Not at all ready to throw in the towel.

Common theme with Philbin at the helm has been expect the unexpected! So who knows what happens for the rest of the year or next week even.

That said, I am ready to throw in the towel on your boy Landry returning punts! Dude is shaky... I have no confidence in his punt returning instincts or his hands for that matter.

He certainly didn't cost us this game, it was brutal on all sides of the ball. But he did show he has the potential to cost us games in the future.

I know what "throwing in the towel" means, I meant I don't know how it applies to us fans on a message board. What exactly would constitute us "throwing in the towel"?

Does adjusting your expectations for the team downward constitute "throwing in the towel"?

We are just spectators, so I don't think the analogy really applies.

Fact is, Tannehill is a better quarterback when he has a running back worth a damn... Moreno made him look good, let's hope we didn't lose him for season... We need to draft an Eddie Lacy type next season and bring Moreno back..

    As a starter or backup?

As a backup, no, he doesn't suck. He's not a starter though, so what does it matter?

Nope not at all. Youve been consistent from the start where you penciled us at. Throwing in the towel is giving up. You can predict we will be 7/9..but you still root for better. Giving up is showing up here on the forum to do nothing but tell everyone how bad it is.

I'm not "throwing in the towel", but I am adjusting my expectations to the level that I think we can perform. I expect 7 or 8 wins at this point.

I think we have the talent to get there and even make the playoffs, but I just don't trust the coaching. To get the ball at your 20 with 2:30 left and drive it to the 40 while taking 0 timeouts, trying to kill the clock when you have the ball and are down.... that just screams lack of confidence in your team. I think it would have made 0 impact on the whooping we got the rest of the game, but when even your coaching staff think the best play is to run the clock rather than trying to get points, you know you're in trouble. That, to me, is Cam "fail forward fast" Cameron level coaching to me. No spine, no heart. Unsurprisingly, the team played up to the coach's expectations.

Yep...that decision told me a lot about the HC...a lot that I didn't expect.

We also caught Buffalo at for the biggest home opener in the history of that franchise. That team fed off the fans..and played damn hard.

Yeh but..think about it. We hadnt done anything all half. If we turn the ball over we risk being down by 16 going into half. I would have used my TOs and tried to score..but his reasoning was sound.

Again, just like the Ireland guys, are you going to keep defending him till he's gone just because "he's our guy" ? I don't understand that kind of mentality.....

If you couldn't see that Tannehill has had two horrible starts so far, and that he was not the main reason we lost the game today and that we won DESPITE Tannehill last week, you are just not even trying to look at reality.

Tannehill was the # 19 QB last week, and I can't believe that improved with today's performance. How many games will it take to convince you ? He's 22-30 as a starter. So if they go 6-10 or 7-9 this year, & he is the 19th or worse QB this year statistically, will it convince you ?

I get the feeling that many on here expected the Dolphins to be a playoff team this year and today merely showed how far this team is from being a legitimate playoff team.

Like you, I expected this team to be mediocre again this season. So them being 1-1 after the first two weeks meets my expectations.

I think seeing that Tannhill just might not be the long term answer for the Dolphins is far more depressing for most Dolphin fans than the overall play of the team today.

    I'm not there yet.

Im not going to defend the team and I'm nearly more upset with the defense than the offense. The amount of big plays we continue to give up to that offense is insane

But...we conceded a TD on a kickoff. It's terrible, but rare. Also, the refs gave a shockingly quick approval of the fumbling TD. There was a solid case that the ball was fumbled into the pylon, out of the endzone and would instead have been a touchback for Miami instead of 7 for Buffalo

This was a tough situation for any team to go into but I'm pretty disappointed with just HOW poorly the Dolphins fared. It would be nice to see some more mental toughness. Mike Wallace made some plays but outside of that it seemed the situation was too big for much of the team.

Seriously, let's be adults here. What the hell does it matter if any fan gives up on the team or loses hope?
And btw, it's LOSES. One "o" not two.
Anyway, what does it matter? The team will be just as good as it is and no more, no matter how any of us feel.

