http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=650_1410926763 Should be better this time. As an aside, I've been hosting on Live Leak because Youtube crushed me with all kinds of Copyright claims last season. I'm hoping Live Leak cares way less about all that considering all of the crazy **** they do allow. If you're not familiar with them, I really suggest you just watch the video and not go exploring around the rest of the website. I've already gotten several comments from people upset that I'm interrupting their Mexican Cartel beheading videos with Dolphins highlights. Personally I think this game was way more gruesome than any beheading videos out there, but whatever.
I watched the video half way into the 4th quarter. I wasn't able to watch this game and my impression based on watching gamecast and reading the commentary vs what my eyes saw in this video. Some thoughts: 1) Buffalo's defense won this matchup in every phase. They were swarming everywhere. 2) The pocket collapsed frequently and he wasn't able to set his feet properly but also should have used his feet to create opportunities. He also made some nice plays in awkward positions. 3) I'm not sure I'm willing to pin this loss on RTH. I see several OL getting beat frequently, playmakers not making plays and several dropped balls. RTH certainly had his share of mistakes.
Notice that on every sack in the first half, there was a receiver open in the flat. The first half post pattern to Wallace is a TD if he's led downfield. The middle screen to Lamar Miller in the second half was a touchdown if the ball is lofted a bit more. The amount of offense left out there is incredible. Lazor and company have to be worried.
Good eye Sir. I believe the pass that went over Gibson's head would have gone for a score or a first and goal inside the 5 too. You can see 20 and 53 looking like "whew we just got lucky!". The plays are there, gotta have better execution...
First sack, running back is open...however, as he is coming open, Tannehill is being swarmed by defenders...not to mention, even IF Tanne gets the ball to him, there is a defender coming up to hit him, and we all know Miller isn't making anyone miss. Even with a completion there, it's a 5-7 yard loss to Miller. Second sack...FOUR MAN RUSH, Tannehill under massive pressure from up the middle. Ridiculous. Sure, the back is open in the flats for a small gain, but the line was horrendous there. The third sack is on third and 25. REALLY?? You're complaining that Tannehill didn't throw a 5 yard pass on 3rd and 25?? Come on.
I am so sick of the whining on here honestly. I feel better about the game after watching this. Sure, he left some plays out there, but his receivers were just as guilty of that. Hind-sight is always 20/20. New offense, new line, give them time! I wish more people on here could be fans, rather than arm-chair coaches. The defense was much worse than the O out there...
Thx for posting. Glad to see some fans saw what I saw that gm. An oline that was almost criminally negligent in its blocking. This wasn't the gm to judge tannehill or even the running backs for that matter
Go check out the article on PFF as to why they have him rated #3 so far. They make some good points many of us fail to consider in our emotional response to his performance.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/09/17/analysis-notebook-week-2-3/ Heres the article in question. I didnt realize that throw to Wallace in the back of the endzone was 50 yards through the air..did anyone else?
I gotta say, watching his passing plays singled out like that he didn't look bad at all. He had some mistakes, that poor pass to Gibson near the endzone chief among them, but he was not bad at all, at least IMO. What catches my attention is the Buffalo swarming defense dominating everywhere. If they were not causing mayhem in the backfield, they were disrupting at the line or at the point of the catch. They were everywhere.
No, I didn't, that's actually really impressive given the ball placement. If PFF is seeing a good QB, they must know at least a thing or two about grading players, seeing as how they do it for a living. One thing I see in fans grading tannehill, is the expectation that the elite QB's never miss a throw or take a sack - as if we never watch other QB's play. It's as if he's being held to some unattainable standard. That's not to say that i'm happy with his play so far, but it's not been the dumpster fire that many would have you believe.
