If this game is an example I think we are going to see a lot of scoring in the NFL this year.

On the down side the penalties are disturbing and take away from the game IMO.

And the Seahawk just gets away with a BLATANT hold on the receiver as the ball's coming in...no flag. No ticky-tack hold there...full grab.

Good ole NFL refs...call the minor touch stuff, let the mugging go.

Ya if this continues, as many have said, it'll be damn near unwatchable.

I don't see how Denver doesn't score 40+ every game with this going on.

Why did the Pats also have workouts with the Washington football club not long ago?

Having workouts with other clubs is a good idea in general. You don't need to have an additional or ulterior motive. I just believe that it's likely that BB did have an additional or ulterior motive with regard to the Philly workouts.

Ya, but I'm not sure I saw the Eagles show any of their really confusing stuff (stacking Ts, etc). While they may have game-planned for the Cheaters, they still kept it simple.

I actually don't think much of what Philly does is complex. Those off-balanced lines have been around forever. You may recall that Miami used it in their wildcat package. The genius in Kelly's system is in the multiple options built into each play. Much like the wildcat did, your offense can often decide after the D commits. If your QB makes the right choice quickly enough then in theory the D is always wrong. Unlike the wildcat, the options are diverse enough that you can't just beat it by crowding the line.

Defensive contact rule has just about ruined the game for me.

Same here, these games are hard to watch. At least it will lighten up (hopefully) once the regular season starts and with some of the guys we have like Grimes.. they don't press much or put their hands on the receivers every down to win.

That illegal contact might be the worst. Have they finally gone and ruined the NFL?

The new contract rules are trash.

The NFL isn't going to be satisfied until every defense plays like the Dallas Cowboys... We're reaching the point where investing money into defensive players is becoming counter productive. At least as far as secondaries are concerned. Kind of like how running backs have become devalued in the passing era.

It's a shame too, I love great defensive battles. Those Seahawk v. 49ers games are (were?) fun to watch. And watching a team like New England run the score up on everyone in 2007, only to see them struggle against a strong defense (NYG, Ravens, etc...) is compelling. Not just because I hate the pats (I'm just using them as an example) but because it's meaningful that teams can be built differently and still be successful and compete with each other. The old, immovable force vs. unstoppable object conundrum. Now, every looks the same... Shotgun 70% of the time and pass, pass, pass and laundry on the field every play.

Grimes will be good if he stays healthy. Im worried about Finnegan on the other side. He's more aggressive with his assignments.

My thoughts exactly. I'm a defense guy and defensive battles are always more interesting and exciting to me.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd rather pitch a shutout than score 40 points.

Wait, 37 illegal contact flags in 256 games seems awfully low. That would mean there was only one flag every seven games. That has to be a mistake.

I like a little variety. I'll take both, alternating every week :shifty:

Seriously though, Florida Vs. The U was probably my favorite game all season... Non stop tension throughout. I love watching defenses that creates turnovers. It's like watching a horror movie and getting spooked out of no where. Turnovers create that sudden explosion of endorphin's and adrenalin because you don't expect it and you're happy as ****!

Every team loses guys they'd want to have every season. I'd take our top 5 guys right now over him anyways, and he also was hit like Jordan/Jones with a suspension.

Miami did sign him to their practice squad. It is not like they got rid of him.

I would be more ashamed if I were the Browns. The team that poached him off of the practice squad.

It looks to me like he did it more or less because they were playing a game the same week. Both teams he did the joint workouts with were teams on their preseason schedule.

Watching the Lions miss an extra point attempt from 33 yards was really a cool feeling.

Its exciting making a team actually earn the extra point; I'd consider moving it back even more.

jeez, WR is the least of our problems the guy that is suspended for the 1st 4 games you mean ? and he would be better than Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry or Matthews ?

he is not better than any of those 5

Were they the first to miss? I haven't been paying attention to that. The extra point is boring. I wish they would get rid of it and make teams go for 2. I'm hoping some coach goes balls to the wall and goes for 2 every time for an entire game just to try it out. I'm thinking either Belichick or Kelly. Belichick doesn't GAF and Kelly is madden gamer at heart.

If they eliminate the XP in the future...I'd like to see it to where you get a play from the two yard line for one point or one play from the 5 or 7 yard line for two.

I'm watching the SEA vs SD replay on NFL Network right now. I see Brandon Flowers with excellent coverage on Doug Baldwin. Has inside position, is in the reciever's hip, head turned around playing the ball. Hands tussle, incompete pass. Flag for pass interference. Ball spotted on 1 yard line, RB scores the touchdown.

I don't understand why they are calling every bit of contact in preseason if they aren't going to call it that way once the games start to count. Surely officiating games in a consistent manner all throughout the preseason and into the regular season would teach defenders the new "points of emphasis" better than this.

You'll see another play in that game where the Sea defender is mugging the receiver the ball is thrown TO...no call.

Love to have him, but that was arrogant to get flagged twice in the same game for dunking on the goalposts. You know it's a rule, so your just basically saying your bigger than the team.

Pick up touch football league rules. I like it!!

Russell Wilson is a great Qb..

Hes a good enough passer and when it's not there his playmaking ability is special, they do such a great job taking advantage of his scrambling ability, their not scared of it because he has such an ability to sense where pressure is coming from and when enough is enough, he's one step ahead of everyone else, basically he never gets hit because he's so good..

There was this play where he dropped back in the pocket, saw the blitzer come get a free pass toward him, explosively moved his body five yards to the right and hit his primary receiver coming across the middle of the field..it was so nice.

That's about two per weekend and I think it's actually about right. Remember, most calls are defensive holding or PI.
