If anyone wants to play in a league where you pick defenders: http://fantasy.nfl.com/league/2632349 Its an "AFC League" where you name it after an AFC team. Dolphins & Patriots are only taken. Draft Sept 1 I think.
So my Big money league draft is coming up in a few days and i'm really stuck on some early round choices. There's really not too many players I like with my 31st and 42nd overall picks. its a 12 team PPR league (ESPN Rankings) and i'm 7th overall. So for my strategy is something like this: 7: Eddie Lacy, Calvin Johnson, Matt Forte (or any top 5 RB if they fall to me) 18: Dez, Marshall, Nelson, Green or Montee Ball Then I get to pick 31 and really the players I would be interested are quite a few picks ahead of me in their ADP such as Gio Benard, Antonio Brown, and maybe Randall Cobb. This pick I could go with Stafford but im usually against drafting a QB before rounds 7-8 I just dont see the value. The other option i've been thinking about is reaching for Ellington with this pick (Currently 47 ADP) For pick 42 the only player I like in that area is Victor Cruz (currently 45 ADP) or Reaching for Michael Crabtree (50) What are your opinions on this? or who else would you consider in these picks
Currently in a dilemma for Weds on Weds for the same thing. Part of it is knowing who youre drafting with. I know I have pick 5 in my draft so right around where you are. Mocking it out with different scenarios using a rankings sheet helps. At 5 Im pretty sure Ill end up looking at the same 3 you are. At 20 Im hoping ill have a choice of Martin/Foster/Marshall/Nelson (at least 1) At 29 I could have one of those left but more likely Im looking at Ellington/Stacy/Jeffery/Cobb (I love Ellington a lot in full point PPR right now...durability is a question but damn he could be a ppr beast). Rd 4 and 5 I face the same thing....Id really want Cruz to fall there or someone like a Rashad Jennings, (who is a sneaky good pick imo...last half of the year he finished 5th in ppr formats over final 8 weeks), Toby Gerhart (Ugly OL situation but a true 3 down back and can catch), Shane Vereen, etc. Gronk or Julius Thomas is a guy who could throw a wrinkle in there. Mock out a few scenarios and follow the one you like best.
This might help if you don't already use it. http://draftwizard.fantasypros.com/simulator/start.jsp?sport=nfl I ran a ton of these mocks to get a strong feel for recent ADP, who I can get where, and used that to construct my draft philosophy. I ended up going WR-heavy early this year because I was confident I could get some running backs late that I liked. For the first 12 rounds of our ThePhins league I think it all played out how I drew it up except for not getting Nick Foles in round 7 who went the pick before mine. I settled for Matt Ryan instead. Side note: I also like to pay attention to my site's draft rankings when figuring out my draft philosophy because, come draft day, those rankings will inevitably influence some GMs regardless of ADP b/c they'll see the draft board with the top remaining players and feel a bit of pressure to draft from that list. There were a handful of players I liked that I thought NFL.com had severely underrated on its draft board, so I knew on draft day I could likely count on penciling in a few of them, which allowed me to draft more for points value early on.
I'd go Forte in a PPR. Calvin is a safe bet for 1400 yards and good health, he's your safe pick and it depends what you think of the second round RBs. I think Lacy has MVP written all over him, I took him a 4 in a standard scoring league, but I realize he's not much of a pass catcher. Those receivers are all good, I shy away from Ball. Just no idea how things will shake out in Denver and the preseason did nothing to resolve that. I like backs like Foster and Morris there as well. I want nothing to do with Ellington (won't hold up), Gio (timeshare) and Cruz (Manning looks horrible so far). Crabtree is being overdrafted, not sure why. San Fran is still a ball control team.
So, I'm in Round 4 of my keeper draft and so far my WRs are; Cobb, Roddy White, and Kendall Wright. ALL WEEK 9 BYES!! Overlooked that one.... Then I have LeSean McCoy and Doung Martin...both WEEK 7 BYES. Bishop Sankey....WEEK 9 BYE.... Damn I got work to do.
Ive never understood why people get hung up on bye weeks. I'd rather go 14-1 and make the playoffs with a stronger team than I might have with a 15-0 team because I settled.
Both against good offenses, but I'd roll with the SEA-fense for 15 of 16 weeks, sitting them down only against DEN.
Thats the thing, to not play Seattle and at home to boot is a shame.....but I really think Miami can give Brady a go this week... Thanks for your input bro...
If anyone in a league drops Welker and you have bench space he might be smart to stash until after week four. I accidently drafted him in a league and I'm holding onto him but Ive seen/heard of some people overreacting to his suspension and dropping him.
I pulled Garcon last minute to start Harvin in one of my leagues. Looking like it may have been smart. We will see.