This is what I do not understand. This is suppose to be a fans site of which we have some very knowledgeable posters, we finally have a quarterback with some potential and we along with the media are hell bent on destroying his confidence just as we did with Henne. RT is light years ahead of Henne, he as well as his receivers are in a new system, have a completely new offensive line, totally new playbook etc. Yet we have supposedly knowledgeable posters saying he should be traded, he will never make it blah, blah, blah,... He would be a superstar in the Jets/Buffalo offence is that what we want? Be careful what you wish for!! Like it or not he is our best hope and I for one am encouraged by what I am seeing and am of the view to remain positive. I do however have major concerns with Philbin and our new OC. Playcalling is suspect and not utilizing RT's talent.
If Tannehill played like Luck did at the end of the MNF game, there would be a petition from emotional Dolfans asking for Moore to take not only the starting job, but the rights to their first born child as well. People need to calm the Eff down. Honestly, I think this is the coaching staffs fault for not having RT and the offense play more in the preseason. Need to gel with this new timing offense.
With the new CBA limiting practice, I'm surprised starters don't play more. You would think they would want to work out any kinks prior to week 1. I understand teams are concerned about injuries in "meaningless" games, but there is no better experience than game experience. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/09/17/analysis-notebook-week-2-3/ Link to Tannehill article. I'm still not sold on Tannehill/Miami's offense/Bill Lazor. Especially with Moreno injured. Miller and Thomas are a scary duo and it isn't because they're good. Hopefully Miami finds some kind of rhythm against two scrub teams. The early bye week could work out in our favor in that regard too.
It would be amazing if we could sometime get a every drop video of another QB to compare Tannehill to. I think alot of the problem .is when you study something so closely as most do of Tannehill..you see every flaw like its highlighted. Everyone says his throws are off target..but are they any more off target then any other qb in the league? You cant look at Tannehill in a void... How many Fng Qbs could put the ball running where Tannehill did in the air 50 yards ...
Clark..for a reference point..what was Phillys record the first six games of the season last year? What were their offensive numbers like then..and then at the end of the season. HUGE difference. People have to realize theres a learning curve to this offense...to ignore there is ..is just being stubborn. The reality is..and I think its been proved out ..that Tannehill has been playing ok football. Not great.. not good..but hes faced two very good defenses.
He's inconsistent. the thing that stands out for me is, how he varies play speed with expectations of pressure. He started the game comfortable. One of the first throws to RB in the flat on the rollout was late, he was taking it easy, he was very comfortable. Then, as the passing plays increased, the D charged the OL, he got pressured. He picked up the speed, the urgency, then he got inaccurate, decisions were poor. Second half, he started better and then unraveled again. He does not have the rhythm down. The main reason is he is asked to throw a lot. When that happens pressure varies from play to play, from series to series. Just as he gets into the groove, the pressure messes it up. His number of throws must be managed so that the D can be kept off, and that he can establish the right play speed.
3-3. They scored 30 points 4 out of their first 6 games however. IIRC, it was their defense that was bad initially. Their offense performance didn't really improve as the season progressed.
Well...we have scored more then 30 points in one of our two games.... What would you predict for total points in each of the next two games?
Amen. I am encouraged about Tannehill when I watch this video. I love that I always see him on his toes. Even when he cannot get his feet set because the pocket is a mess, he still is on his toes. It looks better than last year. Further, the receivers are really letting him down. There are bad routes that sabotage play design. The drops are incredibly bad. The receivers are not getting open. The offense is having its share of problems executing the offense.
I really like Tannehill's decision-making. I think it is improving rapidly. I do not like his execution. He needs to settle down and make better throws. I know it is his 34th pro start, but I want to give him a few more games in this offense before I give up on the guy. I feel like he's showing enough improvement in certain areas of his game that I can hope that the renewed emphasis on proper footwork and experience with the timing of the offense will improve his ball placement. Also, while I would say that some of his throws have clearly just been bad, how much of the ball placement is shared responsibility with the receivers? I can't absolve the QB of blame, he certainly deserves some; but I think there is definite reason for optimism right now and I don't care who ridicules me for it.
If RT can get the ball out to Miller or even throw it away it helps. Field position was heavily in Buffalo's favor to begin with, taking unnecessary losses only made it worse.
