Hes better than what we have so its not a bad signing but damn can we ever get the Oline straight? I mean this is starting to get ridiculous. We could see another year go down the tubes on offense because of a bad oline.

I gotta say, Hickey's looking pretty decent right now. Some rooks starting, some close and will see the field/contribute, others flashing, besides Moreno, and maybe Smith, everybody's showing out.

I expect James, Landry, Tripp, Feedme, maybe even Turner make a statement this year.

Candygram for Longo... Candygram for Longo...

Longo like candy, but not pink slip...

Blocking for Trent Richardson tends to lower ones PFF ranking. Solid move by Hickey. He's not like the man that shall not be named. He actually brings veterans in, at positions of need, DURING training camp/preseason.

Don't forget Satele spent his first 3 years in college as a LG. Maybe he's already our best guard :D

He was not the worst, though pretty near the bottom. In pass blocking though, he was middle of the pack among centers.

During his career, Satele has play nearly 6200 snaps. He should be savvy enough to make good line calls and be the most likely to make clean snaps to the QB.

I remember in 2008, he played the entire season, while having injuries to both shoulders for at least part of it. Always admired him for gutting it out that year, when some guys would have thrown in the towel.

About time... a not so good center, is better than no center at all. At least he can snap the damn ball.

If I'm worrying about guys who could line up at 0 or 1-techniques in this division, Wilfork isn't top of the list and hasn't been for a while.

Except his first 2 years here and his last year when he got injured for a couple games he actually had a positive run blocking grade.

He'll do as a holdover until Pouncey is back.

Don't mean to steal Clean's thunder, but as he previously posted:

"Satele played in 4 games for Miami vs the Pats on his first stint with the Dolphins. The Dolphins rushing totals were:
30 attempts, 179 yds, 6.0 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.
22 attempts, 108 yds, 4.9 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.
36 attempts, 216 yds, 6.0 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.
18 attempts, 66 yds, 3.7 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.

But, let's not let facts get in the way of a good story."

Yeah, I posted that on finheaven in response to that nitwit who calls himself DefensiveEnd76. He is a bigger negative Nelly than even LBsFinest. Good to post it here too. Of course Satele is older and more battle worn than he was back then. But so is Wilfork, and he is coming off an Achilles, which would seem to me to be about the worst injury for a fat lineman to recover from.

Hasn't Indy run a man scheme since Pagano took over? That could be a reason why he's been so poor the last couple of years after doing well in Oakland.

Sad thing is our best offensive line the past decade was Parcells first year, man that group were killers.. Smiley, Grove, Jake.. they just mauled everyone..

You mean his 2nd year...Long, Smiley, Grove, Donald Thomas, Carey....paved the way for a top 5 rushing attack and they proceed to replace the whole interior of the line the following offseason. As expected, the OL went back to sucking the following year.

Why do you suppose they replaced Smiley and Grove? Couldn't have had anything to do with them falling apart physically could it? They just replaced them for the hell of it I guess? Thomas didn't play for anyone in 2010, so he wasn't physically able either.

Which I'm betting is next season.

    - The injury is serious and recovery is difficult
    - Why put out bad tape (if he's still injured by healthy enough to play) on the last year of his contract when his previous year was a pro bowl season?
    - His brothers comments about his unhappiness in Miami

I remember it differently. I remember the line struggling to conventionally run block resulting into the wildcat gimmick.

I actually liked him based on the college games I saw him in. Heck, he'll probably go on to become a 10 yr solid starter for someone, knowing our luck. :)

My guess is he'd have a lot more "fun" if we were a playoff team. If not, and he just wants to play with his brother, ain't much the team can do, short of maybe a Super Bowl win, to keep him around. Scoop up a good, just-finished-rookie-contract FA this off-season and trade his ***!

He's good on the field...s*** everywhere else.

Edit: I think he's one public disaster away from missing serious time/being gone anyway...and we all KNOW there's gonna be something else.

wondering if there's a chance that Garner actually starts the season at center and Satele plays backup C/G - given Garner's injury history

Model citizen he is not but the Pouncey attacks are overblown IMO. He's not Von Miller, Aldon Smith, Josh Gordon etc. He's much closer to a Gronkowski type, a bit of a headache but well worth it as long as he continues to play at a high level.

He's a legitimate threat to be suspended for drugs, behavioral issues, and was subpoenaed in the Aaron Hernandez trial. Rob Gronkowski is a dumb goofball, Mike Pouncey is a scumbag.

In other news, satele by reports struggled today...gotta be a lot of rust in that dude...maybe garner getting dinged had something to do with his lining up with the first team, idk.

Hard to tell if signing Samson Satele was a capitulation move like with Daryn Colledge, or if he's just here to compete.

They brought Daryn Colledge on after they saw Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner struggle at left guard, and they made Colledge pretty much one of the locked-in starters of the offensive line. So that's what I mean by a capitulation move rather than bringing a guy on to compete.

I suppose the quality of Satele's own practices could determine how locked-in he is as a starter.

On the one hand I think Satele's presence stabilizes the line in that it gives you known quantities on the interior between Daryn Colledge, Samson Satele and Shelley Smith. There's no shortage of pro snap experience between those three, and you add Branden Albert to the left side and you should know what you have in that offensive line even if you do have a rookie on the right wing.

On the other hand that would be a weak overall line, and that's a concern just because the two division opponents that we MUST beat consistently if we hope to put together a playoff run...are very DL-heavy. I'm speaking about the Jets defensive front with Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Damon Harrison, Kenrick Ellis and Quinton Coples...as well as the Bills defensive front with Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams, Alan Branch, Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes. The defensive front on both teams is genuinely GOOD, it's a position of strength for both teams. We MUST finish ahead of these teams if we want to get into the playoffs, yet they both have a pretty big strength-on-weakness matchup in their favor which must be overcome.

I think they never really wanted Smith at C anyway. I think they want a starting 4 (minus Pouncey's inevitable spot) and want to plug someone in there that can, like LB said...'hold the fort down'. I'm sure they don't see Satele as a long term prospect, but he is, for all his faults, an experienced OL at that position. This way, there is only one 'move' to be made to replace Pouncey's spot until he can function again and you don't disrupt the rest of the starters along the OL...

This at least will allow for some sort of consistency along the OL...

That said, I was never a fan of Satele's. His buildup with fans here was that 'at that time' he may have been our best OL, that doesn't mean he was very good, just that he was better than most of what we had at that time...
