Moore going to see Dr. James Andrews, TB saying the injury isn't as good as they thought last night. Doesn't sound good but who knows.

Reports starting to come out that Moore has UCL damage, which means TJ surgery is a real possiblity here. Huge blow to TB if that happens. Geez the AL East is just getting hammered with injuries so far already this year yet Grady Sizemore is still standing tall (for now).

Gomes is a platoon player and the Sox only RHHing OFer besides Victorino. While this report is premature because a lot can happen between now and when Victorino comes back I'd say it is worse news for Nava and definitely Carp than Gomes.

Also SSS alert but good to see JBJ rise from the ashes of being a fallen failed prospect for now anyway. And this is yet another reminder as to why ST stats are meaningless.

He's 23 with ~100 MLB PA's under his belt. Who was calling him a failed prospect? Those people are idiots

Nava and Gomes were the perfect platoon team last year because Nava can hit RHPers but not LHPers and Gomes can hit LHPers but not RHPers. Nava is better defensively but Gomes is the better base runner.

Carp was a very useful and helpful players last year for the Sox off the bench that could play LF and 1B, he has value.

Nobody was calling him a bust.....all that was said was you cant ever tell with prospects. And that is true...

I mean ya sure he is doing well now, and he could get even better or get worse....I always look at Nova as a guy who the whole "never can tell" comes in...That guy was an emergency starter one year and turned into a pretty ok major league pitcher last night not withstanding

You are correct, no one was saying "he is a bust" however you and Nappy were both pretty down on him as a player based off of 107 plate appearances last year and 61 plate appearances in ST.

He looked lost at the plate this spring. I simply said he has had a fall from grace where the Red Sox were depending on him and he failed them. Doesn't mean that I thought he was a bust. Just thought he was a bust for this year. Mechanically his swing is pretty good, and it flabbergasted me that I could like his swing so much and him look so awful at the plate.

I was/am actually very high on him because he was insanely good in AAA....even when like last year when he got sent down again and did well....it was weird how it wasn't translating in the MLB.....I mean sure you need a few AB's to adjust but IMO 100 plus AB's is a few and he should have at that point showed something and he really just struggled and looked somewhat lost as well.....he latest hitting tirade that pumped is numbers up did well to make me think he A Ok...

Again though we're talking about 61 ST plate appearances. Not sure it was fair to write him off for the year because of it. He proved last year that ST at bats didn't matter and so far this year he's proving it again.

100 ABs isn't enough especially since they were spread out throughout the 2013 season and never had consistent playing time after the first week of the season. Combine them it's basically a little less than a month of at bats so it's approximately 1/5 of a season.

61 ABs or 600 ABs. You absolutely can take something from them if your not just simply looking at batting average. I watched a fair share of his ABs this spring and he looked over matched much of the time. If he looks over matched against Clayton Kerhsaw in a couple ABs that's one thing.

60 ABs isn't enough to write someone off, especially in the spring. But you can definitely take something away from him when he was looking completely overmatched.

    You can't draw conclusions from 100 AB's.

This. One could argue that because it was ST his timing could have been off or he might have been trying something new in the batter's box. Or it simply could have been a bad few weeks. Either way I think it's obvious once again not to put too much stock in ST whether the guy does well or poorly.

Apparently there is conversation on whether Moore will pitch through the injury. So we will see what happens from here. At least it was the death sentence news...

Matt Harvey tried that as well, at this point though he would probably do more damage...he should just get the surgery...

Yeah he has a torn UCL, might as well get it taken care of now instead of delaying it so he could pitch at least half of the 2015 season, instead of possibly missing the whole '15 season and most of this season too.

I agree with both of you. He shouldn't mess around with it. Get the surgery now. I'm not sure why the team and Moore is questioning the surgery.

Denial..... it must suck as a pitcher to hear on April 10th or so "you need surgery and it will be 12-15 months until you get back to normal"...especially so young....

Gordon Edes just tweeted a picture of Pineda with what looks like pine tar on his hand. This is why the Buchholz bullfrog sun screen thing was silly last year as pitchers use these things all the time to get a better grip.

Edit: NESN just showed the picture. Yawn....

He totally had something on his hands. Got to admit I got a kick out of Remy talking about it, like dude do you forget about Buchholz and Lester?

I was was there last night and man every time I go to the new Stadium the more I hate it. It honestly ****ing sucks. There is no juice in that place. It is totally dead. They priced out the real baseball fans. ****ing sellouts.

Yeah it was pretty funny. I wonder if it was mentioned on the Yankee broadcast at all. I do find it interesting that after the 5th inning Pineda's hand was completely clean. I wonder if an ump told him to take care of it or if someone from the Yankees told him it was obvious and to get rid of it. Either way I think the "debate" is silly and glad the Sox all came out and said who cares. It seems like really the only ones that do are media members or crazy fans who don't think their own players do that stuff.

I agree about the new Yankee Stadium, it's just.... different. It feels like you're in a casino/hotel in Vegas than a baseball game because of the size of everything there. And it looks depressing as hell on TV with all of those empty seats. It looks more like a random Marlins or Rays game sometimes. This is the Yankees, the place should be sold out every game with fans making tons of noise like in the old days of the late 90s/early to mid 2000s. Instead again there's no noise or juice there. The old stadium definitely needed upgrading but they took all the charm out when they built the new place.

They talked about it on the Yankee broadcast. Cone said this is a non story, its cold, and its not uncommon for pitchers to use something to get a grip. Basically the same that every player and manager asked about the situation has said. He also noted that Bucholtz had a substance on his left forearm. Said most teams won't say anything just to protect their own guys.

I personally don't care, I wouldn't want a 96 mph fastball coming at my head, so whatever a pitcher can do to get a better grip, please, do it. Also, catchers scuff balls with their gear, I've seen 2nd baseman with tiny patches of sandpaper on their mitts....if you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

That's good to know, thanks. I figured if Cone or Leiter were in the booth they would call it a non story. The only reason why it's a story is because of the media anyway. Although I do find it kind of funny when Buchholz was doing it last year vs. the Blue Jays, Jack Morris and Hayhurst (two former MLB pitchers) were going nuts and yelling how it was cheating. I doubt they would have the same reaction if it was Dickey or Morrow doing it.

Agreed -- But now Shane Victorino interjected himself from rehab -- I really dislike that guy - loudmouth on the phillies - even less tolerable when you're not even playing.

It's funny when i worked in minor league ball, I saw all kinds of things. From using spit after chewing gum (the sugar makes it sticky) to pouring gatorade on one's pitching hand right before going to the mound than grabbing the rosin bag (nice sticky powder and colorful too). Pinetar sometimes gets on the ball from being fouled off, if it had any effect on the ball whatsoever, i think MLB would change the ball for every batter.

I think the point is the players were mad PED users were allowed to play in the playoffs and wanted harsher penalties if they got caught, which ended up happening.

Pine tar very rarely would get in the ball from a foul ball. Would have to foul it off the handle and probably break the bat.

Yup. I was semi-joking a few days ago that the AL East would be determined by team's Double A teams and with the way things are going I might end up being right. Crazy year with all of these injuries so far. And to think Grady Sizemore is STILL standing tall (for now). Surprised an AL East team doesn't sign Mark Prior, with the way things are going this year he might be able to make 20 plus starts.