Neither. Find a different one. Philly (vs Jax), the Jets (I know I know but theyre playing Oakland and a rookie qb) or Pitt (vs Cleve)
I drafted Seattle in my other league with the intentions of starting them every week regardless of opponent. Did no one watch the SB last year? Plus they offer an X factor bonus in the return game. I had no qualms starting them tonight and would have done so instead of Miami.
I don't like drafting defenses early. I think you can find a defense comparable towards the end of the draft and in FA.
Jordy Nelson hurt me by not having a big game for me in one league abd helped by not having one against me in another. A Harvin TD would have been nice and capped off his night.
All taken, I am in a 14 team league and had the 14th pick.....defenses score point in my league thats why I picked them early, played them last night.....I win...
Personally I don't think too far into when I draft any position other than kicker. It depends what is on the board and league scoring rules. If defense helps in your leagur it was a great pick Finyank. In the end ig you win games that is what matters.
So you think far into drafting a kicker? Personally, I don't think it makes sense to pass on Seattle in the 8th round to take my first bench guy or any other player who doesn't really offer a positional advantage.
Cobb got the TD reception, and I was glad to see him returning punts(return yds league) even more encouraging to me is that he is the best WR on the Packers. The 50+ P.I. Call is what got them that TD early. Not to mention Jordy looked like a scared b--ch.
My fantasy team that I have money on this week is: QB- Nick Foles - I love how people are sleeping on Nick Foles. He's got Jacksonville at home. I smell 4 tds. RB- Marshawn Lynch - I like read option RBs and it paid off Thursday. 25 fantasy points all by himself, lol. RB- LeSean McCoy - This was a given. I expect 25 or more fantasy points against Jacksonville at home. WR- Marques Colston - People are sleeping on this guy. The last 7-8 games of 2013, he was a top 3 fantasy league WR. WR- Jeremy Maclin - I got him for cheap because of his injuries last year. The #1 receiver on the #2 offense in the NFL. MONEY WR- Julian Edelman - I hated to do it, but this will be Brady's top target and my league is PPR. MONEY TE- Jordan Cameron - The Browns have no one else to throw it to. MONEY D- Chicago Bears - Playing against the Bills at home; EJ Manuel is garbage. K- Shayne Graham - New Orleans should put up a crazy amount of points against ATL's horrible defense.
Not really IMO Nelson has been productive over multiple seasons in his career, catches a lot of deep passes (yards) and is a lock for over 7 TD's every season. Even the last year he didn't break 1,000 yards he was on pace but missed it due to injuries and still scored 7 TD. Cobb is talented, has potential, but hasn't even posted a 1,000 yard season yet in his career. He may or may not end up better but Nelson is the best and safest play as of now. Aside from the TD (which is going to vary game to game, some days Nelson will score and some Cobb will, then both will and neither will on others) Nelson had the better game on Thursday. Plus Nelson also works the slot where he is generally unstoppable. Seattle did a very nice job Thursday though.
Cobb missed 80% of the season and was on pace for 1200 yards and 13tds. Jordy is a solid WR, but Cobb is an emerging star. It's his 3rd year in the league so he is evolving. He is a greater asset to the Packers already, Thursdays game was just another example of that.
Actually, Cobb's 5.5 games extrapolate to roughly 86 catches, 1190 yards, and 10.7 TDs. Meanwhile, Nelson totaled 85 catches, 1314 yards, and 8 TDs, and he did it with CRAP at QB for 7 games. If you wanna compare apples to apples then extrapolate Nelson's games w/ Rodgers. 94 balls, 1559 yds, 12.4 TD. Math amIright, who needs it. Lulz, what a clown statement. Jordy already IS a star, and.. and.. and.. he plays on the outside where the REAL receivers line up. Cobb is a very good player and a nice weapon to have but he's still a slot receiver who does 74% of his damage on passes of 10 yards or less, typically against linebackers, safeties, and nickel corners, and he has the inherent advantages of having the entire field to work with while often given a free release. If Cobb had to spend 90% of his time on the outside, he'd be playing in Jordy's shadow who catches 48% of his balls beyond 10 yards and has to do most of his damage with his back to the sideline and frequently against each team's best corner. Even with Cobb's positional advantage, Jordy still outperforms him. When Cobb is running 40 yards down field he might have a linebacker on him [see Seattle]; Jordy will never be afforded that advantage on the perimeter. Cobb did a nice job drawing the PI, but Jordy would've attacked that throw and probably come down with it like he routinely does. Jordy has 14 receptions of 40+ yards since 2011; Cobb has just 2... so which receiver do you think McCarthy & Rodgers look to most when they need a big play? Cobb's stats get boosted because he's afforded the advantage of space, space that Green Bay's offense and Jordy help provide him. On the boundary, Jordy