Sure, Sinth, field position was a big deal. However, my point, that you clearly didn't get, was that of the three sacks in the first half, he did NOT really have Miller open in the flats every time...or if he did, only one time was it realistic for him to get it out to him. I'm not saying Tannehill doesn't have blame, just saying, that when laying blame, I'm currently laying more blame on the oline for those sacks.
And Foles got his first start game 6. Vick was 2-4 as a starter and Foles was 8-2. In the same offense, and really an offense that should play to Vick's strengths. According to the stats Foles had a pretty horrible game in his second start which is probably why Vick got the start game 8 who also had a horrible game himself. Those two back to back games the Eagles combined for 10 points. Don't know if Vick got hurt again or not but Foles started every game after that and caught fire. So we'll see. KC has the 32nd ranked defense right now according to DVOA, and we made our hay against bad defenses last season with a 7-1 record. Our only loss against a "bad" defense came against NE in Foxborough.
From the article: "Tannehill has suffered from seven dropped passes already this season (only Joe Flacco has experienced more). He has lost 113 yards of passes due to drops (at a minimum – that only counts the yards in the air the ball traveled, not the potential yards after the catch the receiver lost by dropping the ball). That is more than any other passer in the league, including Flacco. If you add those plays into his official stats his passer rating jumps twenty points into the 90s. Sure, you could do that for every quarterback, but as we have already pointed out, Tannehill has suffered more than most from his receivers not helping him out." Pretty telling.
Meh. The stats don't lie. If you keep throwing to a guy that can't catch then that's on you, either work it out or throw it to somebody else. And if you want to start playing that game last season he also led the league in dropped INTs.
Funny thing tho, Roy...those dropped passes were not just from one guy.... And I might add that stats DO sometimes not tell the whole or the right story....
Feel a lot better after watching the video. Definitely had a better day overall than I thought. The passes to Wallace and Gibson were really bad though.
The problem is that those are high-impact plays that are missed, as was the middle screen to Miller that should've been lofted higher. Opportunities like those are rare, and if you don't capitalize on them, you miss out on your opportunity to win the game or remain competitive in it. Not all plays are created equal.
True, I don't think the screen was so terrible actually. However sometimes those plays will be missed. He made enough plays for me to be encouraged even if some were left on the field.
I don't agree about the pass to Miller. That hit him right in the chest. That's all on him. Also semantics but it's not a screen, just a little seam route from the backfield. Unless we're not talking about the same play.
I'm talking about the middle screen in the second half that Manny Lawson tipped. Notice the open field and the blocking out in front. People complain about the offensive line, but when the offensive coordinator makes a call that exploits the defensive pressure, and it's lined up to produce a touchdown, the players have to capitalize on it. You can't complain about the offensive line, and then when the OC dials up a play that enables the QB to exploit that pressure and he blows it, not blame the QB. The guy has to have some accountability.
When the offensive line is sucking all game, it creates a scenario where the QB almost has no room for error on the few times they do their job, is what you're saying. So, you want to blame Tannehill HEAVILY when he messes up in the rare times that the OL blocks, but kind of ignore the 90% of the game where they were terrible. I'm sorry, but you're asking the QB to pay on the razor's edge, and that is not fair. It only sucks so much when he misses on that because he has so few opportunities like that. If the OL did their job better, perhaps we'd see Tannehill connecting on a lot of those plays. Some of you have a seriously weird viewpoint on this subject.
It has been said; a good pass to a bad player is still a bad pass. Why? Because he won't do anything with it. For me, to get this offense moving, we need to get the ball to Hartline more frequently than we currently are. He helps move the chains and he needs to have a few more opportunities for this offense to work IMHO. He's been Tanehill's security blanket until now; we need to get that going again.
I was not impressed with the game plan or Lazor's adjustments. I believe he does deserve a significant amount of blame for this performance. I am glad he was honest about the short coming. I am still very excited to have him as the OC, but I believe he was correct in his self evaluation
