Not quite to this extent. I'm here for football. I can watch TV for drama. Actually, you are right. A small part of me thought we could keep this football related. I have been a victim of the media. I refuse to take a stance on anything with out all the facts. I should have known better. I pretty much believe very little I see or hear.
The damn kid was four years old. That's enough information to judge that AP is a sick bastard and get him indicted by a jury of his peers. So by your logic, if more four year olds were whupped to the point of bleeding, America would be awesome!!!!
wait wait wait the reports say this happened in MAY! get out of here with this bull**** story. Someone out there wants attention and with the negative light currently shining on the NFL what more appropriate timing.
So if someone finally finds the courage to report any crime months later they are **** out of luck? You for real? And did you look at these photos or do you just don't give a **** because I bet AP is on your fantasy team?
Yes because doctors are legally responsible for ANY evidence of child neglect immediately. If this was reported by doctor during the child's exam it wouldn't just now be leaking as a story. Also yes I did look at the picture, you would have a worse scratch falling from a bicycle.
It can take a while to get an indictment. That it happened in May has little or nothing to do with publicity. While I agree that parents should have a little leeway when disciplining their kids, I think it's possible to cross a line.
I'm an avid mountain biker and have taken plenty of spills and have never even come close to look like that kid's leg, what the **** is the matter with you? You're an idiot.
I've had spills come out MUCH worse than that...at that age. However... AP is a dooshbag for doing that to him. I got beat by switches and all sorts of other sh*t for many years, and it doesn't help a damn thing. This will do nothing but cause resentment and hate in the kid...well...speaking for myself anyway. That was the only "lesson" I got out of it.
I think things are sad overall when we gauge a child abuse case by the how much it could hurt or help our football team.
AP beat his kid so badly, a week later he had to be taken to the doctor because he still had bloody wounds... When questioned, the child told police officers he didn't want to talk about it because he was afraid AP would punch him in the face... Again. And yet, some people think more information is required? I hope this scumbag is suspended for the year, at minimum. And really, let's take this a step further. Anyone who thinks hitting a child in any manner is OK, is an idiot. Willfully or otherwise. It's 2014 ffs. It's not like we don't have decades worth of research proving how destructive violence against children can be. I know, I know... You were hit and turned out just fine... Accept for the part where you think violence is OK if someone behaves in a manner you don't approve of and pass that pearl of wisdom onto the next generation. But you'll still express outrage over Ray Rice beating his GF. Or Michael Vick serial killing dogs for amusement... smh. EDIT: Wasn't AP's other kid beaten to death by some creep? This whole story is sad and disgusting...
With Rhoddy whites comments and some of the raven player post game comments, and Adrain perterson and many others, I'm realizing that it all sums up to dumb athletes who were carried thru schooling based on their pro money making potential, they have no clue how to articulate themselves thru situations like this.. Very important to prioritize intellect and work ethic in this industry. Are you listening to some of these players talk, omgoodness, Clowney, Cordarelle Patterson, Adrian Peterson, cam newton, their all just plain dumb..
Wouldn't put it past someone 'not associated at all' with Bill Belichick for having brought this to the foreground at this particular moment.. especially late in the week with no time to sort it out before the game. Conspiracy theory? The truth is out there... and the truth is the Pats are desperate imo. Then again, someone mentioned it being an indictment that probably commenced a long time ago, so maybe it's dumb luck for the Pats.
I do not agree at all. Talking infront of a camera is different than talking with your friends. I know a lot of really stupid people who can talk well in front of a camera. It is a skill. I know a lot of smart people who sound like idiots in front of people. In fact, I know way more of those. With the child beatings, a lot of people grew up being hit like that. It is normal for them. Why would they think it is a big deal? The thing I have never understood about the NFL or NBA or MLB or any sport that is making billions, is why don't they have a full staff of consultants to work with their players. The players are their product. They should have speech coaches, psychologists, financial advisers, anger management experts, dieticians, nutritionists, etc... Anyone who can make their team better and can make sure their product is in the best mental health. How does it help the Vikings that AP is missing a game because he was taught it is O.K. to take a switch to his kid?