doesn't have that same advantage. His stats get boosted because of the special s**t he does when the ball is in the air and after the catch with defenders draped on him. Cobb averages 2.2 first downs per game in his career [83 total]; Nelson averaged 3.3 during that time [148 total]... so what receiver do you think McCarthy & Rodgers turn to most when they need to move the chains? Cobb has 6 career redzone TDs; Nelson has 18 in that span.... so what receiver do you think McCarthy & Rodgers turns to most when they need a score? LMAO, step away from the paint chips dude. Firstly, Nelson was targeted 14 times Thursday, 5 more than Cobb. He caught 9 balls for 83 yards [both more than Cobb] against the best secondary in the league and was a few inches over the white line from tacking on a score, so just stop. Secondly, who the heck do you think trots off the field when Green Bay brings in a fullback or extra TE? It's not Nelson, genius. According to ESPN stats, Cobb has yet to catch a pass in 2 WR formations... in his career. So you tell me who McCarthy values the most. Thirdly, for fun let's look at each receiver's "ultimate" season by mixing and matching their best stats since 2011. Cobb: 80 catches, 954 yards, 8 TDs, 15.0 YPC, 12.1 yards/attempt, 45 first downs. Nelson: 85 catches, 1314 yards, 15 TDs, 18.6 YPC, 13.2 yards/attempt, 60 first downs. **Keep in mind Cobb's best YPC & YPA are skewed by only having 31 targets and 375 yards that year, with 61 yards coming on one reception. Yup but somehow Cobb has emerged as a greater asset than Nelson. <yawn>
I respectfully disagree. Cobb might be better with the ball in his hands in general, but I believe Nelson makes more big plays with the ball in the air than Cobb does after the catch or as a runner, and Nelson is no slouch with the ball in his hands either. Since 2011, 20+ yard receptions: Cobb 27; Nelson 49 40+ yard receptions: Cobb 2; Nelson 14 Touchdowns: Cobb 14; Nelson 30 YAC: Cobb 879; Nelson 1136 Longest reception each year ['11, '12, '13]: Cobb 61, 49, 38; Nelson 93, 73, 76 These catches/plays were nothing out of the ordinary for Jordy. Here's 2 in one game. Here's another 2 in one game. If you do wanna put Jordy in the slot, he can embarrass defenses and house it just like Cobb can. Generally speaking [not directed at you BK], Jordy's ability and skill set are twice as valuable to Rodgers and Green Bay's offense because he's a pure receiver. You can trust throwing to him in coverage. You can throw him a bad ball and it'll go down in the stats like it hit him in the numbers. You can throw it to him short and he'll run over corners. You can throw him slants and he can house it. Throw it downfield and he'll track it down or go over the defender. He can extend the sidelines like no one else in the game sans the slightly longer Calvin Johnson. The guy has hands of glue who can out-physical defenders and threaten every level of the field. You can't put Cobb on the outside and ask the same. There's just no f'ing way Rodgers could ever trust throwing to Cobb the way he does Jordy.
Another waste of site bandwidth I see, filled with insults and stats you like to skew in your direction. What were you busy doing Thu night? Doesn't sound like you watched any football, guess who's fearbof getting hit resulted in an interception early?? Yep that was Jordy who didn't run through his route and instead hesitated costing his team. And it wasnt the only time he did it either, he very well could've caught and ran for a big chunk had his passivness not crept up on him again. Meanwhile GB's biggest play of the game came on a long pass down field to Cobb who was blatantly interfered with or he would've scored, setting his team up inside the 15. Yes, it was one game Randall was more effective but I feel its a sign of things to come. Randalls return skills and receiving ability will make him a better asset to the Pack, where he lines up is about as relevant as 90% of your thesis. Sorry
Hey there Broncos fan here, don't worry I come in piece. Just wondering you you guys have any better info on who is likely to get more action either Moreno or Miller. Im trying to decide wether to start Moreno or Bernard Pierce. Pierce is slated to start and get the bulk of the carries in the Bal/Cin game but Cincy run d is tough. NE not so much. What do you guys thing
Id start Pierce. Moreno and Miller are going to steal a lot of carries for one another. If its PPR I'd consider starting Moreno however.
No unfortunately. All any of us Miami fans have to go on is opinion. Miller is obviously slated to start, but the wiser ones here would likely believe Moreno will get more work b/c he should see more action on passing downs and in the redzone. IMO he's more reliable than Miller, and Miami might feel this way too, hence dishing out $3.0 million for his services to begin with. I think the coaching staff perhaps feels an obligation to "start" Miller b/c he was here all camp and preseason [while Moreno was injured], but it'll only take a drive or two of Moreno outperforming Miller to get the bigger nod the rest of the way. I have Moreno & Pierce as well. I don't like the Pierce matchup, so I'm playing Miller instead. It's closer to a coin flip really.
