1 year, 12 million. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4155 NE has serious commitment issues with these one year deals. Revis is obviously an upgrade over Talib in every way (and Talib was pretty good), but it feels like a lateral move on their part. Anyone know how much cap space they currently have?
http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Patriots&Year=2014 NE will extend Wilfork to eliminate some of his cap hit.
I don't know if Revis is a great replacement for Talib based on how Talib was used. I preface this by saying I expect the Patriots to revamp the way they play there DB's now, but Talib was basically a shadow for a particular player. One week he'd blanket Jimmy Graham and the next week he's on Wes Welker. Revis probably doesn't have the size to adequately cover TE's like Graham. I fully expect Revis to play great though. I just hope our attack is varied enough to work away from Revis. If need be, running the ball is also an option.
They had around 17, and Mevis takes 12 so on or about 5M....they were saying Wilfork has to restructure or else...
If it was Revis AND Talib I'd be more worried. But one great CB doesnt make a super bowl contender. Ask the Jets.
Revis was not the only reason. Plus he was better then. My point is they essentially traded out Talib for Revis (albeit healthy, Revis is better).....its not like they doubled up. Their defense isnt that good. Wilfork is old and coming off an injury, lost Brandon Spikes....Who knows if they have Edleman back. Patriots arent a lock for anything with this addition. It helps. But I am not losing sleep.
I would argue that Talib is almost better, AT can cover TE/WR's remember that game last year when Grahman didnt have a catch.....Revis covers wideouts... And they need to stop with Revis being the best corner, he isn't....Sherman is...
With a QB named Sanchez, that is true. But NE has a much better QB. I really don't understand you guys sometimes. Every year it's, "We are closing the gap in NE." and every year you miss by a mile. NE finally loses a decent player in Talib and finds a way to replace him with Revis. They are now better, but it's brushed aside. It's not like you finished 2nd to them by a game last year.
Another year is another year older for Brady, Wilfork etc and eventually their play will slide. I didn't say we will take them over. I didnt say we will win the division running away. Fact is we split with them last season without our best slot receiver, tight end and a horrible offensive line. We upgraded, and have more cap to go and the draft, I don't think its out of the realm of possibilities to beat them, I am not guaranteeing it, but I can be optimistic, that's the beauty of it being March. Swapping Talib with Revis doesn't change that enough to make me throw down my Dolphins hat and quit on the '14 season.
If it softens the cap hit its a perfect move. If he under performs next year, he will be traded. They proved they can still win with out him. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Fair enough. NY split with them too, with Geno Smith and a cast of nobodys at WR. And a rookie CB. I guess when you look at it that way, things are looking up
I think that proves that NE is beatable even moreso. A few years ago they were sweeping without a doubt the lowly fins and jets.
I think there is always the chance of an upset in division games. Since 2008, the Jets are 5-8 against NE, including a road playoff victory. Buffalo beat you guys 3 out of 4 the last two years. Do you think they are catching up to you? I don't. As long as NE has Brady, they will be the team to beat in the AFC East. Can't wait for the **** to hang 'em up.
As well the contract has language that the Pats cant franchise him.....damn in reality Revis kinda played the Pats....
He is one of the most selfish players ever to play the game. Why do you think Woody Johnson told Idzik to trade him no matter what? He and his team are a royal pain in the ***. Thank God the Bucs were stupid enough to give us a #1 and a #4. There wasn't a chance in hell he was going to continue playing for the Jets. And as long as Woody Johnson owns the team, Revis will never be a Jet again. Bank that.

Here is a good read about Jets management/ownership not wanting Revis even though Revis (reportedly) had NY as #1 on his list. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...return-jets-rex-wanted-back-article-1.1720586
I'd be more worried about Belicheat than Brady if i were you. Brady had a very average season last year...QBR in the mid to high 80's I believe...and yet the Pats still won the division. If not for a fluke season when Brady went down the Pats would have made it into the playoffs that year too.
Fluke season? If anything was fluke it was Cassell that year....Listen when Brady was in his prime and could carry the offense by himself the Pats had no defense...now that they have some semblance of a defense, Brady cant carry the offense by himself anymore because he is regressing. So I hope they load up on defense and neglect like they have the past few years to get him weapons...because end game will be like last year where they meet a real defense put up under 20 points for the game yet again...
When did Brady ever carry this team to a Championship? Matt Cassell came in after not starting a game since high school and put up Brady-like numbers. The Pats, like most Super Bowl winning teams, won Championships because of their defense.