Interesting you say that. I remember reading an article about Pete Carroll last season before they won the SB. He talked about USC players coming back to campus and discussing how different the NFL environment was. How dog eat dog it was and how they weren't valued at people. Carroll felt that had a lot to do with USC players lack of success. He vowed that if he ever got into the NFL again, he would do things different. And he did. He put together a ton of programs focused on the well-being of his players, outside of the X's and O's. I don't know when the last time I saw a team w/the synergy of Seattle. They're all on the same page mentally. Attitude, philosophy, etc... They're one. I can't help but worry that the culture of sports, in terms of mental health and well-being, won't change until someone brings an uzi into a locker room and unloads on his teammates, coaches, staff, etc... That KC chief player murder/suicide in the KC parking lot should of been a massive red-flag for what could be lurking around the corner.
I didn't read the article. Still haven't yet. Was just looking at the picture and recalling days of old....
My issue is that a punishment should match the infraction as well as be understandable to the offender. I'm unsure that a child so small can make a correlation between the offense and beating. I don't have issues with a swift snack on the butt but this seems like excessive force.
Dat irony. I do agree with your general thesis. When you beat your kid to the point of hospitalization, that's your failure as a parent. Kids need to be disciplined but that is absurd. Remove the parenting context and how would you feel about a 28 year old world class athlete that can bench 400+ pounds beating on a kid in elementary school? It's gross. This week makes me regret being an NFL fan.
me not, i will never regret being an NFL Fan if out of 1696 players some break the line, lets face it how many dads hit their kids worldwide or even in the US and i bet some of them are athletes too, it just happens that AP is the best RB in tha game so he is in the spotlight, same goes for ray rice...there are wife beaters everywhere...its just a total exaggeration, i'm not supporting these actions, never will but lets not pretend this is something totally new to the world Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
When I was a kid, around 5-12, I used to get whipped with a switch as well, so badly that my guardians would make me wear a jacket and jeans to school to hide the deep scars/cuts, and warned me not to take off my jacket during school hours "or else". And while I forgive my grandparents/mother for all of that, that is definitely, 100% child abuse and could be traumatizing. I for one didn't get any traumatic symptoms because of it, but I think it takes a very mentally strong child (and that's what they are, children..) to not go through trauma because of it. Because of my childhood, when or if I ever have children, I would never discipline them that way. Hell I wouldn't even physically discipline a dog that way. Adrian Peterson went overboard, and he's going to get what's coming to him, deservingly. Which is probably going to be resolved at some court child support/custody case. By the way, how many kids does this guy have? Everyone knows of the two year old that recently was killed and his daughter, my god, wear a condom!
Amen. Lived many a year through the same, and when I had my kids, VOWED not to ever do the same, along with not being a drug-addict and alcoholic. Never beat 'em, and I'll be damned if they didn't turn out 1000% better than me at 18+. Big cases like this where celebrities are involved raise awareness to the problem...there's at least that.
In genuinely astounded that some people here are talking this incident down. The kid was 4 years old ffs. There's nothing that a 4 year old can do that deserves that sorry of admonishment.
Punching the wife is very bad, but hitting kids is discipline! How about both is very bad and Adrian Peterson shouldn't be left off the hook and get the Rice treatment.
Is it only football players who should lose their jobs or does this moral authority apply to everyone? Can we start kicking people off of welfare for being accused of hitting women and children too?
Yeah, it's worse than that though. A 4 year old isn't in elementary school yet. We're talking about a preschool kid. I am judging each and every one of the people defending those actions as child abusers, and I personally have no respect for them. Whipping a 4 year old like that?
Well, if people don't defend those actions, then they have to come to terms with the fact that their own childhood sucked and was probably filled with similar abuse that they're more comfortable calling "discipline" instead.
No, but a Doctor observing week old wounds that are still bleeding can. And certainly police should be highly suspicious when they question a 4 year old and he refuses to cooperate because he says he'll get punched in the face, again. I don't think the four year old's distinction between the two needs to be taken into consideration in light of the facts.
