Dolphins pick up Bruce Gaston by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com The Dolphins have claimed defensive tackle Bruce Gaston from the Patriots, according to the Boston Herald. New England parted ways with Gaston Wednesday. Miami waived safety Brandian Ross in order to make room for the move.
At this point the game plan had already been installed. Hoping we'll be able to get some decent info!
Guys, if I am correct, he was on the Pats for 48 hrs! Unless we are asking him for info on what they serve for lunch...pretty useless. I think this stuff is very overblown
Tidbits from a synopsis of Gaston - versatility to play different techniques, head up against the tackles to anywhere on the inside more of a two-down run-stuffing type, more likely to win with a bull-rush, not a dynamic rusher 6-foot-2 and 308 pounds playing strength coupled with a bit of nastiness struggled to maintain his balance at times when playing head up on the center nice explosion, ability to shed, locate the ball-carrier and make the tackle physical presence at the line of scrimmage who benched 34 times at his pro day
At Purdue his jersey actually read "BJ Gaston", I almost forgot his first name was Bruce because we just called him....something else
The bigger question(s) are is Pouncey gonna play and whether or not we can make some plays in the secondary early. The defense has to hold the Patriots to at least 2 short drives. If they do not and are on the field too much they will be worn down this early in the season. They will still need a game or two to get truly in 'game' shape. The offense must sustain drives, which it should do based on how we have played during the preseason. If the offense comes to play this game is going to be closer than people think.
I wish one of these days we could get an inspired theft like the one of Danny Woodhead. That worked out pretty well.
did anything happen to pouncey in the last few days that i have missed, you realize he avoided the PUP list and is scheduled to play week 4 or after the bye ?
Yup, but he's said for months that he'd be ready for the season opener. Since then, nobody has really said either way whether that was optimism or actual progress.
Most players talk as if they are coming back sooner th expected. Part of who they are as athletes and injury can be a death knell to a player. I trust the medical field over the player - in spite of exceptions. I suspect Pouncey will be back around week 3-4.
I rather becareful with Pouncey and wait till our third game to play him.. hip surgery is pretty big, especially for a guy his size having to go up against very strong nose tackles.. he's looked good in shorts but he hasn't done game style contact drills.
