Throwing some resources at the coaching side at least. Just saw Bucknell is the brother of the eagles receivers coach, wonder if he is a Lazor pick.
Turner was a dead man walking so there is no surprise that Benton has been promoted in his place. The addition of Bicknell looks to be a positive move.
The drug parties described in the texts between Cogs and Martin. These two coaches will have something to say about concentration, dedication, and not abusing the body.
Benton we already knew about. Considering how the Texans ran the ball during his tenure, his hiring should excite anyone. Getting Jack Bicknell Jr as asst OL coach is very nice addition too. His father was a high profile college coach for many years through the 80s. Strong football pedigree. If anyone wants to complain about the changes to the offensive staff they are REALLY just looking for something to complain about.
Bicknell has been a primary OL coach or just a head coach more than he has been an asst OL too. The pair of them looks to me like a serious upgrade over Turner and Mosley. Of course we know Coach Joe didn't want to replace the old OL coaches. He was forced to.
Another terrible, reactionary, too little too late move by Ross & co. They only signed Benton & Bicknell because Barnum & Bailey were unavailable.
He was released by Pittsburgh after only 1 season... The Steelers regressed statistically in Bicknell's one season as the team's offensive line coach. They finished 27th in the league in rushing and averaged 3.5 yards per carry. The Steelers also allowed 43 sacks this season Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey was injured on the first series of the opener against Tennessee and did not play again. What likely hurt Bicknell was the fact that two of the teams younger linemen did not develop under his watch. The Steelers drafted Mike Adams in the second round of the 2012 draft, and he earned the team's rookie of the year honors after starting six games at right tackle. Adams opened the season as the starter at left tackle this season, but he was benched after four games. Adams allowed four sacks and 24 quarterback hurries in his limited playing time. Right tackle Marcus Gilbert, a second-round pick in 2011, did not fare much better. He remained a starter all season, but allowed 11 of the team's 43 sacks and 30 quarterback hurries. Another factor was the failed implementation of the outside zone-blocking scheme. The Steelers worked on the new scheme throughout training camp, but they scrapped those plans after Pouncey was injured, even though Velasco was trained in an outside zone scheme in Tennessee when he played for the Titans. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...s-fired-after-one-season/stories/201401040070
He was their OL last year. Not asst OL coach. The year before he was the same in KC. He was let go because the Steelers hired Munchak.
IMO, he was let go because they had a chance to upgrade with Mike Munchak. He's like a top 5 OL coach in this league. I was hoping we'd get him, but Benton is pretty darned good too, based on his track record, just unheralded.
Bicknell was also the KC OL coach in 2012, when they finished 6th in the league in rushing with 2395 yds and 4.8 a carry.
