's stuff a lot.

Haha, I love me Jenny Dell and sucks she won't be back with the team. Even though I didn't think it was a big deal, I could see why NESN was upset, especially that they went public with it. Rumors is she's trying to get a job with FOX Sports 1 or something like that. Either way good for Middlebrooks.

Keith Law just released his "Just Missed Prospects" aka Prospects 101 to 110 and Allen Webster was #101. He fell off the 100 prospect list because of command and his lack of a 3rd/4th pitch. But Law is still high on him because of FB velocity, sink and swing and miss change up. Law thinks he could either be a solid #3 or could be a very good RPer depends on if he ever gets that command.

Agreed. Whether you love or hate the guy on the field, real life always outweights sports.

And no, there's no word on what type he has.

Mark Sunday night February 16th at 8:00pm on your calendars and turn on ESPN as they will have a 30 for 30 doc about the failed Arod to the Red Sox deal.

    http://www.overthemonster.com/2014/2/12/5401942/alex-rodriguez-red-sox-yankees-trade

    Should be interesting for sure.

Or you can just watch it now here:

    http://m.espn.go.com/general/video?vid=10410371&src=desktop

Pretty good/interesting short doc. Nothing really groundbreaking in terms of information but liked hearing from Theo, Jed Hoyer, John Hart and Cashman about how it all went down.

Again say what you want to say about Arod but the guy was willing to give up money to come to Boston and then he was willing to move off of his main position to join the Yankees just for the chance to be on a winning team.

Ryan Dempster WILL NOT pitch this season, cited physical issues and wants to spend more time with family. Sounds kind of strange so I'm hoping both him and his family is ok.

Good thing the Sox have plenty of pitching depth. Also the Sox will save $13.5 million so they will have plenty of money to maybe re-sign Stephen Drew or another FA(s) and also take on salary via trades this year.

Can you imagine if he did this because he felt he was going to fail a drug test? Wouldnt that be funny.

Honestly with Boegarts and the prospects on the farm why would the Sox bring back Drew? Middlebrooks isnt great but he hardly is a lineup killer.

The only reason why they would sign Drew is because they don't trust Middlebrooks to improve at the plate.

Even with the prospects in the minors, they don't have a true SS or 3B that's MLB ready in case something were to happen to Bogaerts/Middlebrooks as both Cecchini and Betts are probably at least a year away.

They were talking about it on EEI, that the Sox have concern over Middlebrooks, and in some ways XB because of how will he respond at 600 ABs against major league pitching night in and out. I for one think XB will only get better and as for Middlebrooks? He is a guy with pop, the rest of that lineup can absorb his OBp shortcomings....

Honestly the Sox on offense are just fine until Papi retires.....

The Sox think Bogaerts is going to be a superstar, the only concern right now is how he adjusts to MLB pitching when they start to adjust to him. As for Middlebrooks, yeah he has tons of power but he has a poor approach at the plate aka "Jeff Franceour Syndrome" so he ends up getting himself out swinging at bad pitches aka the complete opposite of what Bogaerts did in the playoffs.

I'd still be interested in resigning Drew depending on the terms of the deal. Drew gets way too much flack based on his last name and what he did in 57 or so plate appearances in October.

If I am the Sox I am saving that money till the trade deadline, I think you can do better than Drew for a couple of years if Middlebrooks doesn't work out. Sox would have money and prospects and everyone could be in play.

I think thats the feeling amongst many teams....glad to see nobody is overpaying for him....

Seriously though Boras told him there was a 3 year deal waiting for him at arbitration time....oops....I bet he would love to accept that now...

In all seriousness I'm still on the fence with WMB. I don't think he'll ever win a BA or OBP title but the power is legit. There's no reason why he can't be a league average 3B.

The only reason to bring back Drew is because of the lack of faith in Middlebrooks...they should be targeting a 3B.

Well obviously at this point you'd have to target someone via trade. Probably not likely to happen at this point. But you could see it still.

Even at the start of the off season there wasn't a better 3B option available. The depth of quality 3B at the MLB level is pretty low right now.

Pay his *** too, seriously toss that man 18-20M for 1 yr he unequivocally deserves it.....Talk about THE Boston Red Sox, he is....all these years too I thought it was Manny...psst.....some people should get more money than they deserve....forget advanced stats for a second, think about Papi and what he has meant to this organization in terms of leadership, community, rings and memories...guy has never been in trouble, comes to the ballpark everyday and doesn't give AB's away.....plus he makes me laugh everytime he slides into 2nd or 3rd....

He and I might get slack for this, IS THE BEST HITTER IN THE AL.......there I said it....I am talking all around hitter on every facet, ability, heart, and clutch....if there is a big spot in a WS Game 7, not many others I want than him up....

With 97M coming off and it being a 1 yr deal, it would absolutely be worth it to pay him....provided it is his last year (do you think 2015 is?) but the lets see how he starts off approach is crap with him, wrong approach to take for him specifically....

Ortiz doesn't even want 18 or 20 million, just another 15 million dollar extension. Ortiz has stated he'll keep playing until he stops hitting so maybe 2015 is his last year but hopefully not.

I'd have to think both Ortiz and Lester will get an extension by the 1st month of the season.

Sox signed Chris Capuano to a 1 year deal worth $2.3 million, could earn up to 5 based on performance. I think in the wake of the Dempster news this was a pretty decent signing. Cap gets put in the pen as the swing man/emergency starter/6th starter.

Webster, Barnes and Ranuado are close, so is De La Rosa. Any of them could possibly be up by mid-season. Owens is at least a year away. Workman could be in the pen to start the year or they could have him starting in Triple A.

Again though having pitching depth is never a bad thing, especially considering Cap has MLB experience and is a LHPer. It's not like signing him is going to put a big dent in the Sox payroll. It's a depth move. Nothing to get super excited about but nothing wrong with it either.

lol what is that dip**** Lucchino trying to prove? The guy is lucky Cherington saved his *** last year. Does he not forget he orchestrated the Crawford and A-Gonzo deals, plus um Bobby V. Not to mention albeit smart signings, but they signed a lot of players (I know Cherington had more to do with that) last year that played a huge role in them winning the WS..

For him to say that the Sox somehow are doing it "completely" different is laughable, guy is a dink and will always remain one...This is the first time NY has gone on a spending spree since 2009....

For once Levine makes sense here....he acknowledges how mart Ben is and how dumb Lucchino is lol....ahh gotta love when washed people try to remain relevant.

The response by Levine was pretty damn good. I for one wish Larry would just shut up but he's like Bobby V, he can't help himself.