The only time he's been a starter for any length of time, 2011, he played better than Tannehill has yet to play in his career. Tannehill has all kinds of physical talent, but so far he is just the hope of better things to come, and nowhere near as good as some of his supporters think he is.

Critics come after QBs, we all know that and that's fine. But the criticism has to be grounded in reality at least a little bit. When you have barely the time to drop back and make a read before you're forced to throw away or face a sack, what good can anyone do with that? Shotgun doesn't even mitigate this awful OL, 4 & 1 from the gun and we're still pressured from the snap? Come on...

I'd hate to see any QB in Ryan's shoes getting flak for things that i'm sure he's pretty fed up with himself. You saw his frustrations on the delay of game penalty, that's how he feels about his front 5 I imagine.

They didn't give Michelangelo magic markers and a step ladder when he was asked to do the Sistine Chapel.

I am. Had us predicted at 6-10. Thought the opening Pats win may change things....didn't. Had us at 0-2 now so maybe we'll be 7-9.

Its always a kick to see all the tomato cans, tossed about the canvas, awaiting the 10 count, after the season's first body shot to the solar plexus.

Unless I'm mistaken, this was only Tannehill's second time, to ever step out onto any competitive field of play, to execute an offensive system, different from the fuzzy safety blanket he was breast fed on in college.

I'll grant him a small transition period to ween himself onto Lazor's program.

I'm not so sure about that. The Dolphin team today sure looked a lot like that Dolphin team in week 16 last season. 8-8 is about the very best I see this team doing in 2014.

no, im not throwing in the towel but this loss was a huge kick in the gut, i could have handled losing a close game where the dolphins were competitive.

I think his point was THIS season. The team could very likely look much different by Week 17, 2014.

So you are ready to blame the OL again for the sorry play of Tannehill today.

In year one, it was that Tannehill was inexperienced at QB and he had terrible WR's to throw the ball to.

In year two, he had a terrible OL in front of him.

Now in year three, he has to learn a new offense and the OL is still awful.

Tannehill could be the QB for the ten years here and people would still find other excuses to blame for him being nothing but a very mediocre QB.

I accept that there are certainly several areas of concern on this team. Unfortunately the major concern is at the QB position and the more of Tannehill I see as a starting QB in the NFL, the more I am convinced he just doesn't have what it takes to be anything more than a very average to below average starting QB. I don't ever see him being able to lead an NFL team to the playoffs.

I'm throwing in the towel because the team overall doesn't have the talent to play at a highly competitive level with an average QB, and that's what it has.

Basically, what Tannehill looks like to me so far is an athletic version of Chad Henne.

I understood what he meant. All I was pointing out is this team doesn't appear to be any different than last years team or any of the teams from the past five years for that matter.

They still seem to be the same old mediocre team that can play well one week and stink the place up the next.

No passion from this team today...they were flat just like weeks 16 and 17 last year...almost mirror image...especially once Knowshon went down.

Tannehill is hurting in the confidence department...bad. He needs to pull his sh*t together, nut up, and start playing like he might lose his job. FIRE IT UP SON....DAMN!

Edit: Wallace played with fire...was pleasantly surprised to see that.

An athletic version of Chad Henne, whose athleticism is irrelevant because he rarely uses it.

I agree with that and we all know how things worked out with Henne.

How do you feel about the Dolphins doing whatever is necessary to try and get Mariota in the 2015 draft? They will probably win too many games to have a early pick in the draft, but it might be time they trade some of their future high draft picks in an effort to move up and get Mariota. I think he will probably be the best QB in the draft and that includes Winston, even if he declares for the draft next year.

I don't understand the T'Hill blame today. He missed a long ball to Wallace and was off target on a few throws, But I didn't see Manuel do better. Sattelle screwed up T'Hills game today and the crowd screwed Sattele. Tannehill didn't set his feet a lot today, and that affected his accuracy. That's what happens when you play the best DL in football. Denver would have had a tough time with Buffalo today, but would have outscored them if their Special Teams didnt give up 15 pts.
