This game featured many dropped passes of balls that were easily catchable...skews the hell out of the passer rating statistic (which is why it's garbage).

The absence of a relationship between the running game and Tannehill's performance goes well beyond just one game.

IDGAF what his 'rating' was tbh. Catch or hold onto 4ish catchable balls that high schoolers can regularly pull in, and he has a near record day.

Ya it would have been nice. I did some guesswork into the rating had those been caught, and he'd have been around 120+.

Last year the team rushed for over 100 yards in a game eight times, and in those games Tannehill's average YPA was 6.9. A YPA of 7 or more is typically necessary for consistent winning in the NFL, and you would like to believe that when your team rushes for at least 100 yards in a game, your YPA would be well above 7, not below it.

What was the YPA when they didn't get 100?

I believe there's a stat out there then says he's faced more players out of the box than any other, not sure how true it is, but I swear I remember hearing it.it would make sense considering we've had 0 threat of a run game since his arrival..

You can look at every stat you want bro......Ive watched every single one of his games....multiple times. And if your gonna try and sell that a great running game does not help Ryan Tannehill in any appreciable way....then your in a very very small group who actually believe that.

I know of only one other person who would throw stats like that out...and try and defend the most ridiculous claims.....

After watching that (awesome job Mainge) I'm surprised more people aren't talking about how good Tannehill's pocket management was.

Its amazing how good it looks when the line blocks. Maybe there's something to what some of us were saying that Tannehill's pocket awareness wasn't bad it was just how bad the line was.

Yeh....on a few occasions..I saw him step up into the pocket......others..he hung around some..then rolled out and threw it away...

I think it's partly that, and partly he's more conscious of it after last year, and working with Lazor.

Wow...after watching that there could have been a few touchdowns. There were alot of drops and a bit of bad passes but still. They need to keep those balls in their hands!

Tanny sometimes does this thing where he has a lot of quick pseudo-reads before he forces it to his trace target, not that it's extremely uncommon but it's frustrating to see. it'll be nice to see when he gets more comfortable with the system and the fluidity of his reads improves. I'm sure it's a byproduct of the o-line, but i'm Also waiting for when he decides to take the option and run himself and exploit the open sides of the field a few times a game, which he might have been saving specifically for game 2.

I'd like to see him get better at executing screen passes, it's been one of his small weaknesses, and it showed on the one to miller where miller got tackled by the ankle.

The point is he had a clear lane to the end zone if the ball was on target, everyone executed their job perfectly, except, Ryan, the Qb deception and ball placement on a screen is very important..below average there..

What exactly do you think he needs to improve on his screen plays? I would like to see quick WR screens and once Moreno gets going a fake and then a screen.

To be a good screen thrower you have to be able to change your arm slot a lot, you have to have flexibility in your arm motion, Ryan does not, his motion and release is very compact and close to his body..he can get the job done but it's not his forte, same thing with touch passes, not very good, the arm just doesn't extend far from his body..

Oh I know...I just hate watching Miller seemingly search for the ground...his balance sucks.

Agreed on his balance, he does look to be be better this year, more decisive, more willing to run with a lower lad level, he's got an ability to keep his speed while changing direction, but for some reason his feet get caught up a lot..idk.

No, it was his strength on display during the first TD, quick half roll right, threw a zinger on the out pattern...takin candy from a Baby.

I have a felling RT will drive me nuts this year too. He has a tendency to flactuate between terrible (uneasy, uncertain, inaccurate) and alright (just doing enough).

The great news is we've analyzed this game to death and we all know he has the ability to play better, we kicked their *** without our best game from our Qb, this is not wishing he will play better, we've seen him play better..so get that innaccurate short stuff out of the way while we win..

I think we all know he certainly can play better, on occasion. The question is whether his normal level of play (what can be expected of him on average) is ever going to be any better than it is right now or was last year.

Again, I agree that he ran the offense well. He made the correct reads. He went to the correct receivers except for the TD TO Wallace. That should have gone to Hartline for a very easy one.

Damn Dude, negative much ? If you actually watched his career arc you would see that he has played behind an almost historically bad O-line, with a pitiful running game, and an OC that was as imaginative as Wilford Brimley before he takes his morning ****.

He did not play a great game. He did not play a terrible game. He was OK, in a new offense, in the home opener. If you think that is 17's "normal" game, then we will have to agree to disagree.

Tannehill has one hell of an arm. He looks much improved from last year. He's making plays with his feet this year moving around the pocket. Love it.

Four drops, some poorly placed balls including the interception, and some good decisions to throw away the ball. The rating was misleading.

I expect a good amount of screens and quick passes. I was watching the game from last year and it seemed that we never had an outlet for tannehill. Not the case this year
