Tannehill blames footwork for current inaccuracy issues

Reading that....when Philbin talks about the recievers routes..you can see how important BOTH parts are when running this offense. If Ryan is timing his throw at the end of his drop....then he is throwing it expecting the WR to run the correct route as well. He doesnt have time to adjust .

In reading about drop-backs, and not being in a hurry, how much effect do you think that having an oline that struggles to block 4 men would affect Tannehill's drops? Does anyone think that perhaps he's trying to get back as fast as possible, so as to have just a bare minimum of time to observe the field and make a throw before the defense gets to him? Again, I feel like many of his issues keep coming back to not having an offensive line that is worth a damn. In the rare instances that he gets decent blocking and has time to throw, his receivers fail to help him by dropping passes that hit them in the hands.

That's because everyone else had known it for months, and there you were posting it like it was some new startling revelation.

I gotta think there are many different variables. It takes a host of things going right for a play to work..it only takes onr mistake to mess it up.

There is too much general inconsistency with the team. Too many players cycle hot and cold. Very few appear to perform well for the whole of a game, never mind the whole of season. It's difficult to win when sloppy play is afflicting half the line up. With that being said I think we play out the season with RT. There isn't another option, Moore blah blah blah whatever. He's not the future, no matter how much some might wish. It's up to Ryan to make himself the future. Get it sorted dude.

I think if you did relevant research on the issue, you'd find that the Dolphins' offensive line isn't blocking for the pass any worse than that of the average team in the NFL.

Right, but we have a head coach who may believe he needs better quarterback play this year to save his job.

This year or last year? Or both?

Certainly this year, but even last year the evidence on that was mixed.

Evidence we had league average pass blocking last year?

There was some evidence that suggested the pass blocking last year was significantly worse than average, and some that suggested it wasn't.

Asking for the evidence it was league average last year.

What evidence is there that it wasn't? Well below average that is?

Tannehill was pressured on 33.6% of his dropbacks, for example, which ranked him 16th in the league (15 QBs were pressured more often). Also, the Dolphins' line's pass blocking efficiency rating (a PFF statistic) was 19th in the league (13 offensive lines were worse).

He's just not good, plain and simple. He holds the ball too long, he's not accurate, he doesn't move around enough for an athletic guy. Just sick of watching this, I had to turn it off today. It's year three and it's the same problems as year one imo, there hasn't been enough progress to justify hitching the wagon to him going forward. Hickey has an out to get rid of him after this year since Tannehill's not one of his guys, hopefully he cuts the cord. I hope I have to come in here and eat crow at the end of the year but I don't see it happening.

It's easy to blame the QB when things are going bad. I agree with other posters that this entire offense is so erratic with it's performance that it struggles consistently. We get big plays in chunks and then the drive stalls.

The blame needs to go around to everyone. Our OL had a bad game today in pass pro. Our WR's continue to struggle getting open on blitzes and drop too many balls. RTH, well, he just doesn't seem to have it. The problem with him is he's not horrible but I certainly haven't seen anything out of him in 27 games that leads me to believe he is a franchise QB. Part of me wonders if be baby'd into the NFL by running his college system covered some glaring holes in his game.

Ultimately, this all falls down to Philbin. I think you have to let him play out the season but this is a must win season. Anything less than 10 wins and he needs to go.

It would be ridiculous to get rid of Tannehill regardless of how bad he plays this year. A young quarterback who has shown promise regressing under a bad coaching staff is not grounds for cutting the cord. That's not how talent development works or should work. Find competition if you aren't sure, but whoever inherits this after Philbin should be the one making any calls about him.
