I expect that at least one of those three will bite; most likely Gasol. But Deng was reported to be hot on the Heat early on as well, and the fact that he hasn't signed bodes well for us.

gotcha. I took your "short term pain" quote a few weeks ago to mean melo was gone....

I guess if they get Pau they will be doing that as a recruiting tool for Marc.

The fact that Deng took a meeting with Riley and reportedly likes the Heat is a good thing. Will it be enough? We'll see. I'd agree Pau would be the most likely of the 3, and I'd be Ariza is the least likely, which is fine with me.

Plus, it's the biggest net gain for Deng to come to Miami for the minimum and win a ring; if he takes any more money from another team, it just gets deducted from the $ he'd already be getting this season.

The minimum? No way in hell he's taking the minimum.

You don't think the second part of the post is true? Why would he want to negotiate more money from another team just to lessen the Cavs' burden?

No, he's already making $16.8M for sitting home this season if he wants; if he plays, he's looking for a ring. The question is: does he believe Miami is where he can get it, or is he somehow deluded that the Clippers or Lakers are gonna take one?

Because the reality is that I doubt he wants to play for a one year deal. He will likely want something longer term that may make him less this season but more long term.

Of course. Who wouldn't? But I'm certain that can all be worked out, either in a longer deal that starts at the minimum with an opt-out clause, or a single with a promise of a longer deal next year.

Two things everyone knows are true: Pat Riley's word, and Pat Riley's loyalty.

Are you sure that's the case? I thought he was a straight out free agent. Why would he be saying he won't take a discount anywhere if he'll be making essentially the same amount of money regardless?

@EthanJSkolnick 3h Napier looks today like Ennis looked in first game last year. Don't read much into it. Carter-Williams was erratic in '13 summer league

@EthanJSkolnick 2h The one thing that nobody's paying attention to: the league thinks Bosh is a max player. So maybe Heat fans should value him more.

    @EthanJSkolnick
46s Standing behind what I've reported on Bosh: wants to b in MIA, ideally for 5 yrs, & while he was aiming for near 90, he wants 2 help team.

Even though it's only one game, Noel looked pretty good in the summer league game today. It'll be nice to see him on the court once the season starts.

For his first real live game in over a year, he looked very good. Ended up with 19 points, 4 steals, and a few blocks. This year won't have many wins, and I'm fine with that, but it will be fun to watch Carter-Williams and Noel play together throughout the season. Some of their 2nd rounders could be useful this season as well like McDaniels and Grant. I was bummed seeing Jackson rupture his achilles in the game.

Also, I was watching some the Heat's summer league game, and I can see why you guys like Ennis. He looks like someone who can play a meaningful role for them this season.

Part of that, though, was Spo's blind spot where Michael Beasley is concerned. Even the best coaches have their blind spots, and this seems to be Spo's.

Beasley did everything right and zero wrong with the Heat, but the way he was limited led to his pressing too hard when he ever did get on the court. With some confidence-instilling minutes, Beas could play looser and be himself, and benefit the team.

I wonder if Ennis will get that chance this season?

Bill Simmons and Ramona now saying that Kobe and L.A. Made a HUGE impression on Carmelo and are legit contenders to land him.

IF that were to happen, I imagine that Pau will re-sign in a heartbeat. If not, then he is gone.

I'm seeing reports Melo has agreed to 5/129 with the Knicks.

You may be right. I just saw Simmons' tweet and Ramona "confirming" it. It would be hilarious if that was right before a deal was announced. Lol

Edit: a cursory glance of the internet and Twitter shows no reports of Melo agreeing to anything, yet.

The Steve Bartman Story is on ESPN Classics. That poor bastard....

And now realGM sources are saying that this is leverage from Melo to force a S&T with Chicago. Is Melo that smart? I mean...he went to Syracuse so I doubt it.

I did a quick tour of a bunch of sites to see if the 'Melo signs with NYK blurb Alex had mentioned was popping up anywhere. No biggie.

Although according to this site, no site/reporter/insider is to be believed anywhere at anytime...unless they speak well of The Heat.

Bill Simmons is a blithering idiot. Dont pay attention to anything he says. Ive seen that report too.
Thats not true from what Ive seen. Ive read reports ranging from he will sign it to he will take the max next year and take the 7.5% decrease in year 2 that the cba allows to have more cap space to hes going to LAL.
Boozer can only sign for the minimum after he clears waivers. From my understanding of the CBA is that when a player gets amnestied each team places a bid on said player. Highest bid wins and in the event of a tie it goes in order of record (i.e. tie goes to the bigger loser team). So if say the Heat bid 3M for Boozer and the Knicks bid 3M for Boozer hes the Knicks. I believe the only caveat is you have to be under the cap to use more then a minimum or MLE bid.

FWIW, the Knicks regard the Bulls as the biggest threat which is a good thing because the most the Bulls can offer right now is 4/71.9 because they still dont have the necessary cap. At this point imo its knicks lakers or rockets with the knicks being frontrunners to keep him.
