He gets the benefit of the doubt from me, I've seen enough good decisions to trust his judgement at this point. I can't say if it was a good or bad decision to run the clock but its easy to play devils advocate. If anything, Philbin has taken much more criticism for being too aggressive than for being too passive. He's not too anything. Occasionally he's takes the passive decision but generally he takes the aggressive decision.

People need to realize that most decisions are gray and its impossible to know whats right or wrong. Belichick still doesn't get any benefit of the doubt from a lot of fans, its absolutely ridiculous. He makes one coin flip decision that doesn't go his way and the fans go off on him. Like the decision to go for it on the fourth down vs the Colts. At the end of the day that was a coin flip for the game. In fact, mathematicians worked out that he made the mathematically correct decision, even if it was just a 52/48 deal.

The bottom line though is if Tannehill doesn't start playing better and his passer rating remains at 80 or below on the season we're not winning more than 8 games, so it may all be moot. The Dolphins are 12-1 when the QB plays well. If Tannehill and Wilson traded places our team would be the one with the 22-10 record and Seahawk fans would be the ones saying "tell me what Pete Carroll does well?" I would bet dollars to nickels on that.

    And another thing:

I've seen that situation come up many times where an aggressive coach will actually use his timeouts to get the ball back and go for the jugular. I've actually seen 3 separate possessions in that amount of time before between two aggressive coaches. Yes we left the half with our tails between our legs but Marrone deserves just as much criticism for not taking advantage of the situation and going for the knockout blow.

As much as I hope RT does well, if I had been picking for the Dolphins in 2012, I'd have not drafted him 8th. I'd have taken Luke Kuechly, and came back and taken either Cousins, Foles, or Wilson later.

Ryan Tannehill isn't very good at this point in his career, but Joe Philbin should shoulder some of the responsibility for that. The coaching staff has Tannehill for tens of hours every week, and hundreds of hours during the offseason. One of the most fundamental aspects of a coaches job is to improve his players.

Maybe. Or maybe Tannehill would be even worse with a different coach. Its impossible to say.

I was a fan of Cousins coming into that draft. I remember I made a thread about him. Holy s--t Mr C. What a freakin' better plan that would that have been, huh? Two of our weakest positions to boot. Damn!!!!

Looking back now...yes Kuechly would have been our Zach Thomas 2.0 but was it that obvious back on draft day 2012? Not so sure....

We were desperate for a QB though. Wilson/Foles over Tannehill makes sense in hindsight but we don't know how much of those guy's success comes from their coaching, team chemistry and so on. Those two can lean on Lynch and McCoy...Tannehill got Moreno for 1 game and a snap.

Tanne was far from a typical top 10 prospect. He only had 19 college starts and not a mind blowing record in college either. Anyone with any common fooiball sense, who watched Wilson in college, should know the kid was very special. There were no doubts in my mind about his abilities. Go back and watch some footage. Foles I had as a solid 4th round plus guy, but someone who could maybe make a sufficient starter down the road. I think it's safe to say that he has exceeded everyone's expectations. Tanne's college coach was our new OC, so I think that may have helped push the decision along. I loved Mr C's hypothetical then and the thought of it kills me now.

No one said any of those things. I think Philbin will eventually get fired and we will be starting over, yesterday's game brought some of his short comings to the front again. I think we were exposed on Sunday, hopefully they turn things around but I do think Philbin has shown that he doesn't have what it takes, and not because of 2 mins in one half. He's an alright coach but I'd be shocked if he leads us to a winning record this year.

I thought the QB led the W/L?

    It's the HC?

Not directed at you...it's just that the argument seems to change based on who people are pissed off at during that particular post-loss week.

I agree though...he showed some weaknesses IMHO. But I'm sticking with my 10-6 prediction. Gotta give 'em more time to see how this thing goes. While there has been bad play and questionable coaching, they've also had to deal with some serious injury issues, green players (read rookies), and suspensions. 1-1 at this point isn't too bad, considering.

MAN why did Knowshon brace himself with his left arm! I know I know...it's reactive...just such a big damn hit to what the team had cooking.

Yeah, some people did, though they may have just been overreacting due to frustration and immaturity. I read some posts that said things like if the poster were Ross, he'd have fired Philbin at half time. May have been one or two saying they'd have fired him right after the game no matter what.

I watched several of his games at TAMU, and saw very little that said this guy should be a top 10 draft pick. if anything at all.

I can't believe we drive down the field at the end of the first half, and then just let the clock run down without using our timeout until there is only enough time to kick a field goal. Unbelievable.

If we're talking about the original thread topic and bumping it then I think Week 3 Joe Philbin showed exactly what a worthless pu--y Week 2 Joe Philbin really was.

Even though the passing offense had generated an incredibly pathetic 3.1 yards per attempt in the 1st half, with 1:30 remaining in the game on his own 22 yard line Joe Philbin grew a pair and actually called pass plays to try and score. The Dolphins got all the way to the Chiefs 4 yard line and probably could have gotten the touchdown if Philbin and Tannehill had managed the clock just a little bit better.

Basically Philbin proved just how gutless he really was in Week 2.

Afraid to say I agree with you. The sight of stoic Philbin on the sidelines makes my blood boil...along with all too many FLAT performances. Sadly, the most exciting news for this team is new GM amd HC searches. With the thought of changing QB to Moore, Philbin might as well inform his staff to start looking for new jobs at the end of the season.

I don't care about his looks.

I am sick of him flubbing up conferences. I am sick the team coming out flat. I am sick of the team playing so poorly. When has the team played well under him? I am sick of his weird coaching decisions that flat out don't work. I am sick of other teams finding a hole, and then Miami never being able to do something about it during the game.

I was really in his corner when he was hired. I wanted to give him time to put his stamp on this team. Has not happened. Those last two unholy, totally flat performances, at the end of last season was the last straw for me. Does he even want to be the Head Coach....looks like he would rather be anywhere else.
We have a long way this season to change things, only 3 games in the books. But by the look of his PC yesterday, it seems he has no definitive answer to fix things. His M.O since he took the job.

Under Philbin, forget about the fact they haven't finished with a winning record. They haven't even finished with a winning record inside the AFC East. Even with the 3-win Jets coming to town...they allow the Jets to get their most sacks against Miami in FRANCHISE HISTORY. And Geno Smith turns into Dan Marino, having the best passer rating of any NFL QB in 2014 I think (right or wrong? I thought I read he had the only perfect passer rating of the NFL season today)...

So where are the positives for 2015??? Its as if they're once again, like with Sparano and Wannstedt, prolonging the inevitable. What are the odds we're all sitting here next year pondering the next Dolphins Coach? People said "Well look at the Cowboys after Garrett went 8-8 for 3 seasons". Again, when does it ever work out well for Miami? 15 years without a playoff win, 23 years without an AFC Championship game appearance. Same old, same old.

This is why this guy will always be a loser. (Philbin) and now he is making his players losers too. No way philbin calls that fake punt that Rex did that seals the game for NY. I really cannot get over the fact that Ross kept philbin after that meaningless crappy win vs Minn.

You're probably right. I mean, Joe Philbin is probably average at best, but it's hard to look in his direction after the defense makes history like they did today.

Did the Pins really deserve to be 9-7 with us looking at all the teams that they are better than rather than what they really are.
