I like the players..... but goddam... stop reaching for everything. Hickey is proving to be the exact opposite of the BPA guy he said he is.

After Ireland, I don't even care if he gets poor value, only that he gets good players that contribute.

So far IMO, he's gotten two good starters for that O-line.

meanwhile the Niners are being patient and gobbling up talent equal to or better than their draft slots and doing so while filling needs.
    57. Carlos Hyde
    70. Marcus Martin
    77. Chris Borland

Hickey would've passed on Hyde at 57 to desperately take Martin to fill the need at center.... and then he would've desperately taken Borland at 70. So rather than getting Hyde as the third player, he'd have been left with whomever is there at 77 with twenty fewer names on the board.

LSU fan here....While I'm sure y'all could have drafted something of more need or whatever, what's done is done. I won't say this was the best pick for y'all, but I will say that you will end up loving this pick. This guy is a true football player. He has that "thing" you cannot measure and you cannot teach. May fall on deaf ears now, but bookmark this thread and come back after next season is over and tell me I'm wrong. Spoiler -- -- I'm not wrong.

Bingo! IMVHO Hickey is solid so far, OL fixed & reliable pair of hands for 1st downs, TD's & potential leadership ability to help light a fire under Mike Wallace. Ryan Tannehill is sipping some fine champagne about now.

How can anyone *not* like the Landry pick? We dropped several spots, picked up a 4th and a 5th and then landed a kid who catches EVERYTHING. But, more than that, he's athletic and tough. Mayock said Landry is the "toughest WR in this draft." I agree. But, he can also run better than people think. Ran a 4.51 his pro day.

Here's NuGap's metrics break down involving Landry:

    http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46136/349/out-of-the-box

Crazy that he has such great hands. But, he runs good routes.

I actually think he's going to be very competitive for the #3 slot WR position.

I don't think Landry was a reach. The two OLs were probably that but they were probably pretty good picks.

I like the Turner pick a lot, but I don't get why you'd take Landry over Bruce Ellington, but I guess we'll see.

Catching machine, gives us competition and protection against injuries to Gibson/Hartline not progressing well. Maybe also a nice red zone target. I like the picks today much more the bumbling from yesterday. Shame we didn't have more ammo to work with.

Not sure I approve of missing out on the TE grouping though.

so what if he ran a bunch of routes from the perimeter in college. He's still a slot receiver and prides himself on being so. If he was drafted to replace Hartline then I'd criticize it even harder since he doesn't project as well on the perimeter in the NFL.

Then your disagreement is a poor one WADR. Arizona had much bigger needs than RT, especially a reach for a RT. They're content with Bobbie Massie or else they would've re-signed Winston who is on speed dial if they need the position filled without having to use a valuable #20 pick to do so. Why would Carolina trade up and reach for a RT when their greater needs are LT and WR?

Yeah, so instead of an impact TE [Niklas] to fill a need, we use a 2nd rounder on a third slot receiver who isn't drastically better than the two we have; meanwhile our depth at perimeter WR is still weak.

Would like to see us maybe take Seastrunk. Not sold on Miller, and think Seastrunk could be an interesting pickup to challenge/replace him.

When we have Gibson & Matthews who are more than serviceable from the slot, IMO it's a reach to take Landry in the 2nd when his skill set is similar to theirs. If he were like a Beckham or Cooks and offered the type of big play ability from anywhere on the field that Matthews & Gibson don't, then that would've been a different story.

In a vacuum I like Landry if we have a need at slot receiver and have enough speed around him to not need another burner. But now, outside of Wallace, we've got receivers 2 through 6 who run 4.5 or slower in an offense that is supposed to be more vertically efficient with Lazor. It's Lazor's offense that's being given Dan Henning personnel.

Jarvis Landry was my favorite player in the draft. If you don't love him, its just cuz you haven't watched him enough. He has the best hands in the draft, runs great routes and is a good blocker.

So basically, Gadsen's hands (not size, but catching ability) with Hines Ward mentality.

He's like Stedman bailey. So, I'm happy.

Preston Brown gone, damn...to Buffalo at that, they are having a great draft. we should have taken Turner at 63 then traded up in the 3rd for Brown so he can play inside and we could then move ellerbe outside and move wheeler to the sideline.

FWIW, Ive seen him play a lot and thought he was more difficult to defend than Beckham during the games I watched of him. My only fear is that his skillset wont translate well to the pros. Im concerned about his 28' vertical and 9'1" broad jump. I know it doesnt show on tape as he seems to frequently catch the ball at its highest point, but I do question if hes athletic enough to be a 1000 yard, move the chains receiver in the pros.

Anyway, good player. I just wouldve liked to see someone bigger with springs and explosion given that that seems to be the prototype these days.

2:11 is pretty sick. That defender had him all kinda interfered with, and he still sucked that pass in. THAT'S the kinda stuff Mike Wallace should be able to do with his price tag.
